cloudwalking··on Tesla: Introducing Autopilot and Dual Motor All Wheel Drive
BMW has already released this in the United States.
cloudwalking··on Bent iPhone claims put Apple under pressure to respond
Day to day usage? No, don't think so...
cloudwalking··on Amazon Cuts Struggling Phone’s Price to 99 Cents
Perhaps I am missing something, but I don't understand the appeal of this phone. Its only real differentiator seems to be the "instant customer service" feature.
cloudwalking··on One wolf's migration across Europe
5 seconds is fast to acquire a GPS fix...
cloudwalking··on Goodbye to Sasha Shulgin, Godfather of Psychedelics

cloudwalking··on Welcome new YC team members
+1. I worked with Qasar at Google. He's a brilliant product guy and a great manager. Uncanny ability to cut through the political bullshit and get things done. Congrats to Qasar; we will miss him, but he'll do great things for YC.
cloudwalking··on Offer HN: Free Use of Agricultural Land 30 miles Northwest of Chicago
Various plants.
cloudwalking··on Google+ now lets you use any name you want
Sure, but throttling is going to make it really slow to gather all the data you want.
cloudwalking··on Google+ now lets you use any name you want
Actually, Vic did G+.
cloudwalking··on Google+ now lets you use any name you want
Google does not let you scrape.
cloudwalking··on Show HN: Pangoly – Build your shiny new PC
Ditch the notices/warnings. Eg:

  > Don't worry about hardware compatibility, the following components are safe to be used in the same PC build.
It looks like an error, which it isn't. Instead, convey this in the UI--eg a small "100% compatible" / "compatibility guarantee" badge next to each product.
cloudwalking··on Google Noto Fonts
A lot of fonts don't support a lot of unicode characters.
cloudwalking··on Tech Blogger Tries To Cancel Comcast Service, Hilarity Ensues
I cancelled my Comcast on Friday. It was incredibly easy. I didn't have to stay on hold, and they even offered to mail a postage-paid box for me to return my modem.

I was pleasantly surprised.

cloudwalking··on Who smeared Richard Feynman?

  > threw pieces of bric-a-brac about and smashed the furniture.
cloudwalking··on Market Size and Demand for Marijuana in Colorado [pdf]
Marijuana is an enormous growing market. Legalization will take hold over the next 10 years and the market will grow 100x what it is now. This is a golden opportunity for entrepreneurs.
cloudwalking··on The YouTube Contract for Indies
"YouTube users can now download all songs for free, which means there’s no need for anybody to buy music from iTunes anymore"

More like: Users can pay for a service that allows them to cache songs for offline playback in their YouTube app. It's not free and it's not like users are downloading the MP3s.

cloudwalking··on Apple is launching a project to map the inside of every large building
The media will say almost anything to stir up controversy and get page views.
cloudwalking··on Twitter in talks to buy online music firm SoundCloud
The one that annoys me the most is playback. Songs will often stop playing randomly. It only seems to happen with the web client, not the iOS app, but it happens on a lot of different computers and people I have talked to.
cloudwalking··on Twitter in talks to buy online music firm SoundCloud
Please buy Soundcloud. They have a great product that hasn't made many improvements in the last couple years. Hopefully an acquisition by Twitter would give them the resources they need to thrive, without too much negative oversight. (Vine is an example of a very successful Twitter acquisition.)
cloudwalking··on Apple Developer Indifference
Or implement a second provider to fall back on.
cloudwalking··on Soylent 1.0 arrives at Ars: We mix it up and slurp it down
Sorry but non-accredited nutritionists don't count as nutritionists.
cloudwalking··on The End Of The Acqui-Hire?
I agree with the author, but I feel they should not be in this position to begin with.

VCs can ensure their money back using paperwork. 500 Startups' seed specifically says they can block any acquisition that lowballs 500. This is reasonable because they take the risk.

I was hoping for an interesting article about acqui-hire trends and predictions, but instead I got a complaint about VCs not getting paid back. A reasonable perspective, but not particularly insightful.

cloudwalking··on Ask HN: Please, can someone explain the fascination with the Apple/Beats "deal"?
If you don't know what "Beats" is, it sounds like you should do some research on your own.
cloudwalking··on SpaceX Successfully Soft-Landed Booster Rocket in the Atlantic
- Successful soft landing in the Atlantic

- Seas were too rough for a quick recovery

- Rocket subsequently destroyed by wave action

- Will attempt recovery of the next Falcon 9 launch

- A Falcon 9 recovered on land could be re-used the next day (!)

- SpaceX is lobbying to allow private competition for National Security launches (eg GPS satellites)

cloudwalking··on Technology Giants Settle Hiring Suit
I think you answer your own question :) Comfortable living, interesting work, and big bonus checks (tens of thousands for many, hundreds of thousands for some) are indeed what attract a lot of employees. Larry, Sergey, and Eric are universally loved inside of Google, I don't think people mind that they are billionaires. It's not like they're taking $500MM a year in salary.
cloudwalking··on Inside the Operating System Edward Snowden Used to Evade the NSA
Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amnesic_Incognito_Live_Syst..., a Debian fork which forces Tor for all outgoing and incoming connections. Designed to be run from read-only media.
cloudwalking··on Google C++ style guide
Code style doesn't dictate what your engineers build, it just makes their code easier to review and maintain. Code smells, foreign conventions, and inconsistency all make reviewing and editing code harder.
cloudwalking··on Internal Apple document: FY'14 Planning Offsite
The problem is, these "cool" things you mention are mostly just marketing and don't work very well. I have only heard complaints about Galaxy Gear. Same for the eyeball tracking stuff on the new Galaxy phones--it just doesn't work very well.
cloudwalking··on Google Now for Chrome
Curious what the negatives to Google Now are (aside from battery life, which seems to be a theme with Android)?
cloudwalking··on Google Now for Chrome
How does chrome battery use compare to other browsers?
