If you want proper security go to firecracker [^1]. Podman is the "RedHat/IBM docker-way" but I see very little benefit overall; never less if it works for you great and go with it!

I would suggest boradcom to offer two tie: one free on they repository and one se t of more specific images.
Burning the docker.io images is a dumb move.
Java had changing its skin: Applets and Security managers, part of the cornerstone of Java 1.102 are gone. So Java are 2-3 different evolving language nowadays.
JVM has so strong optimization layers which make very difficult for other languages to provide similar performance (Erlang is one of them in my humble opinion).
Yeah C/C++ program are faster but error prone (manual memory allocation...) PHP is faster for web developing but refactoring is a nightmare. Python can compete, but I do see few big projects written in it (Zulip,Dropbox,Plone/Zope).
JavaScript is super rapid dev rapid but can become a mess.
Rust is the newcome, I do not know but it seems quite cognitive-complex to code with it (I may be wrong).
I worked with shit-like Java code and i was always able to refactor it in small chunks.
The verbosity of Java is its major strength, but some things added to the language (like default interface implementations, virtual threads) are drawbacks because it create some confusion on basic pattern strategy you can employ with the language.

I evaluated Listen/notify but it seems to loose messages if no one is listening, so its use case seems pretty limited to me (my 2 cents).
Anyway, If you need to scale, I suggest an ad hoc queue server like rabbitmq.
My Misterio docker based tool is searching new feature request... https://github.com/daitangio/misterio/
Also, I am playing a bit with Zulip Chat, which I find quite well done and easy to self-host, considering its complexity: https://github.com/zulip/docker-zulip
Last but not least, I suggest a new Murderbook novel... https://amzn.to/3TMJdlh because there is not only coding!
I wrote about it in my blog [1]. It is an amazing tool with an unstable company behind.
Time will show us if the FAIR Package Manager will be able to improve the overall ecosystem status.
I ended up using hugo + isso (for commenting) and it works very well. I moved to this setup after the wordpress drama, and even if I miss something, freedom has no price: https://gioorgi.com/2024/liberta-come-aria/
It can manage multiple machine with just ssh access and docker install.
Google is stronger but not so much as it was in 2000 (when the other search engines were...terrible).
Today the Search engine is nothing without 'support site' like:
- StackOverflow - Reddit - Wikipedia
and news.ycombinator.com :) of course
I do not want to be rude, but C has some error-prone syntax: if you forget a *, you will be in trouble. If you do 1 byte offset error on an array in the stack, you get erratic behavior, core dump if you are lucky.
Buffer overlflows also poses security risks.
try...catch was not present on C, and it is one of the most powerful addition of C++ for code structuring.
Thread management/async programming without support from the language (which is fine, but if you see Erlang or Java, they have far more support for thread monitors).
Said that, there are very high quality library in C (pthreads, memory management and protection, lib-eventio etc) which can overcome most of its limit but... it is still error-prone
I read the Google money are the true income, and it is a pity, because this technology merits more now than in the past.
The problem is that there is no good rule to choose the RIGHT stack, and that is the challenge!
For instance Joel Sposlky's team chose ASP.NET for "Stack overflow" simply because they know it better than, say PHP or Java Struts 1.x
XOR REG,REG
is often faster than REG <-0
operation.Zero page is like a having 256 generic RISC registers (a bit faster than accessing to other memory areas).
Very easy to understand how the assembly is micro-coded
Cons:
It is impossible to create a "generic" memory pointer with an index >255 without auto-modifying code.
It is a true 8bit only system and cannot manipulate 16bit word easily Steve Wozniac created a small VM just to manage 16 bit Integers (see the his Byte magazine articles).
Too much addressing mode.
So I like 6502, but I disagree a bit.
Initially, I only followed the ‘drama’ tangentially, also because I have always considered myself a mere "end user" of Wordpress, even if long-time one (I used it for about 20 years).
For me, the fact that Wordpress.com sold a service based on an "extended" version of Wordpress.org was never a particular problem, but I never thought it was illegal to compete directly with it by taking the open source software and offering a simple hosting service.
Anyway I started to consider to switch from Wordpress to a static site hosted with hugo, retaining the comment system and all the URLs in the original form, more or less.
I was surprised because it took very little time (less 1 week of total work) to migrate my articles (1000+) and the comments.
I used open source tools, and I am a "hugo" newbie, so I make some trade off too.
Never less, I suggest all of you to give a try to hugo+isso (isso is a comment system very light).
