codeddesign··on 15-minute cities will free us to improve our mental health and wellbeing
It goes back to the same questions: - Who funds this? - Who ensures employment security? - Would this not prevent diversity? - How would this encourage upward mobility?

This seems like planned financial segregation. Factories began doing this in the 50’s and it turned into Gerri’s while wealthier moved away from the cities.

codeddesign··on NPR quits Twitter after being labeled as 'state-affiliated media'
I was asking your criteria.

Twitter: “Financial Resource” Considering we do have a law around funding NPR and the company would be impacted of that funding went away, personally I see it as appropriate.

However, I also see it appropriate that Fox News and Washington Post get the same tag. (party political pressures)

codeddesign··on 15-minute cities will free us to improve our mental health and wellbeing
I’m not sure what the promotion is here? Most of EU and Eastern Europe is already like this. Essentially, everyone would have to live in an apartment and be walking distance to everything. Who funds the development? Who ensures job access? What about upward mobility if the encouragement is to stay within 15 mins?

Considering the US had one of the largest economic booms in history once their was easy access to travel (cars, commercial aircraft), I can’t help but to put on my tinfoil hat and ask “why”? Would this not place huge limitation on access??

On a side note: apartments and close quarters were the worse thing during COVID. Now immediately following that they are promoting it?

codeddesign··on NPR quits Twitter after being labeled as 'state-affiliated media'
Based on what criteria? NPR is specifically in the congressional budget by law..yes, we have a law to keep them funded by the US govt.

Is the criteria money? coercion? backdoor-deals? bias?

As per Twitter’s criteria, it’s money.

codeddesign··on NPR quits Twitter after being labeled as 'state-affiliated media'
Large shareholders were moved to equity upon purchase.

In other words..the Saudi you are referencing was a large shareholder of the “Old Twitter”.

That’s along the lines of “how much did Russia fund Facebook”

VTB (sanctioned bank) funded Facebook in the tune of $1bn. It also funded Twitter in 2011 for $191m.

codeddesign··on New Mexico is losing a form of Spanish spoken nowhere else
Flamebaiting? So it’s ok when people are talking about NPR or Twitter, but not being against promotion of non-English language in the US? Come on..

On a side note: I’ve requested for my account to be deleted multiple times. Requests have been denied. Until then..

Never would I conduct personal direct attacks, but I will speak my mind.

I’m more than happy to point out more than a dozen terms violations of others within the past week that seem to go untouched. Either moderate all based on terms or don’t.

codeddesign··on Musk admits NPR isn’t state-affiliated
I believe you are arguing semantics.

I am arguing that it’s fair. Whether it’s Fox News or Washing Post. If they receive govt funding, it should be labeled as per Twitter terms.

The title of the label is a different discussion in which I agree with your last sentence.

codeddesign··on Musk admits NPR isn’t state-affiliated
I’m not sure what your argument is…

They receive tax payer money. That’s why the label was given.

Personally, I feel it’s appropriate. They can’t say they are independent is they receive govt funds.

codeddesign··on Musk admits NPR isn’t state-affiliated
As per terms, if you receive money from a govt you are state-affiliated.

In my personal opinion: If you receive govt funding YoY, a public notice should be given - regardless of the politics.

codeddesign··on Grand jury votes to indict Donald Trump
Actually it does.

If we want to hold people accountable, then the same charges should have been brought against Clinton and Obama.

This is a stunt. Nothing more, nothing less.

codeddesign··on 60M Americans have taxes so simple the IRS could do them automatically
Read the title.
codeddesign··on 60M Americans have taxes so simple the IRS could do them automatically
I other words, 18% of the population.

This also means 82% do not fall under this category.

Obviously 60M sounds better than 18%, but horrible misrepresented title.

codeddesign··on Dang is going to have 65,535 karma points soon
I was being a little facetious. You can’t do anything about voting mob mentality, it’s just internet culture. You guys have been great at moderating verbal assaults and bullying.

If I could say anything, it would be to stand by your TOS and limit political threads. We are here for tech related news. That’s what HN is great at.

