cwe··on Mark Pincus Steps Down From All Operational Roles at Zynga
Announced during an Apple earnings call. Surprise surprise.

EDIT: same time as the earnings, not the actual call. But still.

cwe··on Facebook to remove messaging from core app
Most of the comments here say they only use the FB app for messaging, and they won't install another app. Why is this Messenger app the 'another' one, when the main app clearly doesn't fit your usual use case? I've kept the main app off my phone for well over a year now, and only looked back when Paper came out. Try just having the Messenger app on your phone, no news feed, no ads, no crap. Just messaging, which works incredibly well on a phone that you're already using for lots of messaging.
cwe··on Jony Ive shakes up Apple’s software design group
Jon Rubenstein had plenty of conflict with him (via the Jobs and Ive biographies), and Tony Fadell as well [1].

cwe··on What to do if you're just semi-technical?
I'm pretty similar to the poster, and after majoring in poly sic, spending a few years in sales, have moved in project management with a side of product management. Trying to move more in product, which can sometimes get more technical, or more creative/design depending on the company/product. Great advice.
cwe··on Soylent Update 3/13
where did the commenter say it was immoral?
cwe··on Awesome Netflix/Fitbit Hack Detects When You’ve Fallen Asleep, Auto-Pauses Movie
My wife and I often watch in bed (bad for the circadian, we know) with an iPad, so the accelerometer would work great.
cwe··on Project Tango
This will eventually (hopefully?) get integrated into Glass, and provide that kind of HUD some have been waiting for.
cwe··on Fashion-friendly smart glasses
At this stage in this new product category, the design of the actual glasses is so irrelevant. What matters is how big the required hardware is, the tech specs of said hardware, and the UI/UX within the user's vision. I'd say the UI/UX is the most important factor, since all the physical hardware will change as it advances.

These types of companies are wasting their time trying to design glasses around this tech. There are thousands of different styles of glasses, would probably be easiest if they just partner with Warby Parker or something to make lots of different styles, without all the work of designing them, since as they say in their video they need hardware/software engineering help. Those problems are more critical than glasses design.

cwe··on The “Real World” is depressing me
Man the banner ads on this blog are jarring. Guess he could just live off all the ad revenue that's sure to be rolling in from those, right?
cwe··on Facebook Paper's gesture problems
This solution in this particular case also reduces the wasted space of the hero image across the top. Given FB's poor content, it is usually a stupid meme or some blurry cell-phone pic that was posted 2 days ago. Or maybe that's just my experience so far. But the news across the bottom seems way more useful then the hero image.
cwe··on Apple TV graduates from hobby/accessory to product line ahead of major changes
They just made that feature optional:

cwe··on Architect's Dream House: Less Than 200 Square Feet
The retina iPads are higher resolution, color-calibrated and likely higher quality panels then the big screen you're talking about. And you can easily use high-quality headphones to get quality sound out of them as well. Maybe not surround-sound... yet.
cwe··on New Mac Pro Available for Online Orders
No oxford comma: 'keyboard and mouse' are one entry in the list.
cwe··on Introducing Instagram Direct
Everyone is comparing this to Snapchat or Twitter, but what about FB Messenger? Competing with another Facebook entity, but I guess FB wins either way now?
cwe··on Medium 1.0
Thanks, but I just got the invitation anyways. Excited to try it out!
cwe··on Medium 1.0
If I've already requested access, will that form help me get in sooner?
cwe··on My really successful, unfundable, piece of shit startup I hate to love
Why does he say "really successful" in the title, if it doesn't even break even?

EDIT: Must be the traffic, but these days that's not (that) impressive if there's no revenue model around it. That said, I'd love 6 million users/month.

EDIT 2: downvotes? I guess funding = success still around here, huh?

cwe··on Vybe: the smartest bracelet you will ever wear
$8 is for a band only. To get the little bluetooth vibrating delay you'd need to drop $39.
cwe··on Vybe: the smartest bracelet you will ever wear
Agreed. Getting very sick of products only being explained in a video. Sometimes I can't/don't want to view a video, just tell me, in simple copy, what I'm looking at!
cwe··on OS X 10.9 Mavericks: The Ars Technica Review
In years past there have been reviews of this review, would that count?
cwe··on iPad Air
Considering the battery they need to power that hardware, while getting that battery life, getting it that thin is a big deal.
cwe··on Cue Acquired For Over $40M, Likely By Apple To Compete With Google Now
Check out their website, sure looks like they're shutting down. http://cueup.com
cwe··on HALF of air passengers leave phones on
"While most just forget, the rest think they know better."

And they're clearly correct, as the planes don't crash, no one scolds them for causing delays or equipment to malfunction. The planes take off and land just fine.

cwe··on Meet the NASA scientist devising a starship warp drive
You're arriving before the light arrives, not before it leaves. The light takes a certain amount of time to travel that distance: you take less time, not negative time.
cwe··on Nokia Lumia 1020 packs 41-megapixel camera whopper
Aren't bigger sensors generally better quality when it comes to cameras? 41mp in a tiny sensor is lousy, those pixels need to be big enough to capture quality light.
cwe··on IOS 7 Style Gaussian Blur Tray in CSS3
Could be reduced down to the important bit:

-webkit-filter: blur(8px);

cwe··on Skrollr - parallax scrolling for the masses
Looks nice, but in action it's rather dizzying. It's like the stars move up, then start going back down, then back up again. Very disorienting.
cwe··on Inside the United States
Anyone else get hijacked to some creepy ad page?
cwe··on The Cord-Cutting Fantasy
True, especially since Mad Men ends up on Netflix a few months later.

It's even worse with movies; most you can't rent, and buying them costs as much or more than buying DVD's or Blurays (if you impulse buy on sale, which I always did).

cwe··on The Cord-Cutting Fantasy
AMC is a terrible example for this, because their shows are available on iTunes a la carte right now. I have 'cut the cord' and still get new Mad Men episodes thanks to iTunes. I can directly support the show--not even the network--that I like. That is the cord-cutting ideal. Consumers don't give a shit about networks and their profits, we want the content we like at a reasonable price in a timely fashion.
