cwel··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
This one is specifically Linux (Wayland). if you set your user agent to Macintosh it will work; or at least it did a few months ago when I came across this. I've since resigned to using the electron bundle.

Google meet, Discord, Zoom all handle Mozilla/Linux. Slack hasn't figured it out yet.

> Only people without GamePass subscription and no desire to get it for even a month or two would buy the game on Steam

So the majority of people?

I jest, but I honestly don't know anyone who consults the GamePass offerings before making a decision on whether or not to buy a game. It's Steam or pirate.

cwel··on My Steam Machine is a 50ft HDMI cable
Never claimed it was. This is (essentially) a shortcut to a dedicated steamOS session. You could just plug the machine into a display, connect a controller, and open the steam 10ft ui.
cwel··on My Steam Machine is a 50ft HDMI cable
The issue in your setup is Windows^tm. (what I do) gaming machine's shell profile,

  if [[ $(tty) == "/dev/tty2" ]]; then
<insert your steamOS session invocation/args here>; sudo chvt 1; exit
  fi
then all you need is some event(s) to trigger changing to tty2 on the target machine. perhaps when a controller connects, or your tv changes input, or you press a button on your tv/tv box remote.

I understand what you meant.

  > the reason nobody offers better software is that people don’t want it enough
I wouldn't say that's THE reason, or even a contender. The average user has little agency over what the established tools are. There is no pressure to change the tools because there is no competition. You use what your employer dictates. office and/or gsuite.

Whether or not people 'want it enough' has very little to do with whether something actually occurs.

  > average user is a little bit annoyed from time to time but not enough to actually care
this part is still true.
cwel··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
This implies that a better version is on offer. It is not. You get the telemetry stuffed, stuttery garbage, and your company pays for it.
cwel··on I can haz smoller NixOS ISOs?
The article does not mention switching kernels. It comments on the size of the kernel + modules; and trimming down unused modules.

Of all the things to get nixpilled over, this isn't one.

cwel··on Migrating from GNU Stow to Chezmoi

  > rsync my entire home directory out to all the laptops
Interesting approach. Whether it could be considered 'better' or not depends on what your 'handful of shell scripts' do.

What was your inspiration for writing this? / What bloat did you shed relative to chezmoi?

I acknowledged this, you quoted it.

Where does 'it' end? Is the subsidiary not operating at the behest of their parent? I need to know when it's safe to no longer be scared.

cwel··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
No worries, I was just confused, and in part was genuinely wondering if there was a vendor that sold xiaomis in the states because I'd buy one.
cwel··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
Apparently, whether or not the engineers are Chinese is the deciding factor. as long as Nicklas Backstrom is designing the EV, its all good. Or in other words, Chinese scary!

Ok I'll bite: what is the obvious thing I'm supposed to be getting from your ellipses?

are you implying there is a US-based, third-party provider of xiaomi devices, BYD cars?

or are you just referring to hosted providers of those AI models?

Not who you are replying to, nor do I agree with their take (no sign of irony, complete lack of self awareness, and just blatantly xenophobic. not suprised by it either). but they did already address this:

cwel··on Linux gaming is faster because Windows APIs are becoming Linux kernel features
> I would sit down to play a game spend maybe an hour or two fixing issues and then after that I ran out of time to play the game

I know you framed this as a negative, but this is something I yearn for; It's the one of the best games, imo. I often wish I ran into more issues, but for the most part, things _just work_^TM.

I can't speak to Halo Infinite, but for SoT that's what worked for me. Another commenter is saying they were able to auth with a passkey (for infinite), which I never tried (for SoT), but id imagine it would work.

Heroic is a launcher aggregate/wrapper I think? for 'Epic, GOG and Amazon Prime Games' It's either Steam, native/standalone or arr for me. for non-steam stuff I use umu.

* I should add that I am launching a steam purchased copy of SoT, not the one from Xbox store/gamepass or what have you, so the process is likely different, but maybe not cus you are likely going to see the same auth popup served via wine/proton.

RE: Sea of Thieves on linux w/ xb/microsoft auth. I was able to work around it by just removing 2fa from my microsoft acc. Obviously not a great solution. but yeah. You may be able to reenable it afterwards, I never tried, its the only thing my microsoft account is useful for at this point anyways.

I was the same way (I suppose I still am since I never deleted the partition), scoop + tailored pwsh profile + 'debloat' tweaks etc. I never really understood any of the popular complaints about Windows/W11 since I always reign my install in.

There is no argument, just vague gesturing toward the grass. I recognized myself in your post.

You also attributed this to "Linux", instead of whatever guided installer/desktop environment you chose. I have never encountered the screens you are lamenting.

Quite the extrapolation from "A group sympathetic to the Iranian government" -> "the Iranian government" especially considering the source: "posts on Telegram and other social media".
