Well, she’s certainly angry at least.
coolso··on Twitter user sentenced to 150 hours of community service in UK
Certainly, it is the cancelers who are most upset when their behavior comes back around and bites them in the behind.

Do you also have a problem with robbers being punished by the justice system and having their ill-begotten spoils returned to their rightful owners? It’s really no different.

coolso··on Amazon workers on Staten Island vote to unionize
Trash talk the Times however you see fit and I'll probably back you up on it (they are laughably liberally/"progressive"ly biased, and continuing to run cover for the current administration as best they can despite it not really working as per the polls), their writing standards are, in my opinion, impeccable and a standout among news organizations, but I suppose not everyone can be perfect always.
coolso··on Twitter user sentenced to 150 hours of community service in UK
I think you may be looking for an issue where there is none on this one. While "the usual crowd" absolutely rightly believes in canceling the cancelers as pushback for anti-freedom policies like the cancel culture embraced by the left and progressives, I just Googled the guy's name and there's barely any news articles on it at all aside from a few tabloid-tech style sites like this one, starting a day or two ago. I'd chalk this one up to "most people have no idea this even happened".

> A study commissioned by a cash machine operator finds people really need cash machines.

The more people on our side, the better? I mean surely you don't want to solely be beholden to a piece of plastic that can at any time be disabled, either intentionally, or because of an electrical or internet outage.

coolso··on America COMPETES Act of 2022 passed House and Senate
Sorry but you can’t toxically gaslight me and most of the country into idly standing by in the current year while governmental policies continue to give foreign countries and non-Americans advantages over the American people. The age of globalism and outsourcing so corporations can sell out the American worker and consumer for a quick buck and a cheap disposable product made in a country with lax environmental laws and wasting fuel to ship it halfway across the world is coming to a close, and none of your extremely progressive zeitgeist accusatory and inflaming buzzwords can change that, no matter how many you attempt to cram into each paragraph.

The unfair advantages (and scams and frauds that go hand in hand as well) are extensively documented and well known, which is why our big tech companies are so high on foreign nationals in the first place, and why their countries of origin love it as well.

That being said this bill is an excellent step towards bringing jobs and manufacturing back to where they belong: the USA.

coolso··on America COMPETES Act of 2022 passed House and Senate
> 2) The bill would exempt applicants holding a PhD in a STEM field from the annual per-country green card limits, enabling them to quickly apply for permanent residency without being subject to the availability of an immigrant visa. This would benefit Indians and Chinese nationals the most.

Are we… still giving unfair advantages to foreign nationals and companies that hire foreign nationals over Americans in 2022?

What a horrible web browser, created by an abhorrent company. Safari, Firefox, and Edge should be recommended to our friends and family at every opportunity to help counter its market dominance.
coolso··on The Supply Chain Crisis Is About to Get a Lot Worse
This doesn't seem right. The economists on /r/neoliberal and the NYT told me that outsourcing and global supply chains were infallible, extremely superior, and that there was no point in bringing manufacturing back to the USA.

> I do want to argue that you should be vegan.

Tried it (by my own suggestion) as a supportive boyfriend for a week. Absolutely not. The food tastes awful and is so unfulfilling as well. Every single bit of it. Nice boutique vegan restaurants, homemade vegan, following highly rated recipes online, “you can’t even tell it’s vegan!!” alternatives from the store.

All of it absolutely gross and of questionable nutritional value, both overall and to men’s health especially but also women. I finally discovered, for example, the source of my then-girlfriend’s bouts of faintness and nausea: her vegan diet. Supplementing with vitamins improved things overnight. But something feels very, very wrong about that.

There’s also the type of person that tends to be vegan. I’m sorry but when the scene is filled with people who believe veganism, male feminism, effeminate traits, inherent weakness due to diet, and voting for Bernie is a personality trait, I don’t walk… I run.

Birth control doesn’t destroy all of a woman’s eggs.
coolso··on Contraceptive pill for males is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy
Are you getting fragile about there being two different reactions to… two totally different drugs with two completely different mechanisms of action and two incredibly different safety records? Hormonal birth control has been out for ages and has many benefits outside of preventing unwanted pregnancies. Male birth control still isn’t even a safe thing yet, in 2022.

Often times your comment won’t even appear if you’re a new user, haven’t posted in that subreddit before, or your kharma is too low.

