christkv··on EU ban on destruction of unsold clothes and shoes enters into application
The problem with the EU is that it only approaches problem solving with regulation. It’s incapable of doing anything else. Meanwhile none of the Chinese platforms dumping cheap clothes and crap into the market are held to any of these standards for safety or destruction.
christkv··on The Three-Second Theft: Why AI Voice Fraud Outruns Every Defence
I mean that's a pretty extreme example though. It can be mostly gotten past by using the method used with alarm companies. One "danger" password and one "safe" password.
christkv··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
Oh for sure. I guess its just as much a Acqui-hire as well as for the tech.
christkv··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
I get that but there is always node.js
christkv··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
Yeah I get they use it but I don't understand why you would buy it. it's just the runtime for code that makes up the agent.
christkv··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
Can anybody explain to me why anthropic bought bun in the first place ?
christkv··on The Three-Second Theft: Why AI Voice Fraud Outruns Every Defence
We all have a safe word in the family just for this issue to identify if it´s the real person or not.
christkv··on The bread paradox: why convenience always wins, and why SaaS isn't doomed
SaaS is not doomed but their margins are is my bet. They will have to run lean and mean and keep costs under tight control because companies will not be willing to pay for the large margins the SaaS companies enjoyed until recently
christkv··on No Spanish reading crisis?
Yeah but I can´t find any information about how the study was done? Sample size, etc.
christkv··on European "age verification" "app" forcing everyone to use Android or iOS
And we are lapping it up
christkv··on No Spanish reading crisis?
I´ve ended up switching back to paper for half of my reading. Kids prefer paper for reading to. Kindle goes with me on vacation when I don´t want to drag around 2-3 kilos of paper (Reading chunky history books at the moment).
christkv··on Are we offloading too much of our thinking to AI?
Yes that seems pretty clear. We also need quick adaptation in school and university to avoid cheating. Back to closed book exams I guess, home projects not counting for the final score. It sucks but I don´t see how you can´t avoid removing technology for evaluation. Sure people can use AI to boost their ability to get better results but they will have to prove it the old way with no assisted help and people watching them during exams.
christkv··on European "age verification" "app" forcing everyone to use Android or iOS
Step one in the "EU Firewall" and future credit system. Step out of line and get debanked or other things they will come up with to keep you inline.
christkv··on European "age verification" "app" forcing everyone to use Android or iOS
Tells us the us is some sort of failed democracy then implements China like access control for the population because they want to ensure they can prosecute you for wrong think in the future. Yeah Im loving this "liberal order" that looks more like good old facism dressed up to look "nice". Even how the passing of chat control was done has ensured I´m voting for any party that will dismantle the EU. EU Parliament is not a democratic of representative institution. Its about as legitimate and democratic as the Duma in Russia.
christkv··on No Spanish reading crisis?
Yeah that is a reach. Also based in Spain and Im not sure they read as much as they say here with teens at home. I could not find any source information for the numbers anywhere (maybe I missed it)
christkv··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
I’m more worried about the geo synchronous ones as they don’t degrade and burn up in the atmosphere
christkv··on How the terrorist group Boko Haram uses frontier AI
Truly very very special terrorists. No wonder other terror groups steer clear of them. Must be all the wolf cola they consume.
christkv··on Grok 4.5
It’s just this constant level of anger and righteousness no matter what side of the coin they have decided they are on.
christkv··on Grok 4.5
People just need to get off the internet, go outside touch some grass and realize you are being ginned up by bad actors on both sides. Outside of your bubble most people are actually still nice.
christkv··on Fable 5 is Back
Now the Chinese models can start the distilling process again so I can get a better small parameter local model.
christkv··on Most arguments are about ego, not ideas
lol so humble he writes a humble brag blog post.
christkv··on EU commissioners shut down air conditioning for employees, leave theirs on
What are you on about. They are not expensive at all. What they can't afford is to pay the electrical bill of running one.
christkv··on My Steam Machine Is a 50ft HDMI Cable
I'm doing the same and it works great. The apple tv is an amazing little box for all of these things.
christkv··on Why current LLM costs are not sustainable
The subscriptions will probably disappear or end up only allowed to use gimped versions of the models long term.
christkv··on Wikipedia Workers to Seek Union Recognition
You make a lot of assumptions about other people don’t you and what they believe. You should learn to see the world as a spectrum of grays instead of black and white. Two things can be true at the same time.
christkv··on Tell HN: OpenAI has started putting ads on paid programs
The most generic ad inventory. Personalized or content relevant ads is still fantasy I see
christkv··on Wikipedia Workers to Seek Union Recognition
No I believe that you should not be paid my tax money to run your politically motivated union. The members of the union should.
christkv··on Wikipedia Workers to Seek Union Recognition
Sure be a lobbying group but without public funding. If your members can't be bothered to pay the cost of the union it can cease to exist.
christkv··on The unbearable cheapness of open weight models
You forgot

3. Try to get the government to "certify models" to cause regulatory capture which is what both Anthropic and OpenAI has been pushing. No certification no use in business.

christkv··on Wikipedia Workers to Seek Union Recognition
I don't dispute that unions were important and offer some sort of benefit. What I don't like is that most of the big unions in Europe receive a lot of governmental money and become lobbying groups for political parties. I would not consider them independent in any sense of the word.
