ctack··on The economics of vending machines
You’re sourcing the location.
ctack··on Japan on Track to Introduce Flying Taxi Services in 2023
Drag? It would be like dragging an anchor once you start moving horizontally. Also, wind.
ctack··on NSA Owns Everything (2015)
Him being there makes Russia look more tolerant than his home country.. Which is already a Pretty big bonus.
ctack··on How you 'attach' to people may explain a lot about your inner life
Can you elaborate on identifying the various parts that push against each other? What are these parts? Voices or something more subtle like desires or aversions?

As an aside, based on various therapies I’ve worked out my method of emotional acceptance of past events and traumas which has and is helping me to accept and integrate them, but it still feels crude. I catch any strong emotion and then observe it and allow it and accept it. Sometimes it’s tied to a seemingly trivial memory(my mind trick is that the memory is not actually trivial) which I can look at and integrate and accept as well.

ctack··on Ask HN: What weird or hard problems are you trying to solve?
The resort finding part seems representable as a table where worst to best overlap(including dynamic weather forecast part) is displayed in a color spectrum, sort of like a many circled ven diagram. Send an email for firetool at protonmail dot com if you’re interested and have the info you’ve described(minus the weather api) tabulated. I’d be happy to cook demo up a form and grid.
ctack··on How to implement search-by-color when all you have is a good coffee
It's trying to say that you don't need a lot of time to do this.

I literally skimmed the article while drinking a coffee.

ctack··on Emptier US roads more lethal in coronavirus pandemic, report says
I've noticed that people are driving a lot faster on the emptier roads.
ctack··on Iyashikei: Japan’s Genre of “Healing Games” (2018)
I enjoyed a video a few years ago which I think falls into the genre. It’s called Cat Soup. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_Soup
ctack··on Age Reduction Breakthrough?
I read that as four per rejuvenation with no word about how often a rejuvenation would be needed.
ctack··on The Baloney Detection Kit: Carl Sagan’s Rules for Critical Thinking
I read the Demon Haunted World by mistake a long time ago and it really challenged my belief system at the time. But then little by little it won me over.

Not without damage in the form of missed education opportunities, I managed to overcome a lot of the bullshit magical thinking that had managed to cloud my thoughts in my teens and early 20s.

It's interesting to me, just today I've been respectfully challenging a friend for their belief in some or other Covid conspiracy. After some introspection, I realised that the ire this raised in me and which I was directing at my friend, was actually anger at my young self for the years "lost" in the form of education not pursued.

What a day.

ctack··on Photos Show the Staggering Food Bank Lines Across America
It's striking to see people queuing in cars.
ctack··on We could soon be harvesting anti-viral antibodies from tobacco plants
Where on a map will I find the Dominican Republic of the Congo?
ctack··on After 50 years of effort, researchers made silicon emit light
Really not sure this is the correct way to think about it, but if the silicon is now transparent and parts of it are emitting light, how is the focus limited / controlled ie. how does a receiver know from emitter it should be receiving from?
ctack··on A music discovery site used in over 1M videos and games
For any musicians that contribute to this, what is the motive at play here? The joy of creating > need for profit? Getting your name in the title?
ctack··on People are planting more vegetable gardens
Being in lockdown has enabled me to really focus on our vegetable garden this year. Am even getting into weeding which is not normally something I enjoy.
ctack··on Zoom is being looked at by New York AG for privacy practices
Seems like they're being unfairly picked on, but it makes sense that they're under the spotlight. They're a massive a player at the moment. As a long time user, I do wish them the best, but it's good to know that if they're doing things right.

And as the old saw goes: "With great power... "

ctack··on Handbook of Covid-19 Prevention and Treatment from Hospital with 0% fatality [pdf]
From GP's linked comment:

"9. Lung clearance is a standard means to treat serious lung conditions and keep airways open. A simple means to do this is stand in the shower with your feet about shoulder width apart, bend over as far as you can and cough hard."

ctack··on The Longest Record Broken: Gold/Silver Ratio Hits Highest in Over 5,000 Years
How is breaking the 1940 not more accurate?
ctack··on The Longest Record Broken: Gold/Silver Ratio Hits Highest in Over 5,000 Years
It's the highest it's been since the 1940s. Sensationalist headline.
ctack··on Microsoft Teams goes down just as Europe logs on to work remotely
COVID-19 is going to be global scale proof of work for remote work - both for companies and for networks.
ctack··on Apple engineer killed in Tesla crash had previously complained about autopilot

Exactly my thoughts when reading about the blended wing aeroplane, yesterday.

ctack··on Costco Capitalism

ctack··on Hyundai and Uber Unveil Autonomous Pods, EVTOL Aircraft, & Hub Ecosystem at CES
I think it’s to keep a horse in the race.
ctack··on Hyundai and Uber Unveil Autonomous Pods, EVTOL Aircraft, & Hub Ecosystem at CES
Regulation is something autonomous vehicles will deal with a lot better than human pilots.
ctack··on Hyundai and Uber Unveil Autonomous Pods, EVTOL Aircraft, & Hub Ecosystem at CES
Uber is aiming to be a big player in the future autonomous space, but seeing how difficult a problem level 5 autonomy is proving for cars, they are looking at the sky taxi thing instead because autonomy is going to be actually achievable in that space.
ctack··on SmugMug emails subscribers with request to find more paying users
Someone from Hetzner sales team is going to be giving them a call soon. At least I hope so.

They'll classify how people move and join that with profiles they've already created on Facebook.

They'll try to figure out if you have any kind of disability.

ctack··on I stood up to my boss, then he got promoted
Spot on. I have to wait for the actual feedback and suggestions which to my managers credit are often useful and insightful and on point. But what precedes the feedback can be mind numbing.
