citboinon Smart TVs take snapshots of what you watch multiple times per second

Best Buy sells the "DuraPro - Partial Sun Series 43" Class LED Outdoor Partial Sun 4K UHD TV (2023)" which is supposedly a "non-smart" TV. I just ran a search and don't know anything about it, personally. They could still be screenshotting AFAIK.

citboinon It's probably time to rethink “Building in public”

The Bandwagon effect, maybe?

citboinon Meta AI: "The Future of AI Is Open Source and Decentralized"

>The main thing you can do is support companies and groups who are releasing open source models. They are usually using their own data.

Alternatively we could create standardized open source training data like wikipedia, wikimedia as well as public domain literature and open courseware. I'm sure that there are many other such free and legal sources of data.

tauroursodeoxycholic acid, aka TUDCA. I have M.S. Going to calculate a dose and give it a shot.

citboinon Ask HN: I hate gym. How to stay in shape?

Since you “train in Boxing” once a week, expand on that and train outside of the gym like you’re going to compete in Boxing. Jump rope, run/walk, do calisthenics, and look into Kettlebells plus resistance bands. Also stretch more and possibly buy boxing bags for your home. I do this, but I prefer to train for Kickboxing.

citboinon Tinder users are using ChatGPT to message matches

At this point it’s safest to just assume they’re not private conversations.

citboinon Tinder users are using ChatGPT to message matches

I’ve considered outsourcing all of my online dating to humans that handle that professionally. The point is to get to the first REAL date and skip the B.S.

citboinon Are hospitals overtreating patients nearing the end?

“ I am worried that I will delay that decision and end up in a situation where I lose my faculties to make that decision.”

Same. I have cognitive issues from m.s. and intend to move somewhere where my desire is respected. My quality of life already sucks, so I may make the decsision sooner than would normally be expected.

citboinon US navy to replace touchscreen controls following NTSB investigation

Is it really an unpopular opinion, though? I drive a hybrid with a touchscreen Navigation/Entertainment system and own an iPhone. Both are unusable in bright sunlight. I can’t imagine a car that relies 100% on a touchscreen - and I also think that we should be using e-ink on those screens.

citboinon The rise of lonely, single men

“ Men need to address skills deficits to meet healthier relationship expectations.”

Define “healthier”. On the contrary I see pervasive and normalized misandry. In my employee handbook one of the examples of sexual harassment is “asking a coworker out on a date”. Yeah, fuck that.

citboinon Multiple sclerosis has a common viral culprit, opening doors to new approaches

Moderna is already working on a vaccine. This disease has ruined my life in more ways than one and I hope the vaccine eliminates the disease. Nobody should have to live like this.

citboinon Ask HN: Where have all the forums gone?

Big-boards used to list the biggest forums and I think it would be relatively simple to recreate it using ml and web scraping. Someone more knowledgeable than me probably has a better idea of how to do it:

citboinon Ask HN: Is it the “worst” time to buy a house?

Ok, wow, so it is not trivial and my one question was intended to be just an opening question in a larger conversation. It took some effort and multiple website searches to find affordable rentals in the USA that were not in high crime areas, near specialized healthcare that I need, with reasonable laws regarding certain things that matter to me, and that had the amenities I was searching for. If you had simply said “Cambodia” we could have had an interesting conversation about how useless Google is in this case.

citboinon Toyota unveils 8.7 kWh battery for residential applications

I think the batteries would need to have a vent and you would want to be able to access them quickly in case of a fire. All I know for sure is that I would not want batteries attached directly to my house.

citboinon Ask HN: Is it the “worst” time to buy a house?

> ….there are some exceptionally affordable places to rent housing until the market cools and it's a better time to buy.

Where?
