chimpburger··on Early Retirement May Speed Up Cognitive Decline: Study
Stop freaking out. It's just a UI.
chimpburger··on Deep Sleep May Help the Brain Clear Alzheimer's Toxins
Eliminate caffeine. Increase consumption of animal products. My sleep quality improved significantly after switching to a 90% carnivore diet.
chimpburger··on Early Retirement May Speed Up Cognitive Decline: Study
LOL. Downvoted? I think most people browsing HackerNews will not be freaked out by minor UI changes 30 years from now. Even a 3 year old child can figure out how to use an iPad.

There haven't been any fundamentally new concepts in computing for decades
chimpburger··on Statistics have lost their power (2017)
WTC7, a solid steel 47-story building, spontaneously disintegrated and collapsed symmetrically into its footprint at near free-fall speed. This was due to small fires on the ground level, not the government.

EDIT: small fires at ground level have caused perfect symmetric demolitions of many skyscrapers since WTC7. This is why small fires are now the preferred method of demolition.

chimpburger··on We Have Ruined Childhood
"Hateful" is such a corny overused word these days. Childish exaggeration.
chimpburger··on Giving up on Julia (2016)
Exactly. This article is so ridiculous. Benchmarking "Hello world" performance? What a joke.

Anything that Java is used for
chimpburger··on History and Effective Use of Vim
Yes I have used plain Vim as a text editor for many years. It's a great text editor. I know it was also used for writing code back in the old days. For working on large modern JVM codebases, however, Vim is a toy in comparison to IDEA. Vim is for manipulating syntax. IDEA has advanced semantic features that will remain far outside of Vim's domain.
chimpburger··on Ask HN: What are the “best” codebases that you've encountered?
That's not what I said.

The Q3 bot AI was written by this man https://doomwiki.org/wiki/J.M.P_van_Waveren_(MrElusive)

chimpburger··on Ask HN: What are the “best” codebases that you've encountered?
Redis is widely used in production environments. The code quality matters.
chimpburger··on History and Effective Use of Vim
You can install IdeaVim in PyCharm. I've been using IdeaVim with IntelliJ for 6 years and could never go back to non-vim style editing. This plugin provides the best of both worlds.
chimpburger··on Subway Got Too Big – Franchisees Paid a Price
You sound like you're on the autistic spectrum, struggling to understand basic human social interactions like some kind of hyper analytical artificial intelligence. The server was being helpful, not bossy. That was a great example of customer service going beyond reasonable expectations.

The OP could have said "no thanks" and continued with his original order. Simple as that. It seems that your social cognitive circuitry is overloaded by someone acting like an actual person instead of a simple robot.

He was referring to the K7 architecture which includes the Athlon XP brand.
chimpburger··on $499 AMD Ryzen 9 3900X Almost as Fast as $2000 Intel Core I9-9980XE
I thought I made this clear in my previous response. Apple is already highly competitive in processor design. The A12X matches the mid range processors from AMD and Intel. AMD does not own a fab. Apple doesn't need to own a fab either.

It turns out they are going ahead with this plan already https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-02/apple-is-...

chimpburger··on Boeing's 737 Max software outsourced to lower-paid engineers
Dead meaning that, in my opinion, they have sold their soul to Satan. Boeing was previously at the apex of engineering. The 747 was a respectable achievement in 1968. The MAX debacle has exposed a catastrophic fall in engineering standards.
chimpburger··on $499 AMD Ryzen 9 3900X Almost as Fast as $2000 Intel Core I9-9980XE
$17 billion is peanuts for Apple. However, Apple uses TSMC for fabrication and they are already at 7nm. No need to own fabs. AMD doesn't own fabs either. The Apple designed A12X Bionic processor contains 10 billion transistors and is already competitive with desktop processors from AMD and Intel. Do you think it would be that difficult for Apple to design a desktop or laptop version? They have more than enough money to hire all of the smartest engineers on the planet. The problem would be backwards compatibility, like the transition from PPC to x86 in 2005.
chimpburger··on Boeing's 737 Max software outsourced to lower-paid engineers
Yes it means I would be forced to fly on a shitty plane built by junior engineers. Living life in the danger zone.
chimpburger··on $499 AMD Ryzen 9 3900X Almost as Fast as $2000 Intel Core I9-9980XE
You're probably right. But don't underestimate Apple. They have $250 billion in cash reserves.
chimpburger··on Boeing's 737 Max software outsourced to lower-paid engineers
Irrelevant. If Airbus is doing the same, then they are also dead to me.
chimpburger··on Boeing's 737 Max software outsourced to lower-paid engineers
"Rabin, the former software engineer, recalled one manager saying at an all-hands meeting that Boeing didn’t need senior engineers because its products were mature."

Boeing is dead to me.

1994 is a long time after 1990 for computer prices. Moores law was in full effect in the 90s.

Why are you projecting this hostility? I don't perceive China as an enemy. I live in New Zealand. China is a major trading partner. I'm just stating facts as I see it. China has made unprecedented economic growth by leveraging existing science and technology developed in western capitalist regimes. Virtually none of the science and engineering fundamentals were invented in China. They are catching up and may overtake at some point. All of this was explained to me by a Chinese immigrant (university lecturer) back in 2011.

I suggest you try read things more objectively. Filter out the unnecessary emotion from your interpretations.

chimpburger··on Zhaoxin KX-6000 CPUs Purportedly Match Intel's Core I5-7400 in Performance
You are totally confused. I'm not talking about Chinese as a race of people. I'm not saying that Chinese people are inherently incapable. I'm talking about the Chinese government REGIME and its inferior economic ideology. Their communist ideology has stifled true innovation. Western capitalism is blatantly, demonstrably superior.
chimpburger··on Zhaoxin KX-6000 CPUs Purportedly Match Intel's Core I5-7400 in Performance
Voted down. How exactly am I wrong? Even Chinese people agree. 60 million Chinese people were starved to death under the communist regime last century, while the Americans were inventing microprocessors and launching rockets to the moon.
chimpburger··on Zhaoxin KX-6000 CPUs Purportedly Match Intel's Core I5-7400 in Performance
China have only achieved this result using fundamental science, technology and engineering concepts that were invented in the US, Europe, and Japan, with the unfair advantage of ultra cheap labour costs. They have people working like slaves in factories using copied/outsourced/stolen ideas. There is no evidence that their regime could have matched what the Americans have invented from scratch.

Chrome was initially perceived as innovative and more cutting edge than Firefox and IE, for its modern UX and superior architecture. It was objectively faster in benchmarks https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2008/09/hands...