I posted a polite refutation of a very smarmy, incorrect post (as most of them are) on /r/neoliberal and it appeared to submit, but after an hour and no downvotes or upvotes I opened the thread in a Private window and my comment was never actually made public.

coolso··on Have iPhone cameras become too smart?
Assuming a modern camera with a prime lens shot at the widest aperture, yes, absolutely, although to get the best results you'd have to do some post-processing in Lightroom/Capture One (which the phone is already doing automatically in the background).
coolso··on Have iPhone cameras become too smart?
> I've given up for most things, a cellphone can beat all but the absolute top end dedicated cameras and even then only for niches.

Phone cameras absolutely unequivocally cannot beat the clarity, sharpness, detail, natural bokeh, shutter speed, and overall quality of even an affordable dedicated camera in the $1K range. The only time a phone camera can somewhat keep up is when you're looking at the photos on your tiny 4" phone screen and throwing some heavy duty filters on it to the point where anything will look "good". Throw that photo up on a computer monitor, or TV screen, or get it printed and you can immediately see the difference just in sharpness and detail alone.

Yes, phone cameras are far more convenient, and they have more filter options, and so on. But there's no comparison whatsoever. It's just that most people don't care enough when they're putting it up as a tiny little square on Instagram or sending it as a Snap that someone will look at for 5 seconds and never see again.

coolso··on Google will soon ask Australian users to show ID to view some content
Kind of a bad look for Google when its workers refuse to work on projects for the US Military, and then when Trump wins they hold a meeting where top level execs are tearing up and emotional while unpacking the situation… but when things like this happen, seemingly, nothing but crickets from those brave workers.

Tired of people defending Google at every turn despite them not deserving the benefit of the doubt for many years now.

coolso··on Apple Studio Display Review: Nothing to See Here
If I could afford this monitor I totally would buy it. I purchased one of The Verge's recommended monitors and returned it immediately for a replacement. The replacement had the same issue the first one did, albeit less severe (bad color uniformity in the bottom half of the screen). It also has a design flaw: like with most monitors, the matte coating is easily visible, in the form of what appears to be very fine sparkly dust on the screen.

Given that The Verge isn't high on the Apple Studio Display, quite frankly I'm more inclined to believe it's an excellent monitor.

All of these review sites are getting quite tiresome.

Honest question from someone who wasn’t an active participant in the community: Was Yahoo Answers ever good? My only memories of it was that was it was inevitably the top of every single Google search result and I always found most of the answers to be incredibly low effort and of questionable nature.
coolso··on US Senate votes unanimously to make daylight savings time permanent
> In return for this "extra hour" you have to pay with waking up in the dark and doing your morning commute in the dark

Unless you're a senior citizen who's retired and doesn't like late nights, I don't get why for most people, darkness wouldn't be preferred for those "nothing" activities, so an extra hour of light can then be enjoyed after they get home from work/school/whatever. Otherwise, yeah, you're enjoying the light in the morning... from the inside of a car... on your way to a day of obligations where you're stuck inside usually doing things you have to do rather than things you want to do.

I think most people would rather have that extra hour of light for after they get home from work/school/whatever, so they can actually enjoy the outdoors a bit when they get home.

I always hated the feeling from late fall until early spring of being excited to be done school/work... only to get home and it be dark so basically the only thing I can do is walk inside and stay in there until the next day.

coolso··on Amazon moves employees out of downtown Seattle office due to crime
Would you mind, then, further explaining what you meant when you said there was “no question” you’d resort to stealing if you were poor, and how you can “easily determine” this? To me that implies one of two things: either you believe the only thing stopping you from stealing is not being poor - or you believe the same, but for everyone else who is poor as you observe them from afar in your state of comfortable privilege, to use your own term. (It also strangely implies that stealing is the only option for the poor in this country.)

Either way your statement as it stands is highly disrespectful of the millions who are fully capable of being dirt poor without resorting to theft and other crimes.

coolso··on Amazon moves employees out of downtown Seattle office due to crime
Perhaps I missed something in the article, but I believe Andre is already being assisted, which is simply resulting in his criminal behavior being subsidized by you and I. (Because we didn’t give him a basketball court too or something.)

The justice system simply needs to play the role his parents never did, disciplining him for his actions and then assisting him in making the right choices when his sentence is complete.

But blameless, no, he is not a child, much as you might like the system to treat him as one.

> To shift it the other way, I grew up pretty privileged and never felt the need to steal things and steal them. However, I can easily determine that if I was homeless and poor I absolutely would have. There's no question.

OK, and I grew up the complete opposite and neither did I.

Do you actually believe that the under”privileged” simply can’t help stealing? That the poor are innately thieves? I find this astounding.

The problem is parenting and lack of family values, plain and simple.

Not entirely true. Some manufacturers / more expensive product lines have access to higher quality panels. Furthermore anti-reflective coatings, backlights, and wide angle view coatings can all vary widely.
