daguava··on Hard Reset
This transcends tangential - it's so annoying it's unusable.
daguava··on Hard Reset
Maybe this entire website should be re-submitted as an anti-user experience.
daguava··on CRISPR cancer trial success paves the way for personalized treatments
Is that the real COST or the markup "cost"
daguava··on Musk warns of Twitter bankruptcy as more senior executives quit
Elon is a fraud by every sense of the word - intellectually, in business, and emotionally.

Every one of those pillars bankrupting him would give me infinite joy, after his family's exploitation of so many respectful lives.

daguava··on Nascar driver stuns to qualify for championship with GameCube move
YEET, as it were.
daguava··on Nascar driver stuns to qualify for championship with GameCube move
This is one of those events that I'm of several minds about: 1) This is what keeps people outside the scene interested and taking note - NASCAR absolutely should publicize and play up this moment, it brings a lot of folks to the sport. It was incredibly awesome.

2) A lot of times something like this is how you form some new regulations - it's truly one of those "You know, this was excellent but we can't do it again" situations.

3) The best course forward is to leave it alone and legal in this moment, publicize it, but also treat it as the formation of some new rules.

Side note, Nascar 2005, which he referenced as one of his inspirations for this, is one of my favorite gamecube games. I remember picking it up and playing it for hours on end, the soundtrack was awesome, and it didn't feel like an EA cash-grab at the time. Man how times have changed...

Edit: Extra info - the 11 of Hamlin has previously made it into the chase for the champion ship by _intentionally wrecking drivers_ , so by and large a huge part of the fan base believes he got what was coming to him.

daguava··on I Fell 15,000 Feet and Lived (2009)
How we treat our wounded and hurt is so incredibly fucked up. I won't candy coat it - if we put you to training and battle and you get hurt I fully expect you + family to get an upper-middle-class experience.
daguava··on Most buildings at MIT campus are remaining closed to the public
This is fucked - one thing I enjoyed about my campus access is I could waltz into almost any academy buildings... and so could anyone else. I met so many cool people who were just interested, and just wanted to have a chat.

It harks to the older age where you just show up to a place to get a glimpse and hang out...

If that's gone? War won...

daguava··on NY Supreme Court reinstates NYC's fired unvaccinated employees, orders backpay
They did something "right" alright - this will get smacked down by the next level.
daguava··on Why I Two-Space (2012)
She was hated for aggressively screaming at students and taking out her anger for the life events she professed to us BEFORE our class and teaching period started.

Maybe you need to understand that this isn't YOUR experience and I'm accurately talking about a degenerate teaching professional who did their best to be an absolute scumfuck piece of shit.

daguava··on Why I Two-Space (2012)
I learned two space in keyboard classes but hated every second of it. It made no sense. And to a kid who loves to push authority I always asked "Why am I doing this arbitrary thing no-one can give evidence as to why?"

I'm glad two-space died, and I no longer two-space. In my school it was simply used as an authority or power over the children by a typing teacher who was frustrated in a lot of things, but mostly in her marriage.

Mrs. Botana - You were the most hated teacher at our school, and you telling us you recognized how hated you were solved nothing. Enjoy your two-space.

daguava··on Pure Data as a plugin, with a new GUI
I'm going to ask the dumb question here - how is this at the top with zero discussion? If I need to get dunked for asking that's fine, but I don't understand, since HackerNews is suppose to be a place for high quality discussion on tech.
daguava··on Butterfly wing patterns emerge from ancient ‘junk’ DNA
Man, butterflies relying on all this old shit smh.... [ indiscriminate murmuring.... ] Yo hey [hallway scuffling] Yo PM, can't we just deprecate butterflies already? Ah he- I know I kno- yes I understand the boss likes butterflies, pretty and what no- no stop. Butterflies are a cost center, can we just deprecate and phase them out? Deprecation Plan? Cost Center Optimization? Ah shit ah- yeah, we keep the butterflies....

daguava··on Lufthansa bans AirTags in checked luggage
If Lufthansa doesn't understand the simple meaning of an electronic device it's all the more power for them to get destroyed with this messaging.
daguava··on Lufthansa bans AirTags in checked luggage
This is the dumbest thing they could have done - Streisand effect is in full swing after this. "What doesn't Lufthansa want us to see? What are they hiding?"

THANK YOU LUFTHANSA for making people actually hold you accountable for the ungodly shitty practices most airlines hold themselves to without recourse. Enjoy the bed you've made for yourself.

daguava··on Granting Pardon for the Offense of Simple Possession of Marijuana
He was already being publicly executed by half the country for wearing a tan suit while being black, he didn't have "old white dude" lines of political credit.
daguava··on YouTube age-restriction quagmire exposed by 78-minute Mega Man documentary
It was under a category which accepts that, and --- given the timespan, dominated such a tiny fraction of the video that it's almost unheard of.

daguava··on Cramming 'Papers, Please' onto Phones

daguava··on Cramming 'Papers, Please' onto Phones
The attention to detail and player experience in this is second to none, this article is a treat, thank you for sharing.

Working in the gaming industry myself, everything here spoke to what I want gaming to be.

daguava··on Do breastfed children have higher IQs? The answer is annoyingly hard to uncover
"My pool of the scientific method is very bad and would never pass the test, but here my findings on science of 2 kids who I did not give any other context for"
daguava··on New MacBook Air with M2
Even that's not needed, it's just a shitty spelling-only reply when everyone in question knows what's going on - it added nothing to the discussion.
daguava··on Vets today are like doctors yesterday
Took my dog who tore his ACL to the vet in Kiel, WI. They wanted to put him on life ending pain medication which would get him a few more months tops.

Took him to another vet in a local smaller community with staff that actually cared, they were able to properly wire the tendon and give that dog 5 years relatively pain-free life.

Many vets are absolute hacks and need to be roasted for it.

daguava··on The dangerous playgrounds of 1900s through vintage photographs
Dangerous playgrounds are a fucking AWESOME idea, but they also would breed the NEGLIGENT PLAYGROUND.

I went to an elementary school in Wisconsin where they had a bunch of tires bolted to a huge wooden pole.

After a few years the metal bands and rusted webbing of the tires was sticking out of all the climbing elements. How about we just give all the kids TETANUS FOR FREE? It's on the house.

At the same school I was a big swing proponent - I would ride that goddamn swing every day, no matter how much rust it developed and ---- surprise, the chain rope broke and almost killed my ass.

Edit: My school did pay these glorious medical bills. Shitty playgrounds are good until you almost die.

daguava··on Apple M2 Die Shot and Architecture Analysis – Big Cost Increase and A15 Based IP
There's a lot of claims of poached talent in the article, basically claiming [paraphrasing] "Apple, maintaining their stressful work env and not paying to shore that up lost some rockstars"

How true is this? If they're on the money it's an excellent example of a talent retention miss leading to a demonstrable mediocrity in delivery.

daguava··on Game Boy Camera Canon EF Lens Mount (2018)
So, the really cool part of this is the raw sensor used, I believe, supports up to 256 levels of brightness (I could be wrong on this, been a long time since I read some hacking articles), but the GB Camera itself limits it down to several because of display limitations!

This camera and sensor was so ahead of its time that it blows my mind!
