chekibreki··on I said no and Apple said yes
If you honestly can't see the blatant and absolute anti-AI rhetoric in his post (I provided a citation) and the banners, then there really is no reason to continue this discussion.
chekibreki··on I said no and Apple said yes
I see the dangers of AI and agree that many companies don’t value our privacy and do what’s best for them and not us, but…

…this is an emotional dogmatic post. „All of this garbage“ clearly shows that the author is stuck in the past. The banners on the website confirm this. It’s the figurative fanatic complaining about those black steam devils and their tracks that nobody needs and that destroy nature. Yeah, steam trains were noisy and created smoke, but the age of horses was over. No emotional outburst would have stopped that, and won’t stop AI now.

The unconditional and emotional rejection of AI undermines the actual valid point he is trying to make.

chekibreki··on Noodle Gallery – Self-hosted photo and video manager forked from Immich
Is it possible to integrate Noodle into iOS, i.e. upload new photos into noodle automatically, browse them on the iPhone and if I delete them on my iPhone sync this deletion to the server? AFAIK iOS discriminates against non-Apple apps and does not let them run background jobs.
chekibreki··on GrapheneOS says Pixel 11 has MTE support after all
For anyone else not knowing what MTE stands for:

> Memory safety bugs, which are errors in handling memory in native programming languages, are common code issues. They lead to security vulnerabilities as well as stability problems.

>Armv9 introduced the Arm Memory Tagging Extension (MTE), a hardware extension that allows you to catch use-after-free and buffer-overflow bugs in your native code.

chekibreki··on Show HN: Argentic – An L402 Lightning toll booth for AI scraping agents
There is no prosecution. AFAIU, you’re simply denied access without payment. HTTP code 402 is „payment required“. You‘re basically buying an access token for one hour.
chekibreki··on KDE at 30
Yes, it matters. You can try to distract and do as much mental gymnastics as you want but everyone rational can clearly see that one thing is doing politics for software (free drivers, open source, no DRM, …) and the other is about virtue signaling about subjects that are completely unrelated.

Btw, feel free to label me however you want (others did already), which shows that they have no arguments and resort to pidgeonholeing and name calling.

chekibreki··on KDE at 30
Your comparison is dishonest and wrong. printer drivers are a piece of software, sexual orientation is completely disconnected from software or technology.
chekibreki··on KDE at 30
I lament the times when open source projects were open source software projects instead of political platforms for people who arrogantly think that their private political opinion is important enough to overshadow the project they participate in.

This will undoubtedly create tensions and will lead to fewer donations, thus having a negative impact on KDE.

chekibreki··on Kaiju – General purpose 3D/2D game engine in Go and Vulkan with built in editor
Can you explain? AFAIK Godot uses C++ under the hood which does not have garbage collection. Other languages such as C# and GDScript use bindings.
chekibreki··on Migrating the main Zig repository from GitHub to Codeberg
Another software project feels it’s necessary to dive into divisive politics when it should just make good software. It’s sad, really. Now what I think of when I hear „Zig“ is a community of self-important, immature and delusional people instead of thinking about the undeniable advantages of the Zig language.
chekibreki··on Bluetooth 6.2 – more responsive, improves security, USB comms, and testing
Is it really that hard to increase the bandwidth in 2025 to get mic quality that doesn’t sound awful? Opus can be really efficient at low bitrates AFAIK.
chekibreki··on Portmaster 1.0 – Open-Source Network Monitor and Privacy Firewall
What exactly is this? Windows application firewall? Network proxy I install on a separate computer? Is it available for other operating systems? I skimmed though the website and am already annoyed because I didn’t find answers to those simple questions.
chekibreki··on Chaos Computer Club saves the German healthcare system 400M Euros
tl;dr

To transfer patient data between doctors and (state) insurance companies, doctor‘s offices need to have a hardware VPN device. The system was implemented by the company „gematic“. A small number of companies produce these devices.

The certificates on these devices expire after five years. Now, instead of simply updating the certificates, the companies want the state and the doctors to buy new devices which costs around 400 million.

The CCC firstly explained that this is bullshit and a total waste of money and secondly showed that it is easy to update the devices. They could do it themselves but only need the private key from gematic.

chekibreki··on Why you can’t tickle yourself
Check the Sponsorblock extension for Firefox. It not only blocks sponsor segments but also has a „jump to highlight“ function which jumps directly to the answer of the (clickbait) video title.
chekibreki··on The next generation of Materialize
Can someone please explain, without technical buzzwords, what Materialize is?

I checked the docs but they mention streaming DB, Timely and Differential Dataflow which I don't know either.

chekibreki··on Signal TLS Proxy
That’s some lazy FUD. But even if that were true and the contacts weren’t encrypted and PIN entry not rate limited: What do you propose as an alternative?
chekibreki··on Betterbird: a fine-tuned version of Mozilla Thunderbird
Don’t see anything wrong with this post and he’s definitely not a „dick“ here. Criticism is not the same as negativity.
chekibreki··on Makers of ad blockers and browser privacy extensions fear the end is near
$title = $title + „for Chrome users“.
chekibreki··on A man who uploaded 2M videos to YouTube [video]
Most developed countries have unlimited quotas for their Internet plans. The US seems to be an exception.
chekibreki··on Apple employees criticize work-from-home policy in open letter
You are right, I will apply to Apple, because I don't like working from home.
chekibreki··on Dutch scandal serves as a warning for Europe over risks of using algorithms
Are you sure you’re not mixing up the Netherlands with Ireland?
chekibreki··on Dutch scandal serves as a warning for Europe over risks of using algorithms
I hate how the correlation between income/country of origin and fraud probability is discarded as „racist“ by at least Amnesty International.

Maybe we should first do a correlation and causality analysis and see what it yields instead of closing our eyes because of PC?

chekibreki··on Elementary OS is imploding
This is sad to read, but I could never take Elementary OS seriously, due to the custom browser.

Not using Firefox (or even Chromium) is inexcusable. The higher integration of the custom browser (whose name I can't remember) does not even come close to outweighing the omission of Firefox with all of its mature features and add-ons. The browser is arguably the most important piece of software in a desktop PC.

Yes, I know I can install it. But then it is not integrated nicely and then why use Elementary OS at all?

chekibreki··on Show HN: What do you think of my new social app?
How exactly is post encryption implemented? How do viewers decrypt the content (key management)? Where is it decrypted? In the browser? Server-side?

In the end for me the question is: How can I trust you to not leak my private posts? Why should I not continue using Signal groups? I realize that I’m probably not your main target group.
