Jesus HN. From racisim, to flame baiting vegans and a collective holier than thou, fuck the plebs aire, I am about finished.

Your moderation used to keep up, but its just reddit in here now, with slightly better submissions, and a few decent commenters that still occasionally show up to the dump when they see something shiny (their name).

I applaud YCs recent attempts at media, to help raise the bar here on news, but its an uphill battle without ousting the trolls.

Goodnight sweet prince and all that. I may still read you on the shitter, but I feel contributing is more trouble than its worth now. I suspect others may feel the same, but I can obviously only speak for myself.

damnfine··on ‘Uncontacted’ Amazon Tribe Members Are Reported Killed in Brazil
Well, I didn't expect blatant racisim in HN comments, but there it is. Based on ignorance no less. Can we ban people like this? /serious

I am all for free speech, but excusing murder based on race is where I may have to draw the fucking line. Feel free to post this on a board relevant to your hopefuly unique interests.

damnfine··on Lagos megachurches building their own cities
To some. There are also quite a few traveling americian yuppies that trade aid for 'souls', for the sole purpose of bragging about it back home. Its an unfortunate mix.
damnfine··on People Don’t Actually Want Equality, They Want Fairness
There most definately are, although not extremely common. I recall reading a HAYES (pro-fat) article calling for beauty equalization or some rediculious thing. Sure its not common, but to dismiss any extreme you arent aware of does not help the conversation. The amount of impact is highly variable, but one must assume there is some, as many of these blogs have thousands of followers.
damnfine··on The Premium Mediocre Life of Maya Millenial
And you almost always make your actual life objectively worse in the process. I dated a media junkie, never any fun, always posing, aranging dishes, making 'moments' instead of actual enjoiable memories. She was an amazing person, but the near OCD levels of trying to make life look perfect to the outside just didnt work for me. The most amazing moments in her life, never documented, only a ghost shell online to paint a false memory.
damnfine··on Three Equifax Managers Sold Stock Before Cyber Hack Was Revealed
This was the reaction I got from most non techies. Makes my heart sad.
damnfine··on Three Equifax Managers Sold Stock Before Cyber Hack Was Revealed
If you are willing to gamble real money on that assertion, its there for the taking.
damnfine··on What does an innocent man have to do to go free? Plead guilty
But very few go to trial because the courts cannot afford to try that many cases. So, like most social issues, where does the money come from?

Edit: I want to be clear. I agree with your point, but observing the obvious roadblock to implementation.

damnfine··on 3D Coke Sign in Times Square [video]
If one dimension is limited compared to others, it makes sense to call it psudeo 3d, because all planes are not fully realized. But it is still clearly invoking a 3rd dimension, maybe a 4th if you consider movement in time.

I still call it just shy of '3D'.

