coder23··on Tesla's Model 3
I disagree. It is completely possible with just a little effort.

Here are very simple guidelines for using NoScript:

Automatically block everything, if you trust a site, add it to a whitelist.

Most sites work without js, if they don't, then selectively enable scripts you need and keep others, you don't trust disabled.

Enabling scripts( or all of them ) for the current site requires a single click.

You can keep a js disabled and only enable parts of the site with clicking on blocked elements.

coder23··on Dear Instagram
That is not in direct competition to Bolt. If Instagram launched a game or a washing service called Bolt, there would be no problem.
coder23··on Tesla's Model 3
What, are, you doing? Don't risk your safety and sanity, install a javascript blocker.
coder23··on Game about squares
No idea why you got downvoted.

Such silliness really drives me away from hn.

coder23··on Game about squares
I gave up on level 28. Solving it would require pen and paper or some serious thought. The difficulty curve is excellent.
coder23··on Spain's 'Google tax'
This is mainly done to prevent linking and hosting pirated material; think movies and music. Newspapers and blogs are just collateral damage.
coder23··on Is the Solar System Stable? (2011)
If you are a planet, you are going to be ok.
coder23··on A Traditional City Primer
How do you measure that.

As long as most people are happy with television and similar crap( most free time is spent with tv ), city landscape doesn't really matter; at least on the grand scale; the first step towards nicer cities is always removing personal cars.

coder23··on A Traditional City Primer
It is simply needed to calculate which type of city can support more people/area.

If a large mall can provide more goods to people that smaller shops that take the same area, then it is better.

coder23··on Mystery in the Perseus Cluster
I have never heard about detecting gravitational lensing coming from empty space. Do you have any info/references on that?
coder23··on Mystery in the Perseus Cluster
Because there are numerous calculations and observations indicating that it is there. In other words, the hypothesis is supported by evidence. That cannot be said for certain supernatural beings.
coder23··on Polygon sat down with one of the creators of Dwarf Fortress
I think it a loss that a game with such original complexity has the most primitive graphics. Nobody wants 3D acceleration, but an upgrade to a simple 2D with sprites and effects with a better interface, would open it to a wider crowd.
coder23··on Commercializing the first direct-diode laser bright enough to cut and weld metal
Wouldn't about 12kg of laptop batteries provide 4kW?( wikipedia: ~250-~340 W/kg ) Put them in a backpack.
coder23··on Exploring No Man’s Sky, A Computer Game Forged by Algorithms
No Man's Sky doesn't have a seamless world. It is separated between space and planets. The first clue is the incorrect size ratio of ships to planets when in space and when on planets. The second clue to this is the video, at 2:16 in the video[0], two ships most far away from the player( not the three close in front ) disappear into the planet's atmosphere, that is the line that separates the two worlds.

Try this if you have a windows machine.

I have yet to see some a video advertisement on any site, and text ones are almost nonexistent on popular websites.

coder23··on Linus Torvalds gives a tour of his home office
I wonder if his virtual office( backup, code, projects ) is more organized.
coder23··on Rhode Island unintentionally decriminalized indoor prostitution in 2003
Selling is legal, fucking is legal, why isn't selling fucking legal!? Why should it be illegal to sell something that is perfectly legal to give away?

coder23··on Programming is not math?
I did implement those, but the deeper understanding eludes me. Honestly I never gave them much though, when it comes to choose whether to take a week and learn it properly I always rather code or do something tangible. Except for linear algebra, which is something I might use in the future.
coder23··on Programming is not math?
What area of programming are you in?

There is a lot of math I don't understand because I don't have the background, and I wish I could. Differential equations and fft come to mind.

coder23··on Mapcode – A short address for any location on Earth
Or the artificial Swatch time, which doesn't solve anything. We already have an international time, Coordinated Universal Time. It only takes to know your offset and some basic addition to convert.

Converting longitude and latitude to some other character base, like someone suggested would be better.

coder23··on Leading HIV researchers lost as flight MH17 is downed in Ukraine
How reliable is that video?
coder23··on North Texas citizens organize to monitor police with video cameras
I don't think the tech is ready just yet. Can't the glass record under half an hour and gets really hot while doing that?

Since the police are wearing a uniform, an integrated camera might be better.

coder23··on North Texas citizens organize to monitor police with video cameras
What I think should happen in law enforcement is that everything should be recorded.

We can expect that pretty soon with storage and chips becoming ever smaller. 10-15 years perhaps?

coder23··on North Texas citizens organize to monitor police with video cameras
I would be satisfied with a ( future )society where everyone wears a recording system, officials have to or they lose their status, and the data is automatically encrypted and uploaded to state servers. Then if proof is needed, the legal system unlocks the appropriate data.
coder23··on GPS and Relativity
It is not the height but the speed. They would be moving so much slower in a higher orbit.
coder23··on GPS and Relativity
Astronauts on the ISS age slower, a couple of miliseconds per year. They age slower because they are moving faster and they are also aging faster because they are in a shallower gravity well than earthlings. When you add both together the first effect prevails.
coder23··on Tech Blogger Tries To Cancel Comcast Service, Hilarity Ensues
Disclaimer; I have worked with a very large company with such a policy.
coder23··on LibreSSL's PRNG is Unsafe on Linux
threads.h are the lowest common denominator. If you want system specific functionality you can always wrap those functions.

Static mutex init can be emulated with call_once() function, with some limitations of its own of course.

coder23··on Tech Blogger Tries To Cancel Comcast Service, Hilarity Ensues
If we forget for a second the completely incorrect behavior of the Comcast operator.

A correct response to a unsatisfied customer would be: My supervisor doesn't talk to customers. I am the support for the company, if you are not satisfied with me, you can talk to a different operator or file a formal complaint.

This is an actual correct response to a conversation that has gone awry,( of course again, assuming the operator is behaving like a decent human being ).
