chrisferry··on We Don’t Run Cron Jobs (2016)

Kubernetes CronJobs resource would be my go to for this.

chrisferry··on GitHub was down

Maybe not public ones, but I'm pretty sure they perform internal post mortems when they have outages.

chrisferry··on Man Fined $500 for Crime of Writing 'I Am an Engineer' in an Email to the Gov't

Nah son, all you need is your MSCE and you are golden!

chrisferry··on How I legally got scammed for $250 by an upscale apartment complex

I've never had to scan ID or provide a previous landlord letter for a NYC rental. Also there's usually no app fee just a $50 credit check. But all the other bullet points ring true. I've also lived in trendier Brooklyn neighborhoods where the competition is high. You must be prepared with a cashiers check for a down payment. Shit goes quick here.

chrisferry··on Salary transparency at Stack Overflow

These salaries seem SUPER low. Engineering manager with 15 years experience < 150k? Try 200+k here in NYC.

chrisferry··on Ask HN: Anyone else having no email deliver with SendGrid?

If your email reliability is affecting you financially maybe you should pay for a pro account? I would NEVER use a "free" service for e-mail if I depended on it for $ This is a lesson well learned for you.

chrisferry··on Why we ditched Amazon AWS

Looks like "their cloud" couldn't handle Hacker News' traffic. Had they set up their blog in an AutoScaling group in EC2 this would not have been a problem :)
