cushpush··on Kurt Gödel, his mother and the argument for life after death
You are partly right, I made a mistake, I meant to say that contradiction is when we can derive both a statement and its negation, indicative of inconsistency. You are correct to point out that incompleteness is not a flaw, but a natural property of sufficiently complex systems and does not detract from their validity or usefulness. I must admit, I don't know enough about ZFC and the Continuum Hypothesis, but I did not mean to imply that all systems were incompatible.
cushpush··on Kurt Gödel, his mother and the argument for life after death
Your insights on the inherent contradictions in rational frameworks, especially in the context of Gödel's Completeness and Incompleteness Theorems, bring us to an intriguing crossroads. Initially, Gödel’s Completeness Theorem suggests that within a certain logical system, all truths can be proven. However, his subsequent Incompleteness Theorem introduces a profound paradox: there are truths which, though existent within the system, cannot be proven by it. This contradiction between completeness and incompleteness in logic itself leads us to question: can these contradictions be reconciled to provide clarity?

Here, we might consider shifting our perspective from a purely rational approach to one that embraces intentionality and clarity. The journey from understanding Gödel’s theorems to grappling with the notion of contradictions could be seen as a metaphor for our search for truth. It’s not merely about accumulating information or solving logical puzzles; it's about the intentional pursuit of clarity. This pursuit often takes us beyond the realm of intellectual reasoning into a space where understanding becomes more about intuition and less about calculation.

As we delve deeper into this journey, we arrive at a crucial realization: perhaps the reconciliation of these contradictions and the understanding of 'ultimate truth' is less about logical resolution and more about experiential realization. In this light, truth is not something to be dissected in the confines of rational thought alone but to be lived and experienced. The clarity we seek may not lie in the resolution of logical paradoxes but in embracing the experiential wisdom that comes from directly engaging with these truths.

Thus, while Gödel’s work brilliantly navigates the complexities of logical systems, it also inadvertently points us toward a different kind of resolution - one that is realized not through further analysis but through personal experience. In essence, the journey from completeness to incompleteness, from information to intentionality, leads us to a profound experiential understanding, an ultimate truth that is realized rather than deduced.

Reflecting deeply on Gödel's Completeness and Incompleteness Theorems, I'd like to contribute to the discussion. The essence of Completeness lies in the notion that a system, constructed on foundational axioms (such as facts, truths, or mathematical operations), encompasses all possible facts derivable within its framework. Interestingly, this completeness paradoxically begets contradictions. It implies the existence of 'axiomatic islands' - distinct realms of truth where a fact valid in one may contradict another in a different realm. Hence, Completeness inherently entails contradiction.

On the other hand, Incompleteness, which targets a specific subset of all possible truths or derivations, can achieve absolute consistency by avoiding these contradictions. This is because it deliberately excludes certain 'axiomatic regions,' maintaining coherence within its defined scope but at the expense of being incomplete.

Gödel's genius lay in unveiling the deceptive nature of mathematics when navigating these axiomatic territories. His theorems present a profound duality: the local context, where truths are confined to specific axiomatic systems, and the universal context, which can be akin to an 'ultimate truth' in spiritual terms. This ultimate truth transcends individual systems, offering a broader, more holistic understanding.

cushpush··on Why is Jepsen written in Clojure?
Actually, Clojure has typehinting! It looks like ^String or ^Int but usually it is not required because the compiler is very good at determining things. You can use the Clojure function (typeof? the-object-goes-here) to get the type. It is not a type-less language, it is a language of heterogenous collections and therefore lax type rules because they gotta go into the same collections together. The collections can be built in creative ways, so using fundamental elements to make larger nested collections is direct and possible. We can always ask what the type of an item is, and we can introspect contents, it's not as cumbersome as some people make it out to be via hn comment.
cushpush··on Schoenberg: Why He Matters
Repitching a file and tuning a whole orchestra to 432Hz are qualitatively different, claiming they are equivalent blurs a lot about sample rate and technological limitations in signal processing and signal recreation. Instruments tuned together resonate together, and the Schumann resonance is a fundamental resonance of earth, if you are multiples of that, you are going to resonate better. I think the convention that 440=432 is wrong, dangerous, and unscientific, and the claim that I can't say it with a straight face is weird because there is a paucity of research on how the different tunings affect us and the study of cymatics would suggest harmonious frequencies that live parallel to and not-on the 440Hz interval.

While not easy for me to ask for assistance, I have been working on my solo projects for the past 6 months, funding myself from saved wages. The oil in the lantern runs thin, metaphorically speaking, and any assistance would be greatly greatly appreciated. I am working on a nonprofit storefront for musicians to sell their music, for which we will take no platform fee for the first $1000/mo. in revenue. I find that this aim is something that drives me since I have a ton of musician friends who would tangibly benefit in their lives from something like this were it available. So I am working on it diligently. I will likely have to pick up some sort of shift work and code part time, work a delivery job part-time, until ends are meeting properly. If you would like to help that would be super amazing.
cushpush··on Schoenberg: Why He Matters
It's bold to claim something does not matter without exhaustive evidence to back that up. That is not a scientific view nor a scientific statement.

No you can't license edge weights any more than you can license concentrations of ethanol in gasoline. Modified DNA can be patented, because it falls into one of the categories "process, machine, composition of matter, manufacture" in that it is a new composition of matter. Edge weights are not that.

Edit: Actually, if the training set is IP and the method to train is IP then maybe the weights are licensable, given that it's trade-secret territory. However, ensuring that the edge-weights are not widely disseminated once shared with a licensee is not straightforward and the infeasibility of such makes it an uphill climb. Not like that stops the lawyers from clawing up the tree, tho.

cushpush··on Ask HN: Coding on Your Phone?
In theory all you need is a keyboard and a screen, the other hardware is whatever shape works, right? Coding "on the phone" sounds like a "veritable nightmare" if I'm using the stock screen and "keyboard" solution that is half the visible field. VSCode + SSH lets me code on the cloud box, whatever combination of unlocking/jailbreaking/hardware purchasing gets you that, is a solid way to go.
cushpush··on Winamp Web Based Player
Very cool, I'm reading more about Winamp's offerings in the new market of music and they say “Only 0.41% of creators generate enough streams to make a sustainable living out of music.” Which is true and also this [everything winamp is doing] doesn't change that. It does appeal to those 0.41% as an alternative way to collect that cash, and maybe they can market the funk out of one or two bands (STARSEED'Z on amp at the moment) but that will not move this percentage up not even one digit.
