Lots of NDAs involved!
Have tried to get them to stop with no success!
You find a video, with a song, that you vibe with. Now, click on the bottom right sound graphic and you can watch ALL the videos produced with that sound and vibe.
It is part of the core product!
So good it's hard to describe :)
They typically make more offers than roles they have available, as they have fairly good analytics around what % of offers will not be filled post acceptance (ie someone simply never shows up for day 1 of work).
Now, fast forward to today, and as you've heard in the press, and from Amazon directly, they are slowing hiring and may even do cuts in the new year. I think what you're seeing is in some areas they may be over running offers, and need to pull back and kill some post acceptance to correct based on the new reality of hiring forecasts.
Still sucks and is a shitty situation.
OH YEAH, APPLE IS PROBABLY USING SAP ON THE BACKEND!!!!!!
NO WAY DUDE THEY WOULD NEVER DO THAT!!!!!!!!!
Good times.
There are F500s that have 1k mainframes each, today, in 2022.
I've loved your writing here over the years on math and physics topics.
I did my undergrad in physics, but then went in to corp america.
Curious if you are, or did you work with, Norman Waite? I read some of his papers in a few classes and you made reference to similar and adjacent works a few times.
I hadn't thought of him for a long time but then later in my career was using some IBM kit and came across another of his research/conference papers.
Threads crossing in time, I feel like your writing is similar :)
Do kids these days not realize you can negotiate anything and everything with your vendors/suppliers/partners?
Yes, most SaaS companies LOVE it when you sign up for one of their standard plans, using THEIR standard T&C's, and standard payments.
But, DID YOU KNOW, if something is critical to your business, you can negotiate directly with pretty much every business on the face of the planet, and if your spend is large enough, or you're willing to pay, you can negotiate anything????
It's nuts, I know :)))))
But the real question to determine if it's a viable product/business is does it drive enough value that people will actually buy it, use it, and remain paying customers?
I'd say in your example above, it likely won't massively decrease costs (the salespeople are still having to interact with a CRM) or drive increased incremental revenue in any real way.
Most of the voice solutions I've seen kind of nibble around the edges of this, don't get traction, and slowly die a slow death somewhere deep in the middle of the RFP or evaluation process.

For domestic transfers, appears free per your linked article:
"As long as you have your bank’s routing and account number, you can transfer funds to your bank account without paying a fee in the following ways
Transfer funds online at mctrpayment.com Transfer funds using the Money Network Mobile App Transfer funds by calling 1-800-240-0223"
This is basic stuff easily remedied by corrected exit package details if it did in fact happen.
Where do you think all the AWS and Goog sales folks hail from?
Hint - the same places as MS sales folks and every other company!
In enterprise land, AWS and Goog are frequently dismissed as they are still relatively immature in how they engage and navigate large orgs, if they even try.
MS (and Oracle and even IBM still to some extent) walk around and laugh all the way to the bank signing 9 and 10 figure deals.
Straightforward to you may still be magic to most non-tech people. They will pay an insane premium to not have to worry about this type of stuff.
Once everything is public, and you have nothing to hide, it is very difficult to be blackmailed or coerced in the traditional ways govts have thought about this tactic.
Something like 10-20 drugs make up like 80% of the maintenance meds dispensed in the US daily.
Supply chain efficiencies like this were monetized 20+ years ago by most of the major PBMs/health plans (look at their 'mail order dispensing pharmacies' to see them in action).
Doing a regionalized fulfillment play for your high volume geographies will likely save hundreds of millions in opex i'm guessing.
Will be curious to see if WBA can scale as quickly as they want here. I'm sure there are many industry partners who could lend a hand :)
And yes, marketing/ad budgets will likely get cut across all sectors (some more than others) during a recession. It's one line item among many that companies will flex up or down depending on macroeconomic conditions, as well as the position/health of their individual firm.
If you know, you know!!!!
Ha, ha, this gave me flashbacks to reading the X12 834 spec for healthcare transactions when it first came out.
What you are seeing here is essentially part of the claims adjudication process output.
This takes as input the procedure (ie the ICD/CPT code) and the provider, and runs it against the 'plan design' (which essentially is what includes the provider networks and the associated negotiated rates per procedure) and outputs the resultant cost.
Same can be done on the PBM side, just substitute drug for procedure, and 'formulary' for 'plan design'.
The interesting question when you look at cross plan, cross provider, and cross carrier variances, is why :)
Many companies, careers, and lawsuits, are being born from this data drop. Will be fun times the next decade or so to see how this plays out.
All the big consultancies are pushing it, travel sector (eg airlines, hotels, conference circuit folks) are pushing it, corp real estate and related service sector (think Aramark and other bigCo service companies) are pushing it, etc.
All these folks are on site in your BigCo HQ week in, week out, talking to your senior execs who are predominantly white men 50+ years old, trying to convince them this is like an existential crisis only they can solve and which will supercharge their firm for the next 25 years.
I've seen this shit up close and it's real. Big money and big egos pushing this agenda.
It will happen, just a matter of how long it takes.
Unofficially they are your sales AE hooking you up outside of work :)
We found most (not all!) devices typically have a way to turn this stuff off. Sometimes can turn off the exterior signal lights too.
The other thing we did that we ended up really liking was removing our doorbell. We live in a fairly urban part of our city and that really helped cut down on the random noises.
You think those execs really did all those things they said they did?
Some interesting rabbit holes to explore if you google that phrase.
One of my favorite small(er) Saas ERP vendors has a good 101 on the topic:
https://www.netsuite.com/portal/resource/articles/inventory-...
I reached out to maybe 7 or 8 dealers, had a couple that refused to provide a total itemized cost, and then got back 5 quotes that varied quite a bit (like $7500 on a $30k car).
Did one round of negotiation which ended up lowering the lowest price another thousand bucks or so and went with that dealership.
Why would I spend 100x the cost to buy an internally developed solution that is barely an MVP product when I could buy a market leading, polished, SaaS product from a vendor who takes me out to dinner and ballgames? They also have implementation and professional service teams to help install said product quickly and efficiently, and many third party consulting firms if I need even more help (they take me out to dinner too!).
Oh, also the vendor doesn't yell at me like the internal IT teams do :)
Quite the conundrum for sure!
Would love to know which execs approved this at Capital One and what happens when they leave and everyone's air cover is gone?
