cseelus··on The new MacBook
Very interesting device overall, might replace my Air.

The resolution seems quite low though. 2304x1440 at 226 ppi might sound not too bad, but straight pixel doubling would yield a pretty small screen real estate of 1152x720 in terms of logical pixels.

cseelus··on Sitting for too long can kill you, even if you exercise
So what are good measures for people that need to work in front of a computer, like to read a lot, etc. to avoid/minimize that risks?

So far I know of:

- Getting a standing desk (which is no alternative suitable for everyone)

- Walking around/exercise every ~30 minutes for a short while

cseelus··on Show HN: Artful for Mac
Really a nice, educational idea.

Just bought it and stumbled over a minor thing: UTF8 support for the artists name would be great (e.g. Albrecht Durer -> Albrecht Dürer).

As a Mac (since 10.4 Tiger) and iPhone User I'm under the impression that the overall quality of Apples Software has declined in the last one or two years.
cseelus··on Uber Executive Suggests Digging Up Dirt on Journalists
Publicly considering such STASI tactics for me is the last nail in the coffin, I'll never use a product of this strange company. (I'm from Germany, maybe we are more sensitive to such threats)

cseelus··on Mac Menu Bars
Yes Bartender really gives you back your clean menubar and enables you to regain control over it. Here is mine: http://cl.ly/image/0s0U2V0B000m

I really don't like the approach of some OSX developers to ignore Apples Interface guidelines regarding the menubar, either accidentally or at will, maybe to elevate their apps inside the menubar with colored icons.

cseelus··on Shazam for Mac
Personally I would never allow any app to use my microphone all the time, effectively being able to monitor a certain area around the device it is running on all the time. This is gross.

This is all the more true for an app from a company that did transfer sensitive user data to third parties in the past.[0]

In Germany, under certain circumstances, it is also illegal to make sound recordings of persons without their knowledge.[1] This might be the case in other jurisdictions too.

cseelus··on Google on Glass Backlash: 'Messy' But Worth It
I thing what people bugs most about Glass is the fear to be taped all the time without consent and without even noticing it. Glass should be clearly signaling when its filming/streaming via a hardwired LED or something, so that it is obvious when someone is filming and when not.

Yeah, thought that too. Some approximation on calories and macronutrients would be really great.

This would definitely serve the huge market of folks who track their daily intake:

  - People who (have to) do it for medical reasons
  - People that want to loose weight and need to get a better understanding of what exactly they are eating every day (often times it is not enough or the ratio of macronutrients is out of place)
  - Nearly every bodybuilder and fitness-addict
cseelus··on Company with zero revenue and one employee currently worth 3.8B
I'm no investor and don't plan to invest for the foreseeable future, but out of curiosity:

Wouldn't it theoretically make sense to go short on something so obviously bloated?

This really reminds me of an essay called "Manna" from Marshall Brain (which may already be known to a large number of HN readers).

cseelus··on Jekyll 2.0.0 is released
As a rails dev i can confirm this.

Jekyll always felt a little bit cumbersome when you are used to all the Rails goodies like sprockets.

Since I discovered the middleman-deploy[1] gem, I also use it for my Github Pages, without any additional effort.

cseelus··on The latest chapter for the self-driving car: mastering city street driving
Apparently Mercedes Benz has come quite far regarding autonomous driving.

In September 2013 they let one of their S-Class models drive the historic route from Mannheim to Pforzheim in Germany with some journalist(s) on board[1].

On this route the worlds first long-distance (194km/121mi) ride in a motorized car was undertaken in 1888 by Bertha Benz, wife of Carl Benz, who developed, what is known today as the worlds first modern automobile.[2]

This route contains interurban as well as urban parts. The prototype car nicknamed "Bertha" is not easily recognizable from a standard S-Class model, which already contains most of the systems necessary to enable autonomous driving.

cseelus··on iOS 7.1 Mobile Safari Minimal UI
From the source: "It’s not appropriate for every web page, but it’s great for image galleries and web-sites that mimic mobile apps."

For window management i love Moom, as it integrates really well with OSX.

To add more gestures for my touchpad (like TipTap-Left to switch tabs in every application that has them) I use Better Touch Tool.

cseelus··on CMS Trap
I had LocomotiveCMS on my radar for quite a while as it looked very promising, but lost track as development staggered for a year or so. Do you use their hosted solution or do you host it on your own servers? Do you have any information if the version on Github[1] differs in significant ways from the hosted solution? It seems like they are really pushing the hosted solution now, their website doesn't make it very clear that you can install it by yourself too.