damnfine··on The Memories of Plants
All my meat is raised on open pasture locally, fed only on wild grasses. I specifically said factory farms are a clear problem. Thanks for talking past me and ignoring my point. This is what makes conversing wih you people get on my nerves. Show some intellectual respect and get some in retuen.
damnfine··on Attacked by Rotten Tomatoes
I can't agree more. I grew up next to a theater and it was the thing to do. The last decent movie experince I can recall was the film print showing of the hateful eight. I didnt even like the movie itself a whole lot, but the quality, and experince were amazing. I would love to have a movie to get excited about. It all just seems like such low effort drivel now.
damnfine··on Attacked by Rotten Tomatoes
That argument just lowers the bar. It can be a shallow movie and also not insult my intelligence and cram product placements into every other shot. Bad filmmaking is bad. Do not make excuses for it.
damnfine··on Cybersecurity Incident Involving Consumer Information
If you live/lived in the usa, and have ever had credit here, this affects you.
damnfine··on Cybersecurity Incident Involving Consumer Information
This so much. The stream of corporations passing the buck into a black hole of irresponsibility needs to end now. If people arent held responsible, they will continue to make these failings without pause. I hope everyone is writing their legislators and congresspeople right now. They listen more than even my disillusioned self thought. The just might have bigger incentives to act otherwise. But if they dont know, they cant even choose to be corrupt or not, they are ignorant by proxy. Communicate to your leaders, and remember their response when you vote.
damnfine··on Cybersecurity Incident Involving Consumer Information
But you still pay the fees from the banks failings, so it really does hurt everyone even when the bank eats it.
damnfine··on How Taser inserts itself into investigations involving its own weapons
Murdering an 18 year old kid for painting a wall is not accountability.
damnfine··on How Taser inserts itself into investigations involving its own weapons
It is literally the facts ot the story. Repeating strawman does not further your argument, or anyones opinion of your reasoning skills.
damnfine··on How Taser inserts itself into investigations involving its own weapons
That is depressing as hell. I got up that heavy once and life was signifigantly worse.
damnfine··on How Taser inserts itself into investigations involving its own weapons
The big differince is where you are tased, and for how long. I have done taser training and we usually got it in the leg, rather than across the chest, as most deployments happen.
damnfine··on Tesla’s new Solar Roof is actually cheaper than a normal roof
Can we get an apples to apples price comparison? Most people dont get huge government kickbacks, and have to pay connection fees to the local power company, etc...

I know 3 people with solar, and none are able to use it because of regulations except when completely disconnected from the grid.

damnfine··on Silicon Valley's Politics: Liberal with One Big Exception
So S.V. is more Liberal than Democrat, is this news to anyone who understands the distinction?
damnfine··on Southpark Game gets harder if you choose dark skin
A feature just to generate media attention, clever. Looks like kotaku fell for it as usual.
damnfine··on Teen marijuana use falls to 20-year low
Its simply not as cool when its legal, and grandma does it.
damnfine··on Bringing back the iPhone headphone jack, in China
I know people in most cities with a similar setup, if often a bit more specific to their hobby. I have a similar setup for old deadbug 'tronics and audio gear. Between making geek friends and hackerspaces, most people in the industrialized world have access to this stuff on a reasonable budget with a bit of effort.
damnfine··on The Memories of Plants
And the Vegan shows up! I kid, but the stereotype really holds true all too often.

The unsaid assumption in your comment, that I disagree with, is that harvesting animals causes anymore suffering than caring for and harvesting plants (in a humane manner, which admittedly, many facotry farms fail at on either side.)

damnfine··on Computer Randomly Plays Classical Music (2009)
One of the rare times a BIOS error message was less useful than the microsoft one.
damnfine··on A Muslim PhD student gets targeted as a security risk; now he wants to know why
Taking off the tinfoil hat, stripping away his race, and religion, this guy still reads suspicious as hell.

1. Postgrad, with connections around the world, but works airport job. Ramp agent for Delta.

2. Uses new credentials to fly to previously unavailable places immediately.

3. Many mentions of odd behavior, taliored suits, frequent travel to other odd places.

Its a shame he can't know why, but there does seem to be a reason. Assuming there is a security risk to revealing the reason, what would be a better method of limiting disclosure? This seems to be a problem with classification, not skin color or faith.

damnfine··on How Americans Are Killing the English Language
Did americans kill english? Or did the brits fail to evolve their own? The article is a lot of hand wringing over 'American' becoming the worlds default 'English' without much attention to why. It is global communication, and americans do a whole lot more of it (in the last century).
damnfine··on Return of the city-state
Wtf. The US military does indeed exist, even to quash internal rebellion. The national guard is the branch that would deal with such a threat. The number of armed citizens alone might suprise you as well. So all in all, I am not sure what you mean. Anyone could 'attack a city in their own interest', but there are quite a few organized parties very invested in resisting that with their lives.
damnfine··on Return of the city-state
Wow dude, go outside more often. Sure there are less farmers, but they are no less important. That is ignoring the natural resources, and your disagreeable prejudices.
damnfine··on U.S. House approves proposal to speed the deployment of self-driving cars
