cors-fls··on I want to add CORS support to my server
It could be a great ressource to learn about CORS but when you look at the different examples they all suggest slightly different headers.

And in most example it's a blanket Allow-Origin: *

It would be better to have recommended headers + value (maybe multiple for different use cases) with an explanation and then apply theses recommendations for every server.

cors-fls··on Show HN: I've built my own simple website analytics
Nice write-up. I am a bit concerned with the part about fingerprinting. It sounds so easy to make that it made me realize that everyone must be doing it.

I am not sure if the use-case here is to track people that delete their cookies or if the author found it easier than using simple UUID stored in cookies.

cors-fls··on The New York Times buys Wordle
> Wordle was acquired for an undisclosed price in the low-seven figures.

Did I read that right ? Wordle was valued above 1M. It seems crazy from the outside but I guess I never realized how popular it.

cors-fls··on Don't fully trust AI in dev work /yet
The TwitterAPI constructor expects an object with an "accessSecret" key (among others) as parameter. The Github Copilot suggested "accessTokenSecret" instead. Even though the suggested value was correct, it seems that having the wrong key name means the secret is not sent, which causes the 401.

Nicely surprised, a picture of a Mont d'or was labelled as "Vacherin des bauges" which is quite close. Mont d'or is another name for a "Vacherin" from "Haut-Doubs".

Unfortunately, the /label page did not work on Firefox Android for me.

cors-fls··on What Are POAPs and Why Are They Important?
OK those POAP are on a decentralised blockchain but it seems to be a useless constraint to depend on a specific contract and their creator for this use case. It's like doing centralization on top of decentralization.

Event organisers could provide attendance proof with their own contract/address and you'd still have a proof of attendance as long as the organization is verifiably linked to the contract/transaction issuer.

You then only need a database (easily shareable) of verified event organizers to be able to verify anyone event attendance history.

All the fluff on top of the attendance verification mechanism provided by this company doesn't depend on the blockchain at all.

cors-fls··on Ask HN: Why is there no good open-source LMS?
Thanks for the correction. My mistake.
cors-fls··on Ask HN: Why is there no good open-source LMS?
Check out Richie. It is a modern MIT-licensed LMS built with Django and React.

It is used by FUN (France Université Numérique) a public MOOC platform, and EduLib, which looks like the equivalent in Canada.

cors-fls··on Async Python is not faster (2020)
Django 1.10 appears in Vibora's benchmark which is merely cited at the end of the article. The benchmark of the author does not test Django.

Interesting, I wish it had interpolated the move of the rectangle handles too ! It's the second thing I tried.
cors-fls··on Explore File System with Sham
I only wanted to provide feedback, but I will certainly not think about this in the future, so don't feel obligated to answer.

Maybe you can update the article if you think some of these questions are things you want the reader to understand ? I may not be the target of your article too, I am mainly a web dev. Keep writing, I wish I had interesting topics to write about. You seem to have good ideas and projects. And not all stories can become viral on HN !

cors-fls··on Explore File System with Sham
This article was hard to read. Let me ask some questions as feedback to the author.

First I understand they created a program that allows to list directories and output them in a format easily reused in other programs.

But I have questions : 1) What is sham ? 2) Is LSD better than ls ? 3) What is afind ? 4) How is LSD related to code-generation ? 5) Why are we compiling search directives instead of using find directly ? Only for a programming challenge ? If only the output format of LSD is what we want, why not piping find result into LSD ?

All in all, it's not uninteresting but it's missing some key informations to ease the understanding.

cors-fls··on Ethereum community has solved a major problem of the Internet: Single Sign-On
This ENS thing could be interesting. It makes it possible to have a distributed identity. If only if Ethereum was not overinflated.

As a result, reserving a name on ENS costs 120$ a year. Few people would be ready to pay that to get a username.

cors-fls··on Fedora contemplates the driverless printing future
I discovered IPP by accident/chance because getting the HP driver or PDD file was not easy. And it has been working perfectly for years !

It was the only choice on the CUPS interface for which driver was optional/not needed. I did not use avahi-discoverh though, I typed the printer IP.

The fact that I choose a semi-pro printer, to get laser and reliability, probably helped. It also allows me to scan directly to a network drive so I never had to install a scanner driver.

The exa website [1] is pretty good looking. It is an alternative to the ls command.

cors-fls··on Show HN: Cimbar – File transfer via color barcodes and the Android camera
Very interesting but couldn't get it to work with my smartphone. Even with a 250Ko image file, I got bored before it finished ! My camera may be too low quality and/or my monitor too small.

A barcode size parameter may be useful (even though it reduces throughput) so that it is easier to scan on all devices.

cors-fls··on A free-as-in-freedom re-implementation of Google’s Android user space
Totally recommend the MicroG-LineageOS fork [1], if your phone model is in the supported list (all devices supported by LineageOS). As a daily-driver.

I bought my current phone (Asus) because it was supported, after I had successfully used it on my MotoG for years (2-3 ? Not sure).

Very happy to have no Google spying in my phone anymore. Some apps requires some Google services that are not supported so they will not work but not a problem for me. The most problematic thing is the lack of push notification but it is perfect if you don't want to be distracted.
