Let’s stop pretending that the individuals who voted for this administration actually wanted most of what it is doing. The majority voted off of feelings and will not like the end result. There is a lot of explaining away the stupidity and I find it really annoying.
It’s not a difference of opinion that Tariffs will cause a rise in prices, no matter what the current administration says.
The fact he did two Nazi salutes to an applauding audience with smiles is deeply concerning.
He undoubtedly slashed spending, but didn’t he also tank revenue? The question I have is was any of that really necessary for him to get to where he is right now?
Plus these people are unlikely to ever get paid. This is all operating outside of congress. If the institutions survive at all this could become a mess of expensive lawsuits and settlements. But I suppose their intention is to permanently cut Congress out of the picture.
So not to take anything away from the rest of your comment but that part of it should be disregarded.
And I found the entire article very informative with little room for bias.
But this is ridiculously expensive: > $25 for 1000 queries
Sorry for your loss and glad you’re doing better.
One option could be if you’re going into a government run senior living center you need to pass that money down to whoever was going to inherit it/receive it through donation. And that has to be a taxable event to cover the cost of the subsidy on senior living.
People would hate that option because no one likes taxes but the private market is not getting us where we need to be. If people don’t like the option, no subsidy for them and they are free to figure out their own senior care. That money goes surprisingly fast.
I hope others feel the same and they revert to how Windows 7-10 was. I absolutely hate the experience every time I interact with a fresh install. But I don’t see a future where it gets any better.
I couldn’t agree more. DuckDB has been fantastic. I originally started playing around with it for poking at parquet files, but often use it for CSVs, JSON, whatever.
And another thing to note is duckDB plays really nice in a Jupyter notebook. Very useful when playing around with different data.
I have a small issue with the way the people who get into these hobbies are so bitter. Every job has stuff like this, we aren't special.
The bee population in America is supposedly growing very quickly thanks in part to tax breaks in Texas.
Global poverty is way down. Large part of that is China.
Gay rights have come a long way. Not perfect, but it’s nice that generally people can be more open about who they are.
I absolutely love all the open source projects out there for almost anything I want.
Yeah, we could be doing better. Much better. But it’s actually unlikely we will hit the worst case scenarios for climate change. The developing world is going to get rocked by the 2+C temperature increase, but it won’t be an extinction event, there is still more we can do, and there is much less denialism than the 90s or 00s.
Am I touching too much grass?

Also, I learned recently that we don’t have as much time with Earth as I originally thought. We have a few hundred million years to figure out how to colonize other planets or live in space before Earth becomes radically different and potentially unlivable. I imagine most civilizations get snuffed out like this.
