cowsandmilk··on Kohler Can Access Pictures from "End-to-End Encrypted" Toilet Camera
?? I got very confused from the start of this article because it is clear that Kohler is one end of the communication from how the product is described and marketed. They’re just stating the data is encrypted between the device and them.
cowsandmilk··on Be Like Clippy
What makes them think they can license Clippy out under the GPL?
cowsandmilk··on High air pollution could diminish exercise benefits by half – study
CO2 isn’t particulate matter. But more importantly, larger percentages of our electricity is being made without burning things.
cowsandmilk··on Louvre to hike ticket prices for most non-EU tourists by 45%
In January 2024, I saw it for free at the British Museum and all indications are it is still in the same spot free to view
cowsandmilk··on Louvre to hike ticket prices for most non-EU tourists by 45%
Pretty sure the same is true of the Louvre: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_of_Egyptian_Antiqui...
cowsandmilk··on A Remarkable Assertion from A16Z
I don’t see any evidence the LLM picked the list of books, it instead was used to update/add descriptions of the books and series.
cowsandmilk··on FileZilla Pro "Perpetual License" – A Warning to All Users
> Obviously, a VM wouldn't be a suitable environment for FileZilla.

Why not? VMs can be given access to the host file systems.

cowsandmilk··on The EU made Apple adopt new Wi-Fi standards, and now Android can support AirDrop
It is also worth noting that Android wasn’t using the standard as well. If they had, this would have been day 0 interoperability for Android phones. Instead, it is a single phone model released a couple months after iOS 26.
cowsandmilk··on Crews claim Boring Company failed to pay workers and snubbed OSHA concerns
That this is being built instead of “Let’s Move Nashville” is a shame.
cowsandmilk··on Ilya Sutskever: We're moving from the age of scaling to the age of research
We’re also still at a point where security is a big question mark. My employer won’t let us hook GenAI up to office 365 or slack, so any project or product management use of GenAI first requires manually importing docs into a database and pointing to that. Efficiency gains are hard to come by when you don’t meet people where their “knowledge” is already stored.
cowsandmilk··on What OpenAI did when ChatGPT users lost touch with reality
The stories coming out are about convincing high school boys with impressionable brains into committing suicide, not about having intellectual conversations with 80 year olds about whether suicide to avoid gradual mental and physical decline makes sense.
cowsandmilk··on Building the largest known Kubernetes cluster
That is 100k vs 130k for Google’s new announcement. I can’t speak as to whether the additional 30k presented new challenges though.
cowsandmilk··on Android and iPhone users can now share files, starting with the Pixel 10
> In theory Apple could've maintained both, but that seems like a waste of development time to me.

They need Airdrop to work with phones who haven’t upgraded, so doesn’t feel like a waste to me. And they already have working AWDL code, so it’s just maintenance, probably not a ton of work.

cowsandmilk··on New Glenn Update
Good thing they didn’t use two of those units.
cowsandmilk··on A $1k AWS mistake
S3 Gateway endpoints break cross-region S3 operations. Changing defaults will break customers.
cowsandmilk··on Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025 post mortem
Blog post from less than a week ago on how Cloudflare avoids outages on configuration changes: https://blog.cloudflare.com/finding-the-grain-of-sand-in-a-h...

This has to sting a bit after that post.

cowsandmilk··on Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025 post mortem
The configuration file is updated every five minutes, so clearly they have some past experience where they’ve decided an hour is too long. That said, even a roll out over five minutes can be helpful.
cowsandmilk··on Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025 post mortem
> Why do they do non-critical changes in production before testing in a stage environment?

I guess the noncritical change here was the change to the database? My experience has been a lot of teams do a poor job having a faithful replica of databases in stage environments to expose this type of issue.

cowsandmilk··on Cloudflare Global Network experiencing issues
That doesn’t help with rolling out updates to the DNS for company.com which is the point here. It’s always DNS because your pre-production smoke tests can’t test your production DNS configuration.
cowsandmilk··on Open-source Zig book
The repetitiveness suggests copying and pasting, not an LLM. I actually find LLMs unlikely to do this.
cowsandmilk··on Open-source Zig book
I’m not sure what that has to do with the comment you’re replying to…
cowsandmilk··on AWS deprecates two dozen services (most of which you've never heard of)
It says existing customers can continue to use the IoT apis, just not new customers.
cowsandmilk··on Show HN: DBOS Java – Postgres-Backed Durable Workflows
What is the original publication?
cowsandmilk··on Warren Buffett's final shareholder letter [pdf]
That you think Warren Buffett never worked a day in his life is telling.
cowsandmilk··on A Fond Farewell
Hardly an explanation, what is meant by chaotic media environment?
cowsandmilk··on Reproducing the AWS Outage Race Condition with a Model Checker
It’s more than one person at AWS now
cowsandmilk··on We reduced a container image from 800GB to 2GB
That’s nice, but you still shouldn’t be looking into your customer’s containers.
cowsandmilk··on Nisus Writer: Schrödinger's Word Processor
Sure, today, but this was originally released 11 years before OpenOffice was open sourced.
cowsandmilk··on Using AI to negotiate a $195k hospital bill down to $33k
It isn’t clear to me that the OP’s sister-in-law would be responsible to pay these debts and they couldn’t have just allowed payment from the estate. Since insurance had lapsed, I’m assuming the estate was not large.
cowsandmilk··on Study: MRI contrast agent causes harmful metal buildup in some patients
1. The correction doesn’t invalidate that previous study at all

2. I fail to see how the previous study is an “underpinning” of the new paper. The new paper is a chemistry paper about dissociation of GBCAs in the presence of certain chemicals. Maybe people care because it is a potential explanation for toxicity, but the paper is very focused on the chemistry findings.
