coolsank··on How we solved multi-modal tool-calling in MCP agents – VLM Run MCP
Very interesting. Document redaction is definitely a great use case. Gotta check this out

Would really like to know about this one as well
coolsank··on Tracking the Fake GitHub Star Black Market
Yes I do.
coolsank··on Tracking the Fake GitHub Star Black Market
Is it just me or the fact that Dagster has one of their competitors Mage.ai listed here as a repo with around 15% of fake stars seems like an odd coincidence?
coolsank··on My ADHD founder toolbox
oh man, i'm in my 30s and this is exactly how my daily life is. I grew up in a culture that didn't have much of an inclination of understanding what ADHD is and stuff, so I never bothered. I really need to get myself checked.
coolsank··on Ask HN: What template / theme does the A16Z future blog use?
Yes I am
coolsank··on Felt
definitely agree to this. And one segment that they could (should) definitely get customers are those who use ArcGIS. As someone who previously worked in oil & gas, the tax that these companies pay to Arc for all their mapping data is just crazy. I've always wondered why there isn't a solid tech company that could build a product that could take over Arc's business. Looking forward to Felt!
coolsank··on Ask HN: Visa Required on Work at a Startup?
thank you!
coolsank··on BR Shetty: The rise and fall of a billionaire
Having grown up in the United Arab Emirates in the 90s, I've personally seen the growth of NMC / UAE Exchange along with other firms (GEMS Education Group, the Lulu Group, Danube etc.) that are giant corporate entities. This story arc isn't going to be the last of what we see from firms that saw such growth. One of the biggest hurdles with such firms listing in public stock markets internationally is the lack of corporate accountability / governance in their home markets. As much as I'd hate to say it, building and growing companies in tax havens such as Dubai helps them only to develop corporate cultures to brush off problems under the rug that come to bite them later. Because they don't have to pay taxes, there isn't a government entity they need to be held accountable to. One of the few reasons where having an income / corporate tax system might just help public shareholders. As always, this is all anecdotal.
coolsank··on Launch HN: Syndetic (YC W20) – Software for explaining datasets
hah! but this is a very interesting area. You're right on the auto-summarizing issue becoming a problem these days with the usage of larger datasets. Data versioning also is starting to become a larger problem and I saw that you guys already have addressed it in your enterprise product. Hoping to see some sort of API-like version for comparison of data troves from different timelines in the future.
coolsank··on Launch HN: Syndetic (YC W20) – Software for explaining datasets
very cool product! I've worked on much smaller datasets with pandas and their inbuilt profiling report method can slow things down to a crawl!. Hoping to see more from you guys :)
coolsank··on Apple lawsuit tests if an employee can plan rival startup while on payroll
The irony here is amazing. Woz built the Apple I while being employed by HP and now Apple making sure that doesn't happen again.
coolsank··on U.S. Changes Visa Process for High-Skilled Workers
Actually Elon Musk did file for an H1-B when he quit Stanford to start Zip2.

IANAL, but once your new firm applies for the new H1B petition (the H1B transfer is technically not a transfer, but a new H1B petition itself that is not subject to the cap), and you receive the receipt of your notice (usually take 2-3 weeks), you can start working for your new firm. There's no requirement to wait until it gets approved.

Hi Peter!, first off, just wanted to say thanks for all the help you provide here! Its nothing short of amazing!

I'm currently on an H1B, but I'd like to set up an ecommerce store with a friend. I understand that itself may not have enough grounds to get an O1 visa. Is there any other workaround for this scenario?

coolsank··on It’s Not a Startup Visa, but It’s Close
I'm a bit confused here. Does one have to be in the US and start a company to be provided with a parole status as per this rule? Or all of the requirements that are listed here need to be done while being outside the United States after which a parole will be granted if the requirements are met.
coolsank··on India's Plan to Bring Digital Banking to 1.2B People
I'll disagree with the fact that multinationals like Unilever and P&G start producing and marketing sachets in India. This was pioneered by an Indian entrepreneur Chinni Krishnan[1]. These firms just ended up copying their business model.

coolsank··on This Google ad has moved people to tears across India and Pakistan
By that extension, lack of democracy in Saudi Arabia, and Egypt was the root cause of all Islamic terrorism. Saudi's actively promote a version of Islam that promotes religious discord in Muslim populations across the world.

I disagree with this statement. Saudi Arabia (& Egypt for that matter) can't be held directly responsible as one of the root causes of the current Islamic terror situation. Their idea to spread Islam by funding Islamic madrassas (schools that are usually near an Islamic mosque that typically teach the Quran in Classical Arabic) in places such as Afghanistan and Indonesia with their petro-dollars in the 70's up to the 90's was just a bit too idealistic. Of course, the fact that these schools (especially once Bin Laden was kicked out of Saudi Arabia and fled to Afghanistan) became ground zero for recruiting and training simple village kids into today's suicide bombers was something I doubt they could envision.
