daliusd··on On Being a Senior Engineer (2012)
I think you have misread quote here. Emphasis is on taking responsibility here IMHO. Your proposal to “divide and conquer” is still estimation process.
daliusd··on On Being a Senior Engineer (2012)
I like how this article is still relevant after 12 years. It gave me some ideas why I have some problems working with my colleague (as well senior level engineer).
daliusd··on China's manufacturers are going broke
Militarism and imperialism is not about wars only
daliusd··on Did pizza exist in the Soviet Union?
I was born in 1982 so it is like 7 years of Soviet Union of which majority I don’t remember. I think your question can be looked in two ways:

* what cheap food people made instead of pizza? I think in Lithuania it is anything with meat and potato. In some occasions meat and dough (kibin might be more interesting case). My mother did pizza actually but it is not pizza in traditional sense as it was done with carrots and green peas.

* what cheap street food was eaten instead of pizza. I don’t have idea here as I don’t remember street food at all. I remember we bought kvass in the street.

daliusd··on Perfectionism – one of the biggest productivity killers in the eng industry
IMHO article defines perfectionism doing both things you have mentioned too early. E.g. you do prototype and instead of showing that to stakeholders you clean it up, cover with tests and etc.
daliusd··on Did pizza exist in the Soviet Union?
It depends on country or region which was part of Soviet Union.
daliusd··on Show HN: Sendune – open-source HTML email designer
There is site for that https://www.caniemail.com/ . I don’t use it, even if I work on email marketing software, but I guess it might be useful sometimes.

More details are welcome. React seems to be doing fine and why Preact and not Solid for example?
daliusd··on Show HN: I made a split keyboard for large palms
34 keys are usually diodeless as many microcontrollers (promicro, elite-c and etc.) have enough connections to connect everything directly on one side of split keyboard and when you need one connection to communicate between sides. RP2040 can accommodate even more keys (even RP2040-zero). You need two microcontrollers of course.
daliusd··on 'The big problem is water': UK ebike owners plagued by failing motors
You can attach trailer to bicycle and use it to transport your kids to nursery/school during winter. There I live both things would be illegal with motorcycle.
daliusd··on Jack Ma steps out from the shadows with morale-boosting post
Which communist regime has not been nationalist authoritarian? Yes, in theory it is different thing but somehow in practice it always ends up like this.

daliusd··on Starship.rs: minimal, fast prompt for any shell
Thanks. That might help.
daliusd··on Starship.rs: minimal, fast prompt for any shell
Well, we are arguing about semantics. You say that minimal means that it must be functionally minimal. I say that minimal UX is valid meaning as well.
daliusd··on Starship.rs: minimal, fast prompt for any shell
I am cli/vim guy - that’s my daily tools. Starship is very stable and it is useful for me. The only problem I have experienced is with custom extension I wrote myself (problem was slowness not stability).
daliusd··on Starship.rs: minimal, fast prompt for any shell
I am using starship for some time and it is great. The only advice is to avoid `custom` as it is slow: not too much but might be annoying.
daliusd··on Starship.rs: minimal, fast prompt for any shell
I still think minimal is appropriate in this case as it shows only what’s relevant in the context.

daliusd··on I designed my own keyboard layout. Was it worth it?
It is fun, you learn something in process, nothing wrong with that. E.g. knowledge I have acquired while playing with keyboards was beneficial while fixing some home appliances and toys. I don’t have any health problems like RSI and find it more comfortable. And BTW there is end game - you can create one key Morse keyboard that is actually usable https://blog.ffff.lt/posts/morsilka/

daliusd··on Motocompacto from Honda, 3.7 inch wide Briefcase-form Electric Scooter
It looks really impractical. The only benefit it is smallish, but since it is heavy I don’t see there are many people who would use it

daliusd··on Modern genetic data suggests pre-humans were a group of only 1,280 individuals
That’s not the case everywhere IMHO. E.g. marrying cousins is kind of norm in some countries
daliusd··on Modern genetic data suggests pre-humans were a group of only 1,280 individuals
Killing competitors means competitors are dead. Thus bottleneck. How many competitors that group could have killed? Up to 1000 - maybe, 10000 - that would be very interesting. 2000 is still bottleneck

daliusd··on Transcript of taped conversations among German nuclear physicists (1945)
Maybe it is note that situation has not changed since then and how Merkel has failed with her foreign politics with Russia and how Germany is paying now because of it. Or maybe it is proof how insightful this is.
