ct520··on 73% Of Inmates At An Ohio Prison Test Positive For Coronavirus. 0 deaths so far
welp - that didnt last long.
ct520··on AMD’s Mobile Revival: Redefining the Notebook Business with the Ryzen 9 4900HS
I personally have never seen a "windows" developer do any development work on a windows laptop (I see they have visual studio etc installed). Unless you counting documentation / requirements. I have seen a lot of ix devs and osx developers develop on their laptops. I work as a consultant in big enterprise world and with many startups on a range of projects.
ct520··on Homelab: Intel NUC with the ESXi Hypervisor
I got a NUC8i7BEH with ESXI. Works great, run dev lab out of it publicly facing vlan'd off on my home fiber.

Only negative I ran into is - I bought the bigger one with NVME and regular SSD. I couldnt fit a SSD in with NVME with heatsink :-/ Besides that this thing is snappy and uptime been perfect.

ct520··on Vue 3 Beta
Correct. Most of my projects now and days are under 300hrs greenfield stuff. I do feel typescript can be a little more overhead to get started, once you have some well established patterns IMO its great for more enterprisey projects.
ct520··on Vue 3 Beta
Correct. Small project turns into a bigger project, I think I can get through some complicated piece and BAM. I'm fighting silly typing issues and writing tests for stuff I would never have to do if I used typescript. While majority of my stuff is not that complicated, it seems there is always something.

I also wear a bunch of hats. So retaining all the new knowledge gets a bit hard. Sometimes its easier for me to fall back to patterns I used over the past 20 years of full stack development. If I had the time I would use typescript everywhere.

ct520··on Vue 3 Beta
I recommend it. I dont use it because I dont think I need it. I think mostly because I fall back into old patterns that are easier for me to do. I got burned a bit with original build system having to create all my interfaces etc.
ct520··on AMD’s Mobile Revival: Redefining the Notebook Business with the Ryzen 9 4900HS
Yeah I had a company issued 2019 top of the line xps 15. It replaced top of the line HP 5 years back. I would commute a lot and bring my macbook to use in place of the dell. I would dual boot i. I only take out the XPS to get on vpn :-/
ct520··on AMD’s Mobile Revival: Redefining the Notebook Business with the Ryzen 9 4900HS
Interesting. I'm not stuck on OSX ecosystem as much as you but certain things do turn me off. I'm really in love with the trackpad and for the most part overall build quality. (my daily is still a macbook pro retina late 2013). I would love to make jump to linux but traditionally battery life the hardware options i have not been in love with. :(
ct520··on AMD’s Mobile Revival: Redefining the Notebook Business with the Ryzen 9 4900HS
I'm was making an assertion that I feel that a lot of people will buy apple while having a substandard product in some aspects. Because overall it has the "package" When i refer to "many of us" I was talking about startups/developer community maybe not super enterprise-y like a Freddie or Fannie/ BofA etc.

"Why is that?" was a question. I answered it for me, but I was wondering for others. That may buy a macbook over something with arguably notebooks with better cpus / configuration. Why are they doing it?

AMD has a great processor, what they need is a great platform. I hope Microsoft partnership they have pushes them forward. Because I'm tired of buying intel macbooks/notebooks

ct520··on AMD’s Mobile Revival: Redefining the Notebook Business with the Ryzen 9 4900HS
And yet many of us will still buy the next macbook pro 13inch refresh when it comes out with a "good keyboard" and a substandard processor. Why is that? For me - its the total package. The software/the hardware/integrations that just work/the arguably best track pad in the industry.

