crispytx··on Intel made smart glasses that look normal
Did I say something offensive to cyborgs? My bad. Cyborgs are people too, well sort of...
crispytx··on Intel made smart glasses that look normal
I'd like to clarify, tech is great and all, but I don't want to become a fucking cyborg. What the hell is wrong with these people?
crispytx··on Intel made smart glasses that look normal
"uses retinal projection to put a display in your eyeball..."

That sounds awful! Like some shit from Black Mirror! Jesus, Fuck!

crispytx··on Dancing mania
Sounds fucking lit!
crispytx··on Ask HN: What is something like cpanel but works well on a $5 VPS?
I really miss using cPanel. Now I just roll with an FTP client (FileZilla) and use phpMyAdmin for my MySQL server.
crispytx··on Why we transitioned from Medium back to our own blog
No shit??? I started my Medium blog last year and have a custom domain. Why do you suppose they are getting rid of their best feature? Who the hell is going to want to host their blog on someone else's domain??? WTF?
crispytx··on Netflix is now worth more than $100B
I think one of the big problems is that most people's retirement money gets pumped into the stock market to purchase shares on the SECONDARY market. When people buy shares on the secondary market, companies never see any of that money. But when companies sell shares directly to the public through the primary capital markets, that money can be invested to produce NEW goods and services which create economic GROWTH. The whole point of a stock market is for companies to raise money from the public to produce new goods and services and generate economic growth, but in reality companies are doing very little of this. In fact, they often do the OPPOSITE! Instead of raising capital by issuing new shares, companies burn their earnings buying back existing shares from the public. It's insane! Economists in the future will look back in amazement and wonder how we could have possibly been so stupid.
crispytx··on Bitcoin.org removes “fast” and “low fees” from Bitcoin description page
And furthermore, that shit is going to $0.
crispytx··on Bitcoin.org removes “fast” and “low fees” from Bitcoin description page
I bought $10 worth, and that was my 'research'.
crispytx··on Bitcoin.org removes “fast” and “low fees” from Bitcoin description page
I thought bitcoin was 'legit' until I actually bought some in the summer of 2017. Before ever purchasing any Bitcoin, I assumed that transactions were either free, or the fees were extremely low. However, after actually purchasing some Bitcoin and trying to move it between wallets, I found that the fees to make a transaction with Bitcoin are extremely high! In August of 2017 it cost me around $5 to make a single transaction using Bitcoin. At this point I knew for certain that Bitcoin would go to $0. Convenience store owners hate the $0.30 transaction fees currently associated with VISA debit cards, how do you suppose consumers and merchants are going to feel about $5 transaction fees? And the technology behind Bitcoin, blockchain, is equally ridiculous. In order to make a single transaction, one has to process a record of every other transaction that has ever occurred? That is a horrible idea.
crispytx··on Ask HN: When could or should a blockchain be used as a back end for a mobile app?
Blockchain should only be used when adhering to a hype driven development paradigm.
crispytx··on Google ditches Ubuntu for Debian for internal engineering environment
That's cool as hell. I didn't know that Google runs Linux on the desktop. I always just assumed they used Macs.
crispytx··on The Public Domain Starts Growing Again Next Year
Our copyright laws are ridiculous.
crispytx··on Unskilled and Unaware of It (1999) [pdf]
TL;DR

People thought they did well on a test but actually performed poorly relative to their peers! Haha, losers!

crispytx··on Ask HN: My company plans an ICO despite my opposition as CTO, any advice?
Go on, take the money and run.
crispytx··on Y Combinator's Paul Buchheit:The Surprising Learned from 200+ Startups (2016)
"I’ve discovered that most people are really good at finding obstacles. I don’t fund these people."

Today a family member told me that I should quit working on my project because it looks like it's just not working out... I've only been working on it for like a month!

crispytx··on Why things might have taken so long
The invention that took a long time to come up with was agriculture. That was the killer invention.
crispytx··on What if capitalism is obsolete?
That's actually the idea behind the "death tax." It's meant to prevent dynastic family wealth from accumulating.
crispytx··on What if capitalism is obsolete?
30 year old millennial here replying from my parent's basement. I think the future is going to be a lot better than the present, we just need to fix some stuff.

TODO:

1) We need low cost housing. Mobile home parks with $10,000 RVs for rent @ $200 / month. Here in Texas the lowest cost housing options are $600 - $700 a month. With radically cheaper housing it will be much easier to survive working the types of shitty jobs that our economy is currently producing.

2) Large companies need to start raising more capital on the public stock markets. Economic growth comes from people investing money to produce MORE goods and services than were previously produced. However, most of our retirement money does not go towards this purpose. The overwhelming majority of retirement funds go toward purchasing shares of stock on the secondary market which does not contribute to producing MORE goods and services at all.

3) We need to quit allowing healthcare companies to fleece our healthcare system. There's no good reason for the United States to spend twice per capita what Canada spends for healthcare.

crispytx··on Ask HN: Any recommended podcasts for thinkers?
My two favorite live YouTube podcasts are The Joe Rogan Experience, and This Week in Startups. Another podcast that I've been getting into is Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman, but its audio only. Used to listen to This American Life and RadioLab as well.
crispytx··on How I learned to program
"I ended up at a little chip company called Centaur. I was hesitant about taking the job because the interview was the easiest interview I had at any company4, which made me wonder if they had a low hiring bar, and therefore relatively weak engineers. It turns out that, on average, that’s the best group of people I’ve ever worked with. I didn’t realize it at the time, but this would later teach me that companies that claim to have brilliant engineers because they have super hard interviews are full of it, and that the interview difficulty one-upmanship a lot of companies promote is more of a prestige play than anything else."
crispytx··on Wal-Mart Suspends a Controversial Shoplifting Punishment
"violates state extortion laws." That's great. Hope they lock up those criminals in suits. Our country has a bad problem with letting guys in suits break the law as long as they do so while working for a corporation.
crispytx··on Sam Altman: ‘Too many’ Y Combinator companies raise money
I don't know. Coinbase is sure looking like another hit. I think crypto is a bubble, but you can't deny that they picked another big winner as recently as 2012. And they had Instacart in that same S12 class as well.
crispytx··on Sam Altman: ‘Too many’ Y Combinator companies raise money
I don't think that's the case. Pretty sure they're still hunting unicorns and consider the rest of the companies a cost of doing business.
crispytx··on Oh shit, git: Getting myself out of bad situations
I ran into a situation the other day where the instructions for "Fuck this noise, I give up" didn't even work! Glad to hear others have found themselves in similar boats.
crispytx··on Statement on Cryptocurrencies and Initial Coin Offerings
LMAO, the SEC is going to shut down Coinbase and Bitcoin is going to zero. Suckers!
crispytx··on Did Bitcoin just prove it can't scale?
Crypto-neckbeards be like "Bitcoin is going to $500,000!"
crispytx··on Did Bitcoin just prove it can't scale?
This whole bitcoin bubble has taught me that people are much dumber than I had previously believed. Warren Buffett said it best, "Be fearful when others are greedy, be greedy when others are fearful."
crispytx··on Did Bitcoin just prove it can't scale?
I think you're right. Bitcoin sucks. It cost around $5 to make a single transaction back in August, and that was when Bitcoin was at 1/3 of its current price in US Dollars. Does anyone know what the cost to make a single transaction is today (in US Dollars)?
crispytx··on Taking a Second Look at the Learn-To-Code Craze
I'm really grateful for the "Learn to Code Craze," as I never would have gotten into programming were it not for the media campaigns daring me to do it. It's taken a lot longer than 3 months as the boot-camps would lead people to believe, but it's definitely been worth it.
