cyanbane··on Apple Pass Designer
Even though they call it pass, this can really be used for a ton of things. Neat addition to the ecosystem, I never would have thought of putting it in the hands of normal users.
cyanbane··on Only 2.6% of the most visited websites have fully valid HTML
I would def argue this is a feature of the net ( that people from all walks of browsers can see mostly the same thing ) and not a bug.
cyanbane··on Apple Is the King of AI and Nobody Knows It
I submitted this ( I am not the author ) because I thought it was interesting take, I honestly didn't think it was AI, maybe AI polished, but not AI. Was surprised when it was flagged and I saw over on HN Removals . Ran through Claude and got this back:

"Overall, my honest read: this feels like a human-written opinion piece (possibly AI-assisted for polish/editing, which is extremely common now), not a fully AI-generated article. The specific personal history ("I've been saying this in group chats for months"), the running joke about being right before everyone else, and the reader engagement in the comments (with the author replying) all point to a real person with a strong personality behind it — though I can't rule out that Claude or another model helped tighten the prose."

It is interesting that everyone was so very certain it was AI written. Just read your comment about it being Claude based, now I am trying to figure out if Claude is trying to recuse itself in some way by giving me those results.

Still feel like the point it interesting and going to keep diving into it and I am surprised it was flagged. May have to up my reading on Removals more and more.

cyanbane··on Codex Micro
I KVM between a bunch of boxes and I have a Doio KB16 for Claude and I love it. I get the reasoning for the product. Price is..... interesting.

cyanbane··on AI job grief: A psychological crisis hitting tech workers
"A separate strand of research frames resistance to AI itself as an identity-protective response, where workers push back against the technology because it threatens how they understand who they are."

Great read.

cyanbane··on George Foreman has died
"Although Foreman never confirmed exactly how much he has earned from the endorsement, Salton paid him $138 million in 1999 for the right to use his name. Prior to that, he was paid about 40% of the profits on each grill sold (earning him $4.5 million a month in payouts at its peak), yielding an estimated total of over $200 million just from the endorsement through 2011, substantially more than he earned as a boxer."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Foreman

Not sure if luck or stars just aligned. But that is some legit naming rights. Kudos to maybe, and I mean it... one of the best at it.

cyanbane··on We are the builders
Absolutely amazed at how quickly this is dropping on HN. I am not on either side, but man that algo must really not like it.
cyanbane··on Doge Is Working on a Custom Chatbot Called GSAi
I am a coder and don't work in AI. I don't have a firm grasp on how far away or near we are to something like this. From a non-political perspective, I find it very interesting if true.

cyanbane··on Ask HN: Where are all the parties?
I felt like there was a downward trend in parties before COVID hit for me. This would be me in my late 30s. In our 20s I feel like we still went to a lot of parties and tried to at least "drop by" when we could. But then we had kids and it became a lot harder - but we still try to make the important things ( bdays, graduations, etc ). This was the micro ( and just where I was in life ) now, with COVID I feel like a) there are not as many parties - just kind of like a covid hangover on social gatherings and b) it is much easier to say "no" without social repercussions. One thing I don't like is that now children don't get invited to a lot of other children's birthday parties, where as I remember that was a huge deal growing up for me. You always knew which friend had a birthday coming up and it was a huge deal. Now I feel like most kids in our social circle are fine with just 2 or 3 close friends over to the house for a small gathering. It just seems like the era of big, social parties has dwindled locally/micro.

I really enjoyed this thread as it really is neat to see how other people perceive something I have noticed, but not really acknowledged.

cyanbane··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
No, but to be fair I am a surface user, there are probably some power features in there that are not replicated.
cyanbane··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
> - Affinity Photo instead of Photoshop (I've been a PS user since 5.5, but they creep me out)

Made this change this year also.

cyanbane··on Ask HN: How to promote RSS subscriptions in 2022?
I do most of my content reading via Feedbin - a ton of that is on Twitter but I read through Feedbin. The rest is pure RSS. It has become second nature for me to just view source -> ctrl-f -> and keep fingers cross "rss" gets a hit. Wrote about it some here https://cyanbane.com/2018-08-10/Twitter-RSS

cyanbane··on Smart TVs sending sensitive user data to Netflix and Facebook
No, the above comment (not article) mentions screenshots. If I have an x-ray of someone on my screen along with patient name then how is that not personal information that could be screen shotted and sent to some endpoint?
