css771··on Show HN: After a couple of months playing with the Reddit API, I built this...
Great work. Like it. I can see myself using this on slow days. Did you post this to reddit?

btw,

> FlipMeme let's you browse images posted on Imgur & Reddit

Should be "Lets", no apostrophe. Being a reddit oriented site, gotta take more care. Else the grammar nazis gonna get y'all.

css771··on The iPhone 5
What's this. Gruber complaining that he can't reach the edges of an iPhone display? I never thought I'd see the day.

He even admits there were some people who couldn't even use 3.5" displays one handed. Is the Apple kool-aid wearing off?

css771··on Google rejects White House request to pull Mohammad film clip
I'm surprised I had to scroll this far down for a link to the video. Thanks.
css771··on Apple iPhone 5 US Carrier Comparison Chart
Why not? Is there a difference in the actual chip? I thought it was just a trimming of the plastic around the chip.
css771··on WhatsApp is broken, really broken
That has changed recently. With the recent Angry Birds Space, they have a 'premium' option for 0.99 and it has a healthy 500,000-1,000,000 downloads.
css771··on Steve Wozniak on Samsung patent verdict: ‘I hate it and I don’t agree with it’
Samsung may have copied the shapes and a few gestures like slide to unlock with the original galaxy s. But anyone who claims that it gave them a market advantage is being disingenuous.

Woz has always been rational about stuff and what he says. I hope the verdict gets overturned.

css771··on Chrome Killed UserScripts.org
What's the big deal here? Anybody who wants to install other extensions can still do so. How often do you install extensions from other sources anyway? I think this is a good solution to the problem.
css771··on iPhone 5
It's the same principle and you're using it to suppport your subjective claims as fact.
css771··on iPhone 5
> if an overwhelming number of reasonable people agree with something you can comfortably assert it

So you're saying even if the majority is wrong, they're always right?

css771··on HP introduces new Apple iMac
In my opinion, the computer itself looks nothing like an imac. The keyboard, and touchpad however, do look exactly like Apple's equivalent products.
css771··on Integrity and bullies with blogs
The Verge is the best tech site out there. This type of "Higher moral ground" trolling from Marco and Gruber is absolutely unacceptable.
css771··on Kindle Fire HD 8.9 vs. iPad 3: Is the Apple Experience really worth $200?
Link to some of these reviews?
css771··on Nokia’s Visionary Wants to Out-Design Apple
The discoverability thing was maybe valid on Gingerbread and below. But with ICS and above, the widgets are integrated into the app drawer, and there should be no discoverability concerns.
css771··on Galaxy S III beats out iPhone 4S as top selling device in US
The Nexus devices are generally the most open of all Android devices. Consequently, there's a Firefox OS port, in alpha right now, for the Galaxy Nexus. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805282

Many Android phones can also run various other distros using chroot.

css771··on Windows 8 productivity: Who moved my cheese? Oh, there it is.
That's all fine for Microsoft's business strategy? But what does Win8 bring to the table for me, the consumer, that I couldn't have already gotten by using an 3rd party app on win7/xp?
css771··on I can't make this stuff up
Except that the vast majority of Android devices are not bootloader locked (Almost all samsung phones are sold unlocked, HTC provides an after-market unlock tool for most phones, Motorola recently started doing so). Besides, even if an Android phone is bootloader locked, you can actually do more on it than on an iphone.

And also, you dont have to contribute patches back to aosp to appreciate software freedom. How about building and running your own kernel on your phone. Is that something you would be interested in? Most Android phones can do that.

css771··on Thinking This iPad Mini Thing Even Througher
Oh yes anandtech is the best review site out there. But I specifically meant analysis of various factors and breaking down rumors, long-term trends, stuff like that.
css771··on Thinking This iPad Mini Thing Even Througher
This was a very good piece from gruber and I say that as someone who has consistently hated his snarkiness and apple fanboyism in the past. He makes deep analyses of the ipad mini here and dare I say, sets himself apart as a key asset in the Apple tech press. There should be someone as capable of doing in-depth analyses in other tech fields too. I was thinking specifically about android device news. The folks at androidpolice are the best I know. But not of Gruber's calibre.
css771··on College was my biggest mistake
OP, you are my inspiration from now on. I'm in a very similar situation. And you've just given me some hope. And thanks for that. I'll strive to teach myself more stuff.
css771··on Apple's Secrets Revealed During Trial
True but there are multiple ways of doing something. So after thinking about an idea, finding the easiest way to implement it is also a task in itself.
css771··on HTC’s Android dream in tatters as HTC One sales disappoint
The apple comparison can't really be made on the android side because the apple brand is a very strong one. iPhones can sell based on brand alone whereas HTC can't really rely on that.

I think for the first in a series like the HTC One to really take off, it has to appeal to the early adopters and those are the geeks surely. And then if they like it, they'll recommend it to their friends. If you build up some diehard fans, surely it will be better to iterate ensuring the relative success of a HTC One X successor.

css771··on HTC’s Android dream in tatters as HTC One sales disappoint
I think HTC is failing more because they've failed to understand what consumers want. The HTC One X was an incredible phone but they went with a non-removable battery that significantly held it back compared to the Galaxy S3. The locked bootloader on the ATT One X was just too bad. And for all their touting of the camera, the Galaxy S3 has the better one. The silly decision to implement aggressive process killing was just stupid. And for some people, no sdcard option didn't cut it.

And no these aren't just features geeks would want, even if they are, geeks influence buying decisions of a lot of people. So they're definitely important. Especially at a time when HTC wants to build up a strong brand with their One series. And for all their trumpeting that they would release only flagship devices, they keep releasing phones all the time. And they fail to release their devices with a consistent branding across all american carriers, or at the same time.

HTC Sense adds no features (like e.g. a notification power control widget like samsung's touchwiz has.) It's just too bloated.

Plus it's just be the fact that the mobile industry is incredibly competitive right now. I don't imagine HTC will have any better luck with WP7/8.

css771··on Quick Nexus 7 Comments By Linus Torvalds
It's a nexus 7. The Galaxy Nexus is a phone.
css771··on What Makes Android Revolutionary
You can think whatever you want. Fact is fact.
css771··on What Makes Android Revolutionary
Incorrect. That image is banded around just to serve a particular viewpoint. There was already a capacitive touchscreen android device in the prototype stages at the same time. Look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v...
