People on HN are way too keen to downvoting. Down votes should be used to filter out bad/thoughtless comments, not viewpoints that don't necessarily agree with yours. I've seen a lot of valuable input grayed out on this site.
No offense to all the companies that use the iNoun naming scheme, but they're kind of playing in a playground that Apple created many years ago. I mean.. had not Apple begun this naming trend with their prodcts, iCloud communications probably would not have been named iCloud Communications. In my opinion, this company name was piggybacking off of the reputation of products like the Apple iMac or Apple iPod to begin with, and with that comes a slight risk that Apple is going to use your name. iCloud Communications shouldn't act so surprised that this happened.
Great for beginners, or people who want to hack together a quick website! Personally, I stay away from scaffolds altogether though so I don't get stuff that I don't need being generated. Also.. as I continue to develop and my website designs become more complex, I find less and less of my projects needing the cookie cutter design of a scaffold.
I wonder if in any way Sony regrets suing those who created the PS3 hack after all of this. I know I would. These hacks have cost Sony more money and done more damage than the PS3 hack ever could have dreamed of doing.
Yes, something like this is nice. I just wish someone else besides Google did it. Google is way too big. I'd much rather have a majority of the internet comprised of many small companies than several internet giants. It's much healthier..
It's not as cold or as convenient as a standard plug-in refrigerator. If you're living in an area with access to HN, congratulations, you have electricity, which eliminates the need for something like this in your area unless you're really trying to save on energy. Another contributing effect is probably that not everybody understands the concept of this design. Much of the world is under-educated, with limited access to knowledge like this.
This is exactly how updates should be done. Usually, I'm not that big of a fan of things that Google does, but this is a great achievement. Hats off to those who contributed to this. I hope all update systems eventually work this way.
I hope this doesn't happen. The negative impact of social networking doesn't need to happen to people any sooner than it already does in their lives. Especially in the developmental years where kids are just learning to socialize.
If no one else does what you want, create exactly what you want, and release it. You wont be the only person that has wanted it, I guarantee it. Even to me, something that syncs my todo list and makes it easy to add to / remove things from sounds like a great idea.
Control doesn't create obedience, it creates rebellion. Whatever obedience that controlling the system seems to have created was there in the first place.. Controlling the internet will do more harm than good in my opinion.
The developer does have an option to add a contact email address for support, but it's so rarely used by customers that it serves little purpose. It always amazes me how large tech businesses can dismiss such large flaws in their design.
