NPR does receive government funding. If the requirement for the label is that a government funds a particular news agency, then the label would be correct.
Per Twitter: “State-affiliated media is defined as outlets where the state exercises control over content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution.”
“state-financed media organizations with editorial independence, like the BBC in the UK or NPR in the US for example, are not defined as state-affiliated media for the purposes of this policy.”
Today they eliminated the clause about NPR, though the BBC one remains. Hence the article’s title.