10 years now on HN.

codeddesign··on Dang is going to have 65,535 karma points soon
If by “finest” you mean a Reddit mob mentality for tech, then yes I completely agree with this statement.
codeddesign··on Twitter, Bucking Own Policy, Adds “State-Affiliated Media” Label to NPR Account
And..I get downvoted for accurate information..haha

Per Twitter: “State-affiliated media is defined as outlets where the state exercises control over content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution.”

codeddesign··on Twitter, Bucking Own Policy, Adds “State-Affiliated Media” Label to NPR Account
NPR does receive government funding. If the requirement for the label is that a government funds a particular news agency, then the label would be correct.
codeddesign··on AI doomism is quickly becoming indistinguishable from an apocalyptic religion
So..like the current “trans movement”. People so badly want to latch onto something they that they jump on the band wagon for anything that is mainstream.
codeddesign··on Grand jury votes to indict Donald Trump
Hillary Clinton: Charged with $113,000 for breaking campaign finance law.

Obama: Charged with $375,000 for breaking campaign finance law.

Regardless of how you vote, this is a political stunt and witch hunt. Next Biden will be indicted when he leaves office, then the next opponent, and so on…

This is an extremely dangerous precedence that will do nothing but fuel both sides.

codeddesign··on China reports human case of H3N8 bird flu
Coming out of China..what a surprise. Just wall off that country and the world would be a whole lot safer.
codeddesign··on Extending H-1B visa grace period from 60 to 180 days
A mockery of our laws.

H1-B is intended for companies that are unable to fill a specific role within that company. It is NOT a free green card. It is NOT a free pass to citizenship.

Once that role is gone, so is their visa. This is what they agreed to. Their visa’s should be revoked. If they choose to get another visa through another company after this they have the ability to do so.

codeddesign··on Trees Across the U.S. Are Sprouting Leaves Earlier Than Usual This Year
No, it’s because those that downvotes are trying to find causation associated with climate change. His comment was indirectly against this narrative, and thus downvoted. HN has always been mob ruled, with the understanding that the farther left your views, the greater “karma” you receive (almost to extremism). 8 years being on here, and this has always been this way.

The person’s comments was suggesting a fluke event. No comments were given to have dialogue with the comment, which only downvoted.

If people wish to create a toxic environment for opposing view points, that is their choice. However, it is toxic none the less.

Not everything is associated with climate change or politics.

codeddesign··on Trees Across the U.S. Are Sprouting Leaves Earlier Than Usual This Year
It’s sad to see you downvoted and yet your comment is completely on target. Not every situation is about “climate change”, but unfortunately this is too common when you go against the mob narrative.
codeddesign··on Joint statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC
It’s the fed protecting a bank with a large financial interest. This isn’t the last bank this year…but one of few that will be protected.
codeddesign··on Joint statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC
We don’t live in a socialist society. These companies chose not to diversify their risk. If they didn’t know their accounts had a max insurance rating of $250k, then they deserve to fold. FDIC insurance is intended for consumers not to be instantly without. If you are a corporation, you are responsible for you own financial risk. 9 banks have failed in the last 5 years. The fed is treating this special and that’s why it’s an issue. Essentially they are telling the public “as long as you are with a large bank that holds large assets, we will protect you”.
codeddesign··on Joint statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC
97% of accounts are not insured. The whole point of the $250k rule is so you don’t wake up and are homeless.

This is a corporate bail-out.

1. FDIC revoked the limit and is ensuring unlimited funds.

2. Providing funds to other banks that may be in distress.

3. This guarantees banks have no accountability & the govt will cover all losses.

It could be a movie..

Govt funds a bio-research center. Virus escapes and infects population. Govt locks country down, works with companies and media to stop non-compliance. This forces people out of work, while forcing an untested chemical serum on others. Eventually leading to economic instability around the world creating rapid and inflation. To combat inflation, the govt dramatically increased interest rates. This eases inflation, but perpetuates instability. The end of the movie end Las showing cities on fire and populations walking out of the cities and into the countryside..

codeddesign··on Twitter refused to pay AWS bill, so Amazon refused to pay for ads
Talk is cheap. Back up your claim. Do you have downtime for the past 2-3 years?
codeddesign··on Twitter refused to pay AWS bill, so Amazon refused to pay for ads
If they had talent, they would still have a job or easily move into a role they prefer. Doing a job vs talent are completely different animals.

By the way, since we are arguing over downtime..does anyone have tangible stats on this?

codeddesign··on Twitter refused to pay AWS bill, so Amazon refused to pay for ads
Or…the code base is a house of cards built by a poorly managed company. Then when changes are made the legacy code falls apart. This is the more likely scenario. Ultimately Twitter like the rest of the Valley was built on some great developers..and a whole lot of bad ones.
