damidekronik··on We created a fake language to root out resume liars
Just a note to anyone considering using PDFs for their CVs. Plenty of companies use Applicant Tracking Software (ATS) to manage recruitment process. Most often keywords are extracted from the CVs. PDFs are harder to extract from meaning you might not even be considered (or even ever seen) by a recruiter due to a far from perfect implementation. Of course the case here is different all together but maybe this insight will save someone's a fair bit of frustration.
damidekronik··on Soldat: a 2D (side-view) multiplayer action game
About 15 for me :)

Great mechanics Great soundtrack (if you like heavier music) Great varied modes of play

damidekronik··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
Downgrade in terms of privacy from WhatsApp? Some explanation is needed for such a bold statement.
damidekronik··on Ask HN: Self-taught webdev with lots of free time. What should I learn?
Not really in my opinion, the book is really about the data aspect. Probably your best bet is to just pick your favourite programming language and build something in it.

The book is great but not what you seem to be looking for.

damidekronik··on Ask HN: Do you still use MongoDB?
Not OP but I think it's more about the importance of the said data, number of collections to think about and so on. Regarding your point, I would guess some index changes might have had a significant impact here.
damidekronik··on Sid Meier’s Civilization VI free until May 28th
Same for me, the graphic of Civ 6 always felt sluggish, at least now I can get more people to try it with me.

On another side, the multiplayer in Civ 5 was always broken, the saves didn't load, someone getting dropped almost always meant 2+ turns lost for them. Hopefull this one doesn't suffer from this any more.

damidekronik··on G2A pays Factorio developer $40k over illegally obtained game keys
Analysis paralysis of which one to choose is getting real. Thanks for the recommendations.

Project Ozone 3 seems great indeed. Thank you!

Could you please link some of the minecraft mods worth looking at? I did reasearch that in the past but was disappointed greatly. Thanks in advance!
damidekronik··on Ask HN: Who Is Firing?
It's definitely not easy, more candidates on the market -> higher competiton. As a side note, furlough only covers up to a certain salary level (2500 pounds I think).
damidekronik··on How porting to TypeScript solved our API woes
Yea, the structural typing nature of TS drives me nuts. One thing I like in TS is the ability to reference individual "parts of a type", for example Account["email"] instead of "string" in function signatures. Is there something like that in C#?
damidekronik··on SAP Graph: API Sandbox on preview
Also no mention of testing, which from my experience is the last, and hardest barrier to overcome.
damidekronik··on Ask HN: What are your favorite low-coding apps / tools as a developer?
The tutorial looks great. Thank you for a great work!
damidekronik··on Apple fined $1.2B by French antitrust authorities
Is it that much different in US? Beside that, the tech has a general problem of lack of good career progression outside of going into management.

"put off by the "low status" of being a programmer" - Must be a different Europe where you are living
damidekronik··on Ask HN: Why GraphQL APIs but no Datalog APIs?
Still requires boilerplate for thunks, which in my case is most redux actions. Also I think you still don't support for specifying same reducer for many actions (for example as an array - https://github.com/piotrwitek/typesafe-actions). The immutable update logic however is amazing and I am glad I got introduced to it by you!
damidekronik··on Can we survive technology? (1955) [pdf]
Yea, that is of my understanding too. There was no need for any great advance in that matter at the time. Now however, the situation is different, and yet, not as pressing as the global conflict back then to fund another "Los Alamos".
damidekronik··on Can we survive technology? (1955) [pdf]
"Consequently, a few decades hence energy may be free—just like the unmetered air—with coal and oil used mainly as raw materials for organic chemical synthesis, to which, as experience has shown, their properties are best suited."

I am wondering why this prediction is so off given how other ones are spot on? How the situation back then made John von Neumann believe it, and what happened differently, moving this into the realms of fantasy.

Perhaps if an another effort of a scale of the Manhattan Project had happened, the concept of the "free energy" would have been more realistic.
