dag11··on Spurious Splines
This is beautiful.
dag11··on An Unknown Man
Do you have any sources/examples besides Stephen Glass, which was over eighteen years ago?
dag11··on Autopilot Full Self-Driving Demonstration [video]
Is there an easy way to play a Vimeo video at 1/3 speed?
dag11··on Google Earth VR
They had to do a crazy amount of optimization just to the Earth engine to make it work in 90fps VR.

Here's a talk one of the devs gave at SIGGRAPH a few months ago about how they made it work: https://vimeo.com/177549565

dag11··on iPhone, iPad and Mac sales are down, but Apple only cares about services now
Anecdotally, contactless is supported in a majority of places in Europe – even though Apple Pay has yet to roll out to many European banks. As a result, I use Apple Pay at most places in Switzerland and Poland, yet it's always the merchant's first time seeing Apple Pay used. In fact, most of them weren't aware it's a thing since their credit card / bank doesn't offer it.
dag11··on America’s Last Top Model
This is not what clickbait is. For those unfamiliar with 99PI, this is a thing they do with all of their episode titles. They're often a pun of some sort, and make the subject of the episode a fun surprise which is made apparent at the start.

One of my favorite titles is "Reefer Madness", which is about refrigerated shipping containers – a.k.a. reefers.

dag11··on Tesla Model S autonomously crashes into a parked trailer while in ‘summon’ mode
You can already do that with human drivers today. Shining super bright lights down a road before a sharp turn can surely kill someone.
dag11··on Apple Watch owners use their nose to navigate the watch
Oh I almost forgot, you might like my preferred way of dismissing Apple Watch / Android Wear: I call it the "Karate Chop". The surface area of the outer edge of your hand is enough to cover the screen :)
dag11··on Apple Watch owners use their nose to navigate the watch
I'm guilty of the nose tap, as well as the forehead-tap and chin-tap to dismiss the screen. Wearables are fun!
dag11··on Real-time GIF images
I had a lot of fun making a little real-time visitor counter using Motion JPEG a few years ago! I was quite proud of that :)

The demo is still live:

dag11··on War on talent
Can't seem to read it, there's a paywall.
dag11··on The 1,000-Year GIF
You don't have to hack gifs to do this. The ability to indefinitely stream frames of an image (of any format) is part of HTTP.

I made a live png view counter for funsies with this idea: http://drewgottlieb.net/2012/07/29/real-time-user-count.html

dag11··on Why Britain has ‘ghost trains’
That's really interesting. Anywhere I can learn more about this?
dag11··on Typedrummer
I call this one "The Master".

dag11··on This is what happens after you die
All of the components of diet coke and mentos fit into the bottle prior :)
dag11··on PyPy.js: A fast, compliant Python implementation for the web
Or this:

    import js
    js.globals.console.log('hi!')
dag11··on Microsoft (Yes, Microsoft) Has a Far-Out Vision
> A full decade before the Apple Watch, Microsoft introduced its own computer on a wrist.

Where can I learn more about this?

dag11··on Elementary OS Freya Released
Even as someone familiar with Elementary OS in the past, I can't figure out what's new with this release.
dag11··on List of April Fools' Day Announcements
Phew, this fixed com.google. Now I can search again!
dag11··on Salted Password Hashing – Doing It Right
Sending an email to the registered account is not a solution, because that doesn't tell the registering user that the username is unavailable.
dag11··on Duktape: an embeddable JavaScript engine
One application is to make a plugin system for your app. Lua is often used this way.
dag11··on Old Masters: After 80, some people don’t retire. They reign
Betty White's responses are fantastic. Her humor really shines through!
dag11··on Inbox is a reinvention of email from Google
It's nothing like Wave.
dag11··on Exponent
It's like the raw mechanic of Cookie Clicker, sans cookies. And every other game like it. Nice distillation.
dag11··on Show HN: A Google Calendar Door Sign
I made something very similar using an Arduino Ethernet (using Power Over Ethernet). For the same reasons you mentioned, I totally recommend your way over mine; the Arduino was super expensive, and doing the HTTP myself was more work than it should be.

dag11··on Apple releases U2 album removal tool
Wow, that's really weird to hear. Google's never done that to me.
dag11··on Apple releases U2 album removal tool
I have Google Music All Access and I've never experienced Google plopping songs/albums in my library that I didn't explicitly request.

How is this happening to you?

dag11··on The McCollough Effect
When I first looked at the black and white lines just now, I already saw a faint green and magenta glow in them. I hadn't even looked at the colored images yet.

Then I remembered that several months ago I tried this. Could it have possibly lasted that long?

dag11··on Google I/O 2014
I also own Google Glass and barely wear it anymore. When Wear was announced, I was (and still am) super excited, because except for the camera, it has all the features I use Glass for, and more!
