cyp0633··on Replace OCR with Vision Language Models
Existing solutions like Tesseract already can embed text into the image, but I'm wondering if there's a way to combine LLM with Tesseract, so that LLMs can help correcting results and finding unidentified text, and finally still embed text back to the image
cyp0633··on S1: The $6 R1 Competitor?
Qwen's QvQ-72B does much more "wait"s than other LLMs with CoT I tried, maybe they've somewhat used that trick already?
cyp0633··on TikTok preparing for U.S. shut-off on Sunday
They are simply different translations, period. The book you mentioned is usually referred to as "红宝书" (Red Precious Book). Don't know where the translation on Wikipedia comes from.
cyp0633··on HMD Key – A lightweight, affordable smartphone
A Redmi 14C offers 4GB RAM, MTK G81 SoC, for 499 CNY (about 66 EUR, slightly more expensive than the HMD one) in China. It would be a strong competitor if it's that cheap in Europe as well, but sadly no. The price is almost doubled. That said, it's still a phone you shouldn't buy if you can afford a better one.
cyp0633··on NeuralSVG: An Implicit Representation for Text-to-Vector Generation
Claude has been doing a good job generating SVGs compared to its rivals, happy to see new models bringing image generation even further
cyp0633··on Akamai to shut down its CDN operations in China
I remember the days when jsDelivr suddenly lost its ICP licence, and therefore got an immediate ban in China Mainland. It used to be a really reliable CDN service for both China and abroad. Then it suddenly failed. PS: China now allows foreign entities to run CDNs, ISPs and IDCs in specific cities, starting from Apr 2024. This could be because something else.
cyp0633··on Siyuan: Privacy-first, self-hosted personal knowledge management software
Have been hosting this with Docker for ~2years. It's quite stable now except from some expected minor bugs on firefox (because they "don't have time to maintain").
cyp0633··on South Korean president declares martial law, parliament votes to lift it
Can Americans live without cheap goods from China? Yes, but those goods may not be easily accessible in a short period. The same goes for Chinese people. Although there are indeed alternatives, Qualcomm and NVIDIA, for example, still dominate the market, simply because they can offer the best product. And those alternatives, from my view here in China, still have a way to go.

War is not a joke, it does no good to both sides.

cyp0633··on South Korean president declares martial law, parliament votes to lift it
Not gonna happen in recent years, I suppose. PRC also needs US-designed and/or Taiwan-manufactured advanced chips. The possibility of war will ever decrease as long as more and more people wake up to the consequences.
cyp0633··on Huawei launches Mate 70 Series with self-developed HarmonyOS
The OS compatible with Android apps is HarmonyOS (<5.0), which you can literally think of as Android + some (maybe much) Huawei stuff. The thing based on OpenHarmony is sometimes referred to as HarmonyOS Next / 5.0, and some of those having upgraded to HMOS 5.0 are always complaining its compatibility in Chinese communities. Huawei always invents so many names so that people often confuse them.
cyp0633··on Huawei launches Mate 70 Series with self-developed HarmonyOS
HarmonyOS is built upon open-source OpenHarmony (which seems to have many variants, not sure all of them are open), and OpenHarmony runs on Linux / HongMeng kernel (see OSDI '24 paper for the latter, code not open yet)
cyp0633··on DOJ will push Google to sell off Chrome
Then MS is such a giant that it will have to sell it after some time
cyp0633··on PRC Targeting of Commercial Telecommunications Infrastructure
Seems that you just don't believe the other side has done some investigation and therefore did not search for it. I'm not saying that either incident is fake but you've just proved my point of view.
cyp0633··on PRC Targeting of Commercial Telecommunications Infrastructure
Both depend on whether you believe in the government actually. When we say "Chinese state media", we're really talking about a media controlled by the government, especially for those political topics
cyp0633··on PRC Targeting of Commercial Telecommunications Infrastructure
Believe it or not, it's up to you; the same goes with FBI
cyp0633··on PRC Targeting of Commercial Telecommunications Infrastructure
According to Chinese state media, the US installed malware in systems in Chinese universities tied with military, e.g. Northwestern Polytechnical University
cyp0633··on Chi-Fi Tuning – Why It Sounds So Damn Piercing to Western Ears (2020)
Not in 80s or 90s, but 大海航行靠舵手 could be an example in my opinion. Songs in Mainland has been influenced by HK and Taiwan a lot since about 1980
cyp0633··on Tesla Transport Protocol over Ethernet (TTPoE)
In Tesla's presentation slides, "Tesla Transport Protocol Over Ethernet (TTPoE): A New Lossy, Exa-Scale Fabric for the Dojo AI Supercomputer", they mentioned that the network layer is optional (but not removed)
cyp0633··on Wp2hugo: Best WordPress to Hugo migrator (written in Go)
You may need to authenticate with Application Password to access all information via REST API.
cyp0633··on Wp2hugo: Best WordPress to Hugo migrator (written in Go)
I didn't try Remark42, because Artalk has had an easier-to-understand backup/import format called Artran. I'm quite satisfied with Artalk now. Remark42 seems to have a similar format as well.
cyp0633··on Wp2hugo: Best WordPress to Hugo migrator (written in Go)
Using WordPress Export may lose some data, such as respondents' user agent. WordPress REST API has been more reliable in my opinion, and I've successfully used it to transfer the comments to Artalk.
cyp0633··on AMD's Strix Point: Zen 5 Hits Mobile
Power efficiency is a curve, and Apple may have its own reason not to make M1 Pro run at 110W as well
cyp0633··on Huawei's latest flagship smartphone contains no world-shaking silicon surprises
The X5 browser core in WeChat seems to be based on Chromium (and was vulnerable to Chromium-only vulnerability CVE-2023-4357)
cyp0633··on Netflix's '3 Body Problem' Has Chilling Social Media Parallels
I recommend everyone who enjoy the story to try the TV series by Tencent, especially for original book lovers. The Netflix version is somewhat a glimpse.
cyp0633··on iPhone owners can leave EU for 30 days before they lose third-party app stores
Apple claims that not all traffic goes through the enabled VPN, so an European VPN may not make any difference
cyp0633··on Ollama is now available on Windows in preview
Mistral-7B answers in Chinese only when I explicitly tells it to do so
cyp0633··on Tech Trend: Shanzhai (2009)
Shanzhai AirPods Pro copies the look from Apple, has working noise cancellation, and even has a pop-up pairing window on iPhone, and all those cost less than 200 CNY (30 USD). It used to be a popular choice among people who want AirPods-like earphones, and some may use it for fraud (it looks identical to an authentic one).
cyp0633··on Loongson releases next-generation CPU
It's Loongarch, some sort of MIPS + RISC-V.
cyp0633··on Addictive cheap and controversial: the rise of China’s Temu app
Please remember that Pinduoduo (from the same company as that of Temu) steals information with 0day exploits from consumers in China.
cyp0633··on Huawei teardown shows chip breakthrough
Die shots definitely can tell more than assumptions, just wait.
