Former senior software developer, now head of product development

Crafting good solutions that solve real business problems in Python is the name of my game.

cph123··on Introduction to Open Source Laptop Project by Lukas Henkel
I've got one of these, you are right about the keyboard and trackball, they aren't great.

I have probably only used it a few times, it is very cool to look at but less so a functional device one could use for serious work comfortably.

cph123··on Web fingerprinting is worse than I thought
Maybe one could use something like this https://github.com/yarrick/iodine
cph123··on Met Office says Northern Lights will be visible in England tonight and tomorrow
I was flying over from Dublin to Birmingham on Sunday evening around just after 10pm but I didn't see much out the window, would've been pretty cool if I had though.
cph123··on Sexual loneliness: A neglected public health problem?
This has certainly made me rethink my approach...
cph123··on Ask HN: Someone is proxy-mirroring my website, can I do anything?
I used to do this to other websites (we won't go into why) - one thing that may help you is to always return your HTML responses gzipped, regardless of whether the client asked for them or not, so ignore Accept-Encoding preferences. This makes it harder for their server to rewrite your URLs on demand, and most clients will accept gzipped responses.
cph123··on The Queen’s Coup
Not cookies, but tea, biscuits, and cake.
cph123··on Octopuses caught on camera throwing things at each other
I googled "cactodes" and this comment was the 7th result on the first page.
cph123··on Stretch iPhone to its limit: 2GiB Stable Diffusion model runs locally on device
Works great on my iPhone 14 Pro Max
cph123··on The HTTP crash course nobody asked for
For a crash course would the code examples have been better in something like Python rather than Rust?
cph123··on Ask HN: How do you celebrate your birthday?
I like to get lots of friends together then we go out for dinner and drinks.

Happy birthday!

cph123··on Forebruary is a wall calendar that you do not need to replace every year (2013)
It would be possible to make an electronic version of this so that the frame slides into the right position, and the current day lights up.
cph123··on Now that computers have more than 4MB of memory, can we get seconds on taskbar?
I enable it in KDE, I don't find it particularly distracting, but I do make the font size smaller by displaying the date too.
cph123··on The Cube Rule (2017)
I love sausage rolls!
cph123··on Researcher uses 379-year-old algorithm to crack crypto keys found in the wild
"opendata.rapid7.com", not quite so open anymore then haha
cph123··on Bash script to automate public WiFi anonymous login
> custom web gui pop up

A captive portal.

cph123··on What’s Vivaldi’s business model?
Been a Vivaldi user for quite some time now, a number of years, and I love it. It has so many nice features without needing to install lots of extensions.
cph123··on One-of-a-kind computer systems of which only one unit was ever produced
The page on the Water Integrator is interesting.
cph123··on UK loses 83% of department stores since BHS collapsed
When I went into BHS as it was closing down, they had a lot of low quality clothes 'on offer', but still unreasonably expensive. Two polo shirts for 50 pounds, no thanks.
