I'm not actually born/raised in US, only moved here 5 years ago. Thanks for the response as I wasn't aware of the gold seizures.
I would still say based on the practicality if you look at any cryptocurrency it would falter under the load of transactions as large as the whole US for example. So it's a bit early to bet the farm on any one of them. Also if a govt will support cryptocurrency they will create their own one so they can profit off their own ponzi, so to speak. They wouldn't be in favor of enriching Bitcoin whales just to take advantage of the 1s and 0s previously established in the btc Blockchain
Very touching and sad video. I never saw his channel but when totalbiscuit died I cried also. To the parents empathizing with children, they are sad because they like the videos and believe this creator exists in the world. Then when they die it's like a friend they spend time with dying. For some people it can literally change their worldview.
Sure but how many people need to worry about their life savings being seized? Out of 300 million in the US for example? Maybe just criminals? Also I don't think civilization falling is really much to worry about. It would take years for civilization to fall, and if it does we can just buy gold or something with a real tangible value. Or maybe we can move to a crypto after it falls, which is something we can do after the fact. And TBH there's no reason why any specific coin used today would be used in that situation either. In that event we can just create a new Blockchain to avoid the ponzi effect.
I generally agree with the article. I would say that people using "crypto" as a hedge against inflation are sorely mistaken as the correlation with inflation is probably incredibly low. It's too volatile to be a store of wealth. It has no intrinsic value. It's incredibly resource inefficient. It's not an "investment" since it doesn't produce anything, and financially it has performed worse than real investments.
The only thing it does have going for it is a perfect pump and dump economics. Crypto "believers" are really only truly believing in this ponzi scheme economics, which is a shame since they'd make more money by using real financial instruments. If crypto was really so good, we shouldn't have to worry about "investing" in it, we'd all just buy some to use it for day to day transactions. Which categorically is not viable at all any time soon.
Also I want to add, I personally think that understanding baldness and "curing" baldness is one of the biggest solvable problems we have as humans today. It can't be that hard to stop the process of hair loss, scientifically. Or at least growing hair in the lab and transplanting it onto the head, which I'm sure most people would be willing to do once every 10 years for a hefty fee. I know I would, if anybody knows anything please let me know!
The best thing you can do is just get over it. As somebody who's tried almost everything that seems like it has a chance, it's a genetic problem. It's aggravated by stress and other conditions.
The only "solutions" you consider are wearing a hair system (toupee of real hair), drugs (finasteride, minoxidyl, plus hair transplant if you want), or a care-free attitude. I personally go through phases of caring and not. Life's just better when I don't worry about it.
I hate to break it to you but your hair stylist more than likely hasn't followed the scientific process to determine whether what she says is true. If it was that easy everybody would do it. Anecdotally, I personally have brushed my hair a few times (tried everything except the drugs) and the hair just all fell out even more.
I'm not sure if the question asked is even the right question (what tone to use isn't the problem). The code review should educate the developer submitting it if they don't know the points you are making. If they do know the points, I would tell them to review their own PR before another person since it helps everybody. We shouldn't be asking for approval for code that's not even double checked.. that throws the responsibility for catching bugs on the reviewer and not even the writer.
If they already self reviewed the code and it has problems, you can write a more detailed message explaining why there's a better way to do things. This way it doesn't come off negatively because the comment is a constructive suggestion. You may also have to compromise some lower priority feedback for development velocity as long as the submitter understands and can improve in the future.
Yes I agree with this. It's the level of stress that takes a toll on the brain. We need considerable time off to heal, probably more time off than the average person is currently taking.
Whiteboarding was great before the pandemic. Especially if you are allowed to whiteboard first then code up on PC (which is easier than coding with a marker).
Nowadays with the virtual interviews it can be hard to visualize, describe and explore some problems with virtual drawing tools..
Google isn't the only one. Last time I tried to get help for something wrong in Instagram the only thing I could find was a "help yourself" faq, it kinda makes the product unusable. It's also quite alarming given the level of commerce running on Instagram
If you're talking about running a node project in WSL2 vs in an emulator or VM etc it might just be that most of the speedup comes from Linux and WSL2 itself, as it's quite fast. What you've mentioned isn't a controlled experiment for testing performance
You need to dedicate significant study into data structures and algorithms with lots of coding challenges (leetcode-esque) to pass these interviews. Even some world class programmers will fail the interviews, that's how they've been designed.
I think it's quite a reasonable expectation to achieve a high paying job. It's just a shame that it's not necessarily related to the day to day work, not will your prior work experience help much.
To be fair I'd say this product caters to the corporate crowd (in my opinion) so it's not much of a concern why any regular person would want to use it. I don't think it's very reasonable to say that your average person will want to pay a subscription fee in perpetuity just to browse the web.
Nice this sounds optimistic, so I'm guessing it must be some kind of hardware capability that could be harnessed in Linux some day in the future? Any idea if there's any docs about this M1 passthrough capability existing? I'll try and have a look
There's something quite ironic about calling your social network Truth and not having any ability to hold yourself to standards of accountability to "truth" at all. It's a very hypocritical name, no matter whether it was a quality offering or not.
If you haven't practiced leetcode your chances are slim to none, even if you are a good programmer. 1 month full time study could be enough, but even then there's still an element of luck involved. They are looking for specific things in the interviews so if you haven't prepared well unfortunately the chances are very low.
You could take the interview for experience but you could get a similar experience on a tech interview matching service without triggering a cooldown at a big company, or a "no hire" in your history. Good luck
My same iPad was real slow until one day I did a system reset on it and it was good as new. It progressively has slowed down slowly since then, but I haven't installed the same amount of apps on it. It makes a big difference, maybe try it.
Ouch, that MacBook Pro 13" chassis makes me hurt. The air actually has a better body, that's disappointing. The display size, magsafe and function keys are all better on Air but it doesn't have a fan for sustained performance :'(
I used to use Apple Music and liked it, but the bitrate (music quality) of the music was too low so after a few years I cancelled it. For me it's really audible the difference between 320kbps music.
Looks like a cool release. Note there is a typo on the page saying Nodejs 6 when I believe they are really using Nodejs 16.. Nodejs 6 would be horribly out of date for a new release!
If the computer has non volatile memory then how do you turn it off and on again to fix the bugs in software? Hope we don't have to say rest in peace to this beautiful piece of troubleshooting procedure
It's not necessarily an apples to apples comparison of web servers though, since the NextJS one is also using GraphQL which adds extra response time. The remix one is also running on fly.io instead of a regular VPS in middle america just to cope with extra HN traffic.
Remix also supports client side React rendering so those redirects will be client side history and general routing logic applies just like using React Router. No page reloads will occur when using the Remix Form and Link component so the state is preserved according to regular React/React Router behaviour.
In general a client side web app might use something like Redux to hold state and make requests to the server using JavaScript (`fetch` for example). But with Remix you can just use HTML <form action="/submit" method="POST"> tags and have an `action`or `loader` which handles the response for it! This way the app even works when JS is disabled (Usually to redirect you to a new page after an action).
Remix also provides a higher level <Form> React component and hook with support for extra states like loading etc!
The article says Buffett has resigned from all boards except Berkshire Hathaway. It must be because he thinks he's getting old, which he's mentioned a number of times regarding succession planning.
