czechdeveloper··on Petition to stop plant-based dairy censorship in the EU
I don't get where you are pointing at. It's already illegal to call vegan alternatives for example "oat milk" (in EU). By now, you could not even "evoke" milk, such as "non-dairy", "not-milk", "as milk", "milky", all would be forbidden.
czechdeveloper··on Simple Bank Is Closing
They used to have pay-once app. Now you have to pay $12 a month and you are stuck in ecosystem that has your data and require payments forever. That is too steep, especially outside of USA. I'll kill my first unnecessary expense by not buying it.
czechdeveloper··on Green recovery must end the reign of GDP, argue Cambridge and UN economists
GDP measurement is ok. What is problem is targeting is as main and only mesaurement of success of economies.
czechdeveloper··on Lambda School is the biggest mistake I made this year
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.
czechdeveloper··on Disaster prepping is mainstream again
Thank you, I updated it
czechdeveloper··on Disaster prepping is mainstream again
I once read in recent German pamphlet "If every German is prepared, Germany is prepared" and it stuck with me.

Even if you don't see basic prepping as necessity, it's way better when after disaster firest responders can care for elderly and disabled, not for you.

czechdeveloper··on I no longer build software
I see Boston, MA on his github profile
czechdeveloper··on What's so hard about PDF text extraction?
My use is exclusively "this will end up on paper in a minute", so any improvement would be irrelevant.

Why would I want document type that can't even refloat on display size to represent any longer written text that is supposed to be consumed on digital device?

czechdeveloper··on What's so hard about PDF text extraction?
This compain can be applied to paper too. PDF is not much more than precise document to be printed or exactly visually presented.
czechdeveloper··on The Lindy Effect predicts that programming languages will further survive about
Lindy Effect is prediction and obvisoulsy full of exceptions, yet tweets sound like it's a "law"

> Java has only 25 years of life in it

czechdeveloper··on Usbkill – anti-forensic tool to halt computer when new USB device is connected
I don't think it solves same problem.
czechdeveloper··on Gold price rises above $2k for first time
If you would sell every time something reaches all-time high, you would really not make any money.
czechdeveloper··on Hyperapp – A tiny framework for building web interfaces
I read about it but it just did not click as V1 did. Also I will not rewrite old code just for sake of change and I want all system to be on same framework if possible. I may actually do my own fork where only difference will be passing root state and root actions in addition to partial ones, which will fix great amount of issues I have.
czechdeveloper··on Hyperapp – A tiny framework for building web interfaces
I love it, but I actually stuck with version 1, which was way more intuitive for me.

Just a side note, I'm not fulltime front-end, so keeping up with modern frameworks is out of my capacity.

It's great for smart components to my standard multi-paged systems, but I used it even for small PWA applications.

czechdeveloper··on GitHub Classroom
I've tried to use it once to teach group of 15 students. But I left it in favor of just public GitHub repository for each student. It just felt too heavy for the task.
czechdeveloper··on Show HN: Basic.css – Classless CSS Starter File
Based on your link, unless you support IE11, you should be fine with variables.
czechdeveloper··on Patio11's Law: The software economy is bigger than you think
It's also funny how nowadays such bird detection would possibly be just another few hours.
czechdeveloper··on Bootstrap v5: drop Internet Explorer support
You can remain using older versions then.

But they can't really stay relevant and keep supporting IE.

czechdeveloper··on Spain's hospital IT systems under “massive attack” (in Spanish)
We recently (during corona crisis) had attach on strategic Czech hospital too.
czechdeveloper··on We are pausing upcoming Chrome and Chrome OS releases
I wonder, if people just stopped working or moved on some covid related project?
czechdeveloper··on The chronic suffering of the VB.NET community
There are 1 to 1 transpilers between languages (with few exceptions such as LINQ to XML in VB) that are really good.

I've migrated hundreds of thousands lines of VB to C# in past years.

czechdeveloper··on C# Pattern Matching
Every single feature C# got in past years increased my productivity.

I understand that it may cause issues to new learners, but overall, what of them do you consider bloat?

czechdeveloper··on Just 29k Western Monarch butterflies are left in California
Scientists: we are killing the wildlife, half of it in just 40 past years

You: our attempt at not killing it will be futile because universe dost not care and is always changing

Me: ???

What you write sounds like deep thought, until you realized you just justify inaction to anything because deep thoughts.

czechdeveloper··on LInQer – C# Integrated Queries ported to Javascript
I think word "performance" is not proper here. Maybe productivity.
czechdeveloper··on Switching from Chrome to Firefox
Pocket is owned by Mozilla, so if Pocket is spyware, Mozilla is making spyware. Does not sound right.
czechdeveloper··on Bushfires Release over Half Australia’s Annual Carbon Emissions
Last time I checked, this year is 8 fold of normal.
czechdeveloper··on Australia’s hottest day on record
I've read that current fires consumed about 8x the area that is average in this time of year.

Crazy

czechdeveloper··on Coders Programming Themselves Out of a Job (2018)
I was worried whole time that you will tell your boss about your automation and you and whole team will get fired and replaced by it.
czechdeveloper··on Learning at work is work, and we must make space for it
Can I ask what you do now? I'm programming for one and half decade and wonder about moving to something else. But it's bit scary as software is only thing I know.
czechdeveloper··on PIA VPN to be acquired by malware company founded by former Israeli spy
I recently extended my subscription by 2 years, now I guess I can just toss it.
