chwolfe··on A FB ad targeted at one person (my wife)
A college buddy of mine recently started a wedding photography business. He has had great success with FB ads. Word of mouth and referrals are starting to ramp up but FB was where he got his first 10-15 contracts (it helps when you can target "Women who are Engaged in Metro area"). The only thing that drives him nuts is that he hasn't figured out a way to not advertise on apps.facebook.com (games) because the bounce rate is obviously insane.
chwolfe··on Introducing Our Ridiculously Simple Twilio SMS API
Awesome. Is anyone familiar with MessageMedia's sms software and how it compares to Twilio?
chwolfe··on Interview with Don Syme, the inventor of F#
"...nothing beats the uses of F# to implement statistical machine learning algorithms as part of the Bing advertisement delivery machinery." For those interested, I found a bit more information here (AdPredict): http://www.slideshare.net/lgayowski/taking-functional-progra...
chwolfe··on Why would Google not pay as little tax as possible?
"when the top 20% are taking over 80% of the money" Who exactly are the rich "taking" money from in general? Creating wealth is not a zero-sum game. If you insert the word "earning" in the above phrase, the argument you present loses some luster.
chwolfe··on Are Microsoft Users More Gullible When It Comes To Online Advertising?
As mentioned in the TC comments, Bing's cashback program has had some excellent rebates recently (20% cashback from Wal-mart for example) which needs to be taken into consideration.
chwolfe··on The End of Days for “View Source”?
The Web Developer Toolbar add-on for FF has a View Generated Source feature which is nice when dealing with dynamic markup (and of course Firebug rocks).
chwolfe··on Ask HN: Which Firefox add-ons do you use?
View Cookies Tab
chwolfe··on Ask HN: Review our startup - EventGel
So does Google.
chwolfe··on HN Review My Startup: Nitriq Code Analysis
Looks promising. You might want to add a "Loading" splash screen (The first load of your app takes awhile on my old computer). Also, when I try to load an .NET assembly, I click "My Computer" and none of the drives appear.
chwolfe··on Ask HN: What are your (non-hn-related) hobbies?
Hoppy Beer and Golf (preferably together)
chwolfe··on Why Are Southerners So Fat?
We eat food that was appropriate when you worked outside for 12 hours a day. We also live in rural areas so you have to drive everywhere.
chwolfe··on Cats Do Control Humans, Study Finds

chwolfe··on Wolfram Alpha Live
Nice :P You can have wolfram and I'll take ACC titles and we'll call it even :o)
chwolfe··on Wolfram Alpha Live
My Alma Mater:

Input: Virginia Tech

Results: Wolfram Alpha isn't sure what to do with your input.

What is this?! Amateur Hour!

chwolfe··on Watching the Growth of Walmart Across America
If you watch it in reverse, you can visualize Circuit City's fate.
chwolfe··on The new reality: Ticketstumbler ($15,000 in funding) vs Fansnap ($10.5 million)
Great minds think alike!
chwolfe··on The new reality: Ticketstumbler ($15,000 in funding) vs Fansnap ($10.5 million)
Fansnap should acquire Ticketstumbler (This assumes Fansnap has not spent $10.5 million on coke and hookers).
chwolfe··on Ask HN: good books about military strategy?
Patton - "Rommel, you magnificent bastard! I read your book!"
chwolfe··on Iceland after the fall
Christ. I read the title as "Iceland after the fail". I need to take a break from the internets.
chwolfe··on Why Learning Haskell/Python Makes You a Worse Programmer
This is very true. I was not attempting to port the author's code to .NET 3.5 as much as to introduce C# lambda expression syntax to the readers here.
chwolfe··on Why Learning Haskell/Python Makes You a Worse Programmer
Comparing C# 2.0's functional capabilities to Haskell/Python is terribly misleading. You can perform functional tasks easily in 3.5 using lambda expressions and built in functional operators such as:

listOfTestObjects.ForEach(x => sOutputDescriptions += "\n" + x.Description());

chwolfe··on Tell HN: I'm freee
Nice The Who ref.
chwolfe··on Classmates.com User Sues; Schoolmates Weren't Really Looking for Him
I was expecting an Onion article.
chwolfe··on Wake-N-Bacon: alarm clock that wakes you to the smell of cooking bacon
Michael Scott: I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me. And since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious, it's good for me, it's the perfect way to start the day.
chwolfe··on HttpFox: The FireFox add-on you can't live without
If you work in an IE world, Fiddler is a nice tool.
chwolfe··on C# vs Ruby
As someone who codes in C# during the week, I would much rather play around with other languages on the weekend to gain new insight and motivation. If Ruby was a popular 9-5 language, I would expect to see a similar drop over the weekend.
chwolfe··on Talking Stocks
"What about fundamentals? Fundamentals is a word invented by sellers to find buyers."
chwolfe··on Launchbox Startups
Great to see another Hokie in the startup world! Legal question: If a professor requests his/her test to be removed, I am assuming you will have to comply?
chwolfe··on Ticketstumbler (YC Summer 08) launches
If the other providers do not catch up with Stubhub, won't TicketStumbler end up being a nice front end to Stubhub?
chwolfe··on NFL player IQ by position
