clu3l355··on A Great Old Timey Game Programming Hack (2013)
I dunno if OP was complaining necessarily - there are a lot of cool stories to be read in the old threads too!
clu3l355··on Microsoft Is Said to Have Agreed to Acquire GitHub
I had a pretty similar experience with skype. I lost access to my connected email account and was essentially locked out of my account forever - repeated emails to support were met with silence, alas! Then I connected my facebook account to use skype instead... then they discontinued support for that. Now it's got to a point where attempting to create a new account on the OSX desktop version just shows an error screen every time, so I'm stuck unable to use skype forever. I've moved on to other, better solutions, naturally :)
clu3l355··on Ask HN: What music helps you code better?
Glad to see this here! Modern Day Babylon are great for those looking for instrumental work in the same sphere as the above. Disperse as well - Jakub Zytecki is a fantastic guitarist and features on a lot of David Maxim Micic's work.
clu3l355··on Macbook Pro frying USB peripherals
I had a similar experience with an authorised repair place - my keyboard went on the blink (as has been reportedly recently with all the touchbar MBPs. Upon opening it they found a coffee stain from where I had spilt coffee on it months before. Their response "we can't fix it sorry, Apple wouldn't allow it"...
clu3l355··on Apple will start paying $21B in back taxes to Ireland
Moreover, Ireland was the fastest-recovering nation financial crisis, driven undoubtedly in part by its preferential corporate tax rates
clu3l355··on How to avoid getting stuck with the middle seat on a Ryanair flight
Compared to the other budget providers (Easyjet, Flybe [who frankly, aren't even budget prices]), they're miles ahead. The Easyjet routes I used to fly regularly were late every single time, and a member of airport staff told me ~50% of Easyjet flights were delayed in that particular airport. While Ryanair is certainly super basic, and they take every opportunity to sell you tat, they've been far more consistent and far cheaper than the alternatives in my experience
clu3l355··on Google bans cryptocurrency ads
Is it not the female equivalent of "this dude"?

edit: seems that's how the author intended it

clu3l355··on A tiny US island with a British accent
None of the people in the videos had a remotely British accent, am I missing something?
clu3l355··on Where Dutch directness comes from
I feel the Dutch are a lot more casual about it and less grumpy. Germans are direct when unhappy about something ("don't be so loud", "get your feet of the seats"), but are much more likely to stare disapprovingly. Dutch are also more direct when talking about themselves/their feelings - you would never hear a German say "my new haircut looks great"
clu3l355··on Where Dutch directness comes from
As a tourist who has attempted to learn the language, I've been told to "please just speak English" nearly all of the times I've tried it (much to my dismay!)

clu3l355··on France to ban mobile phones in primary, junior and middle schools
How does a phone ban stop this from happening? Not to mention the challenge of actually enforcing it. I suspect the kids who want to take pictures of others and upload them mockingly will still do it.
clu3l355··on France to ban mobile phones in primary, junior and middle schools
>Perhaps not the best choice of words from the OP, but look up premature sexualization and psychological trauma.

Existence of it is hardly grounds for mass hysteria - this smacks of 'will somebody please think of the children'.

clu3l355··on Bitcoin passes 10,000 USD
>I can't really think of many reasons why you would use crypto to pay for a coffee or a sandwich if you live in the West (or frankly, even most developing nations).

Credit card companies/banks sell your transaction data for a lot of money, and plenty of unscrupulous players can garner a lot about your life from such data. While BTC is only pseudonymous, it can provide some shielding from this.

clu3l355··on Prime Day 2017: 12.9M DynamoDB requests per second
Other retailers doing it doesn't absolve Amazon
clu3l355··on The Cost of Skipping TDD and Code Reviews (2016)
Sure if you run manual tests once they might be faster than test implementation, but having an automated test suite protects against regression. Having to do a full manual test for every change is going to consume a lot of time.
clu3l355··on Messenger.com Now 50% Converted to Reason
If developing your idea in something else takes longer or is buggier, perhaps you'll never get to a stage where your company worth acquiring.
clu3l355··on Opioid Use Could Explain 20% of the Drop in American Men from Labor Force
The article is saying that those unemployed have a higher rate of prescription though, not just illicit use

>Krueger’s study linked county prescription rates to labor force data from the past 15 years
