The AI optimists are not that much more rational if you dig deep. Like any deep problem it is best to look at the facts not the hype and make up your own mind, outsourcing your thinking to other people never ends well.
Agree, but natural languages have ambiguity, the AI output should really include the assumptions and we seriously need to replace the word "prompt" with "conversation".
I noticed an ex-colleagues sci-fi novels are all now free epub downloads here for anyone interested in sci-fi [rodyne.com] - halfway through his last book and really resonating so far.
Good, I hope he spends it all on big fucking rockets, fast cars and space cities.. but I am sure the usual haters will find some reasons why we should all be angry..
There has been a very big adoption of ENGLISH as a programming language in the last year or so, and, painful as it sounds, AI is already generating machine code without compilers, so let's see where we are in 2030.
Kindle gone, Kobo in. Bit more friction but I mostly just read library ebooks, free ebooks or the 500 ebooks books I took off my old kindle library a few years ago before I left.
Interesting looking at the data, that Norway generates 4x the electricity of NZ and they are roughly the same size and population I assume it exports most.
If the government knew every single user on the internet's name, address, phone number and what they had for breakfast, it would not stop monsters like this, or even slow them down.
If you work in C and are happy with the standard libraries and don't want to go too deep into the hardware then most of the 8-bit micros are pretty similar. During COVID and the component shortages I had to do a bit of swapping around, luckily it was all GPIO, I2C and UART stuff so nothing too taxing.
Rather than top scientists, the fund should target the young scientists, and or promoting companies that will employ these guys locally. Once lost to somewhere like the US, they rarely return. Me and a Lot of my friends who left in 97 and I still keep in touch with would never return without similar opportunities locally or the same seed funding we can get in US.
There used to be a local hackathon where I used to live in London. Amazingly talented people used to attend, great social, I really miss going to these events
You may be right, but I would approach this with an open mind. Whether the trajectory of AI development remains an asymptote to human intelligence or surpasses it entirely, the increasing investment, involvement of diverse stakeholders, and growing stakes suggest that virtually every job role may face disruption or, at the very least, re-evaluation.
Speculation can be enjoyable, but given the rapid pace of AI advancements, where today's capabilities may be obsolete within a year, it's wise to approach any claims with a healthy dose of skepticism.
