I’ve been doing the job hunt grind since being laid off in early December. If my initial phone screen is with a recruiter it’s usually 15 to 20 minutes. They usually just reconfirm what’s on my resume and validate I can legally work in the US. If my initial screen is with a hiring manager it’s always been over 45 minutes long. One screen I had which was over zoom, mind you I had no prior contact with anyone at this company other than applying to a job posting, turned into a technical interview that went on for over an hour and the call had been scheduled for only 30 minutes, that was fun…
If you have an Nvida card you could use Nvidia broadcast. It runs as a virtual microphone that other apps can target as the voice input. So Nvidia broadcast will receive the raw input from your real microphone, process it, and feed it to any applications that are targeting the Nvidia broadcast mic as their voice input. It also doesn't appear to add any noticeable latency.
Just played through all the levels of Red Remover. Those were fun. Kudos to your son for not just making games but sharing them. At 14 I was just grinding away at World of Warcraft... didn't even touch programming or making games myself until I was in college.
Just want to point out that adults can be just as cruel or even crueler than children with just as little empathy. I don't believe or buy the idea that it just a kid thing. We live in this myth that adults are more mature but interacting with society dispels that myth drastically quick, in my experience.
Given that every grandparent I know who is in their 50s or 60s are also still working full-time in the US midwest, grandparents aren't always an easy win. My mother would love to spend more time with my son but her job and her health make that an impossibility unfortunately.
Debit cards in the US are still mostly swipe + PIN or chip. With the ATM there's daily limits of withdrawal amount but that's it. Maybe some issuers have a 2FA feature but none of the banks I've used have.
I have a family member who exclusively drinks water from plastic bottles, at home. Does not trust the tap water nor even when it's filtered through the refrigerator. Yes they know the water in the bottle is also tap water, doesn't stop them.
My High School which was a fairly well funded public High School in Illinois, US hadn't upgraded their shop equipment since the 80s really it felt like. We had wood tools, saws, the basics only. The coolest thing we had was a smelting forge, but students weren't allowed to use it due to safety concerns. This was in the late 2000s.
I can’t stand hot drinks of any sort except like hot chocolate in the winter. While iced coffee mostly hits the spot for a cold coffee, cold brew is a nice change every one in a while. So I’m glad the fad here even if the flavor isn’t as great as it could have been hot.
Wanted to share a personal project I've been working on using ODM.
I'm mostly on a weekly basis capturing the progress of my home as it is built. I have a DJI Mini 2 and using Dronelink to create the missions. I was originally using DJI Flight Planner + Litchi but it's paths it was generating for the area I wanted to cover wasn't great and it forced my gimble to look straight down, I'm sure Litchi may have let me adjust that somewhere but I couldn't figure it out. I had 85% overlap but even with that, as the house started getting built ODM seemed to be unable to generate point cloud points for some of the walls thus resulting in large holes in the geometry. I switched to Dronelink which overall has been a much more user-friendly experience for the mission planning and it lets me control the gimbal angle. While my photo clarity isn't as great as now, my drone doesn't stop for each photo, having my camera angled slightly throughout the mission has greatly reduced the missing geometry in the outputted model. I've been very pleased with ODM thus far though the amount of settings in WebODM have been overwhelming and I've settled on just using the Default as it seems the best at giving me decent 3D geometry that is compressible in a GLTF format.
It may be that it’s more of the defacto to the casual audiences. I’ve heard of and have used OBS many times for streaming and screen recording. Never heard of the other solutions you listed and never felt the need to search for alternatives as OBS and it’s reskins satisfied my needs and as a casual person to the streaming community the only program I had heard of to use was OBS.
Cancelling student debt would only be rewarding irresponsible behavior of the US government by relieving the pressure to change how loans are issued in the first place. The news/ press would mostly stop reporting about it once the initial loans are forgiven since there'd be no pressure anymore to fix the root of the problem which is issuing non-dischargeable unsecured loans in the 10s of to 100s of thousands of dollars. The US allowed those non-dischargeable loans to be issued in the first place with little to no way of knowing if the value provided by the student's desired educational program justified the price it was billing. Students may bare some responsibility here but expecting all 18 year olds who have gone through the traditional US education system to have any resemblance of financial literacy is asking a lot given there seems to be no focus on requiring income management, retirement savings, and debt awareness classes in any US High School tract.
What I'm trying to say ultimately is in my opinion most High School graduates are to naive to actually realize how bad of deal they may be getting themselves into and the US government is actively encouraging that reckless behavior by allowing these federal loans to be issued.
Anecdotal, purely in my personal experience I have never once ever had Apple Music crash on any of my devices. This is across multiple generations of MacBooks, iPhone, and including CarPlay. Nor have I ever had it just stop playing music. Strange.
Problem is with 100% code coverage of badly guarded / implemented code you'll have a fall sense of security if you're just looking at coverage as the metric of quality. Anytime I've worked with a company who had a required code coverage percent, they never actually cared what the code being covered looked like only that it was covered in some test.
Another fun fact of Illinois protecting its citizens with that law is that schools like DePaul and Northwestern are currently being sued for violating Illinois' biometric laws with the use of facial recognizing proctoring software.
It's a way to end a statement that you feel so strongly about that you're indicating to others no amount of arguing or talking with change your opinion on it. Your mind's made up and you believe in that statement so strongly that you believe it to be unequivocally universally true.
This is actually probably good. My wife has a hyphen in her first name and the amount of government systems including Social Security itself will most of the time result in some validation error when the hyphen is included and it even adds confusion for employees when in an office and their ancient software doesn't even result in an error, it'll just straight up not work and not give them any context on what could be wrong.
If you're looking for a good 3D engine that is open source there's https://o3de.org/ which is now part of the Linux Foundation and based off of Amazon's Lumberyard game engine
(USA centric view) You cannot legislate parents into being good parents. You cannot pass laws that protect children from bad parenting as best case result you may get the state to intervene and put the child in a foster system where there's a 50% chance that they end up in an even worse place.
I know you're getting downvoted but I was hoping to get more context around the ownership situation of specifically Credit Karma Tax? Are there articles anywhere discussing how it will be spun off from CK or will it stay within their services just run by a different company?
I would hazard definitely given how rampant online game cheating is across competitive shooters. People give grief to Blizzard, Steam, etc for their overzealous methods of detecting cheats and possibly increasing the vulnerabilities of your own machine but without some form of way to ban or detect cheats competitive online gaming would be a dead market. It's a cat vs mouse market and I know back when I was playing WoW every day there was a huge market for buying bots to harvest in-game resources and fishing.
Tesla cars have a distinct look and a "prestige" whereas something like Ford's new F-150 will look nearly identical to its gas guzzling brother. There's an ego carried behind Telsa's branding and marketing that other car manufacturers don't feed into even in their own EV offerings.