CPU is one piece to the puzzle. I read on the message board to unlock the top tier AMD mobile processors you had to guarantee it wouldn't be paired with other crap hardware like vendors done in the past. We will see - hopefully next microsoft refresh breaks this trend for amd.

ct520··on Vue 3 Beta
I adopted typescript shortly after it’s release and went through growing pains in the first couple years. I don’t use it often now. And it ALWAYS comes back to bite me in the butt when doing any decent sized project. If I had to guess time spent fixing things that would have been caught out weights the cons of using typescript
ct520··on New iPhone SE
I feel in good company. Here I thought I was the only one who longed-for the smaller iphone.
ct520··on As YouTube traffic soars, YouTubers say pay is plummeting
"When companies struggle the first thing they tend to pull is advertising." ... And the huge local facebook advertising uptick I see says otherwise?
ct520··on Nasty macOS flaw is bricking MacBooks: Don't install this update
I agree. From the modding days bricked always ment hardware hack was required.. I have the same gripe about how the word is used now. Glad to see it’s not just me
ct520··on We abused Slack's TURN servers to gain access to internal services
Not so much networking protocols but WebRTC maybe? I did a hello world type of implementation of WEBRTC awhile back and it made perfect sense to me.
ct520··on Ask HN: Is HN Dead?
Rationalizing this comment with my own experiences. Me: Asking old friend meet up for happy hour at bar. Friend: Sorry man, I can't my wife wont let me. Me: You're dead to me! Proof that things can change and they can be dead to someone. /me drops mic.

Serious note though, I agree I think things have evolved. I still like the content, its just a bit different.

likewise I used mine daily up until a couple months ago without issue. my leather cups are TOAST. Where did you get your replacement cups from?
ct520··on Show HN: Pdf.js Express – PDF annotation, e-signatures, and form filling
yeah, main things are tracking overlay collision, groups like radio buttons, where you start your measurements from top left or bottom, dpi, and zoom levels. built systems for it using itext and websupergoo abcpdf. (backend for manipulating pdfs, tamper sealing etc.) and front end uses a image of the rendered pdf page that was extracted. This is a bit different from pdfjs but also scales well. PS pdf standards suck. :(
ct520··on Show HN: Pdf.js Express – PDF annotation, e-signatures, and form filling
Ahh gotcha. This should still be straight forward. Just don’t know of a generic format to export overlays/cordinates.

Everyone has a opinion on how this should be done and measured and there are different standards for pdf libraries and print etc. not complicated though.

ct520··on Show HN: Pdf.js Express – PDF annotation, e-signatures, and form filling
I almost feel like this should be a product that integrates with industry leading API's and be licensed as a better white label, then get those enterprises into maintenance contract. Lot of companies I have spoken to want to "own" the process all the way through and create a seamless "in their portal experience" for interacting with PDFS. (tagging/signing/SSO/workflow etc)
ct520··on Show HN: Pdf.js Express – PDF annotation, e-signatures, and form filling
What's preventing this being done with a ipad, pencil, and a myriad of pdf viewer/markup apps out there?
ct520··on Show HN: Pdf.js Express – PDF annotation, e-signatures, and form filling
I agree. As a person with direct experience building and leading top industry products in this field. It feels.. off. Signatures are one thing, but being ESIGN and UETA compliant is another. It's hard for me to in vision the niche this is fulfilling as it does more then pdfjs but not enough IMO to warrant buying/licensing it.
ct520··on I had to build a web scraper to buy groceries
I couldnt find an appointment slot with safeway this past week. Ended up writing a quick script on lunch that did the trick. Ran it as a schedule task to run every 5 mins. Pretty hacky and unpolished but worked, got a text message a day later and checked out. Not sure if anyone could use it but here it is. https://github.com/christru/safeway-delivery-check

ct520··on The EARN IT Bill Is the Government’s Plan to Scan Every Message Online
You mean the same government that fly's sting rays around? Gets illegal pings on cell phones from service providers? The government that put warrant-less tracking devices on cars? Nah - that government is cool bro. They definitely have our best interest in mind.
ct520··on The EARN IT Bill Is the Government’s Plan to Scan Every Message Online
I know right.. The average user didnt care about patriot act when it was introduced, slowly little by little government is taking away our rights :(

“As far as one knows or can see, arizona does not care to test the general public?” I missed the question mark in my haste. It was a question.
