corybrown··on St – A simple terminal implementation for X
What do you use now? Keyboard shortcut for font size change is a must for me.
corybrown··on “Becoming Warren Buffett,” the Man, Not the Investor
Hope it works out for you, best of luck!
corybrown··on Chronic sleep deprivation suppresses immune system
Nice to see a well done twin study here, but I'm guessing this was conventional wisdom for most.
corybrown··on A Genetic Fix to Put the Taste Back in Tomatoes
> In the tasting panels, there were noticeable differences in preferences: between men and women, between foodies and nonfoodies, and, perhaps most interesting, between older people and younger people. He recalled one of the students working in his laboratory picking out the supermarket tomato as her favorite in one of the taste tests.

People like what they know. But I'm guessing repeated exposure could end up shifting the tastes.

corybrown··on Ultimate Linux on the Desktop
This is quite the setup. How does the clipboard work?
corybrown··on ‘I’m Here to Help,’ U.S. President-Elect Tells Tech Executives
It's amazing how quickly Silicon Valley Valley falls into line. Before the election, there was a lot of tough talk about fighting against Trump. Now it's all about working with him.
corybrown··on New Yorkers Can Now Get Unlimited UberPool in Manhattan for $200
That quote only makes sense if the only traffic in Manhattan were Uber cars, which it most definitely is not.
corybrown··on Switzerland is the world’s most competitive economy
By that logic, you would have to throw all of north and south america's population combined in order to compare anything with China or India in order to get close to an equipopulous comparison.
corybrown··on China issues demolition order on world’s largest religious town in Tibet
Fantastic photos, thank you for sharing
corybrown··on Progressively Less Progressive
So is this laziness on developers' part? Or management explicitly mandating?
corybrown··on Experts say Olympics must be moved or postponed because of Zika
Can anything really stop the worldwide spread at this point? Even without the olympics, it's already throughout Latin America, which sees plenty of travelers on aggregate
corybrown··on WhatsApp, Used by 100M Brazilians, Shut Down Nationwide Today by a Single Judge
South Korea isn't, but Switzerland and Sweden, by virtue of being neutral is a third world country in the original defintion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_World

Because it wasn't an economic criteria, you've also got countries like Angola in the First World by the original defintion.

corybrown··on Stripe: Bring Your Own Team
What's the advantage for the team? Are they getting a premium like acquihires?
corybrown··on Clementine: modern music player and library organizer
How is performance these days? Last time I tried it, the app felt quite sluggish.
corybrown··on Managing dotfiles with GNU Stow
I guess the automatic linking is nice, but I don't really see a need to switch vim configurations that often. What am I missing?
corybrown··on Debian 8.4 released
I'm surprised that this is top of HN right now. It's a minor release with security updates already present on up to date machines.

Can someone enlighten me?

corybrown··on Asana
I'm a daily user as well, and the performance really irks me, especially their mobile app. One of the most important things for an app like this is easy input for later triage. I almost always end up swearing whenever I try to input something in their mobile app.
corybrown··on Website-Targeted False Content Injection by Network Operators
Are those enforceable? It seems like you could hide all sorts of nastiness in there.
corybrown··on Introducing Block Decorations
I find Atom very interesting, but the performance always drives me away from using it. Have recent versions improved? Anyone using it full time?
corybrown··on Elon Musk Says SpaceX Will Send People to Mars by 2025
Probably, but that assumes that Musk's goal is saving the human race. More likely, he wants to go to Mars and is using this as an excuse / inspiration to others.
corybrown··on Dell XPS 15 review: A bigger version of the best PC laptop
It's astounding how poorly most Linux distributions deal with these screens. They've been available for years.
corybrown··on Trying to interview Larry Page
The New Yorker consistently has in depth articles that are well researched and fact checked.
corybrown··on Simplifying Docker on OS X
How's the battery life?
corybrown··on Simplifying Docker on OS X
Pretty cool trick to make the OS X docker hacks feel transparent. I've been tempted into getting a Linux laptop just because using Docker on OS X feels so hacky.
corybrown··on HN Office Hours with Michael Seibel and Aaron Harris
This sounds great. What type of fees are you considering?
corybrown··on The alarming threat of Zika virus
This is quite scary. Various countries now telling the entire population to stop having kids. There could be a lost generation effect.
corybrown··on Never consider a travel planning startup
"The problem is a better product is not necessarily a good business"

Hear, hear. This gets lost oftentimes when you hear the whole "build something people want" mantra.

corybrown··on Peak content: The collapse of the attention economy
I moved over to Flipboard after Google Reader shut down, but it's no replacement. I miss the efficiency of Google Reader, none of the alternatives seem to match up.
