chejazi··on Meta to release open-source commercial AI model
Yea the weights are the secret sauce that OpenAI and competitors generally protect.
chejazi··on 2,200 forgotten vintage computers from a barn in Massachusetts
> For those reading this who haven’t bought a new-in-box retro computer lately, $59.99 is fall-out-of-your-chair cheap, but Pellegrini has largely avoided price-gouging. Only recently did he increase the price to $99.99.

Looks like they've raised prices a few times since. Latest listing by them is at $180:

It is truly painful to watch narcissists rewrite their stories.
chejazi··on Joint statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC
And yet, socializing any potential losses across banks (as opposed to homeowners, back in 2008) feels like the appropriate move.

chejazi··on An Update on USDC and Silicon Valley Bank
I assume you're deriving the 23¢ from the 23% they have banked, but I would like to note that of that 23%, roughly a third (3.3bn of 9.7bn) was with SVB. The rest was with other banks not facing the same issue.
chejazi··on Why Solana was decimated by Bankman-Fried’s downfall
Centralized projects are more likely to be deemed securities. If that were to happen with a coin Coinbase actively trades, they would be in legal trouble.

I am not a history expert but it is interesting to hear that re: Rome, given the author's background

> Ugo Bardi is professor of physical chemistry at the University of Florence, Italy. He is a full member of the Club of Rome, an international organization dedicated to promoting a clean and prosperous world for all humankind, and the author, among other books, of The Seneca Effect (2017), Before the Collapse (2019), and The Empty Sea (2021).

chejazi··on Long-dormant Bitcon wallet comes online
Generally you aren't limited in how much you can sell. If Tesla deposits $270m worth, the exchange won't stop them from selling. I think you mean withdraw (there are pretty strict limits on how much you can withdraw)
chejazi··on Long-dormant Bitcon wallet comes online
Epic - you should mint those emails.
chejazi··on Let’s talk about founder compensation
> Some founders create structured equity that only pays out after the company’s stock appreciates significantly. Other CEOs have out-of-the-money options (Elon Musk is famous for this).

I looked up OTM options and it looks very similar to the first sentence. Basically, you (the founder) tie your compensation to the success of the company. You win big if the company wins big. Can anyone disambiguate the two situations in the quote further?

chejazi··on I made $50K in three days with NFTs
A lot of dunking happening here - titles like this article's can definitely turn people away, as people have learned that money means something (undesirably) different in "crypto." That said, the article does provide a pretty good job documenting the creative process, the path to minting, and the launch of a campaign. I encourage anyone interested in the space to get past the triggering headline and give it a read.

edit: looks like the submission got flagged/removed from the feed on HN. sigh

chejazi··on OpenSea product chief accused of flipping NFTs with insider information
Oh man. This level of shame for someone not used to it (e.g. not a public figure) will certainly lead to some trauma.
chejazi··on Discord Launches Threads
> (collapsable and deep-linkable)

I see other major differences. Discord and other chat-apps invite much more real time participation than the other two you just mentioned. Also discord you have to be logged in to be part of a server, not much casual lurking going on.

chejazi··on On anyone-can-spend Pay-to-Taproot outputs before activation
Ah, a soft fork focused on SegWit transactions. Every time I try and follow along with the latest in Bitcoin I just don't get that excited. I think that's part of the point, though. "Hard money" and all.

chejazi··on The unreasonable effectiveness of just showing up everyday
For me, mostly work issues. While I find pot is great for interpersonal relationship building, I've struggled with the following while smoking and running a startup:

* I can't prioritize tasks properly (both within work and outside e.g. fitness)

* I become passive as a leader, which isn't good leadership

* I evaluate situations based on emotional resonance rather than factual data

There are more, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind. These led to bad decisions, poor productivity, and ultimately hurting my trust with the team.

chejazi··on The unreasonable effectiveness of just showing up everyday
> If you're doing the few simple errors in judgment, time will expose you, no matter how well you appear to be doing right now.

Like smoking pot. I love smoking pot, but wow can it cascade errors in judgment (only realized upon looking back)

chejazi··on On Smoking
Here are the steps I took that have helped me not smoke for the past 1.5yrs:

1. Switched from cigarettes (great taste) to an iqos (disgusting taste).

2. Threw away my iqos the day before I moved countries (back to my home country).

3. Arrived in new country around new years, set that new years resolution.

4. Spent first 1-2 months of new year living with my parents while I searched for housing.

Aside from the resolution, each step wasn't particularly aimed at quitting _forever_. With time under my belt, I've since adopted a hardline "no cigarettes for life" mentality. It comes at the cost of being overly judgmental of others who are smoking. It keeps me in check though; otherwise, I sense that a relapse is far too easy.

It's not like the "New Taylor version" will be valued completely independently of the previous "Taylor version."
