chaostheory··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
1. Unless all you play is a sit down driving or flying simulator, the wires will get in your way. You can mitigate it with ceiling and wall pulleys, but it's still a really terrible experience that kills immersion.

2. Fitness. If you're moving and turning a lot, you're just going to hate wires. Your arms will slam into them and you'll almost trip on them and pull your computer down.

Wireless to a desktop isn't perfect, but it's doable. Stand alone is ideal if you don't the visuals being turned down a bit.

Wired is only great if you're sitting down, playing driving or flying simulators. If you ever need to turn or move, wires get annoying really fast. Even with Beat Saber, it's terrible

> It's a steep price for a niche with not a lot of games.

There are a lot of good games and unique experiences (Lone Echo). A lot of these games also get you moving i.e. you won't need to do cardio exercise if you play games. Many of these games aren't even considered fitness games

Batman

Beat Saber

Mother Gunship

Superhot

Pistol Whip

Gasland

Thrill of the Fight

Underdogs

Synth Riders

Guerilla Tag

Blade and Sorcery

Gorn

Les Mills Body Combat

FitXR

Creed

If you get a slip rig, just walking around Fallout VR or Skyrim VR will give you a lot of cardio while essentially enjoying a more immersive game than the flat screen version.

Name a popular flat screen game and there is likely a decent VR version. There are lots of good racing games and FPS's

Zero Caliber

Arizona Sunshine

Walking Dead Saints and Sinners

Bonelab

Pavlov

Breachers

Contractors

Into the Radius

Tactical Assault

It's also worth for having your own private movie theater. YouTube VR is great

There's a lot missing of games missing from my comment, and I didn't even touch on VR mods for games like Cyberpunk or even Zelda BOW

What your comment tells me is that you didn't really use VR for more than a few days.

chaostheory··on New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore
The Vancouver metro real estate and rent are roughly the same as the SF Bay Area while having a fraction of the pay

I only know this because we thought of relocating to Canada

chaostheory··on New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore
That was before the current administration. We are already below a sustainable birth rate directly thanks to policies by Miller.

> Once they figure out the ecosystem Canada

1. It is not easy to immigrate to Canada.

2. There is also a lot of anti-immigrant sentiment in Canada even from people on the left if you’re not white. Canadians just do not like Asians anymore.

3. Canada has so much red tape for business that it forces many entrepreneurial Canadians to either gravitate towards real estate, online streaming as entertainers, or simply just move down south.

chaostheory··on New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore
This isn’t a good comparison because a better comparison would be the SF Bay Area (the metro) instead of just SF. Also my point is that the Canadian cost of living is comparable to the US while simultaneously having salaries that are a fraction of the US. I believe your nurses are also going south for the same reason though a few places like Vancouver have started to subsidize their housing.
chaostheory··on New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore
Canadian salaries are terrible once you realize that the cost of living in Canada is just as high or even higher than the US, which is why a lot of Canadian engineers left for the US
chaostheory··on Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher
The problem with Fable is the price for performance. It’s so expensive that I typically blow through my subscription usage of it within 1-2 days. With ChatGPT Astral, I can use it full blast for almost a week. Same with Opus.

Same happened to Disney Plus. The newer players skewed it a lot

No, they haven’t been complaining about this pre-AI. At least not this many people. LLMs did not invent boilerplates.

If you don’t like it and you feel it doesn’t bring value to HN, flag it.

Eventually, even IKEA becomes “collectible” and not owned by many people. For example, I can no longer find my beloved (and inappropriately named) “Jerker” line of desks which are great for walking treadmills.

EVs don’t need renewables. What makes them attractive despite the bad marketing in the West is that they can be powered by anything that can create electricity, like coal; which is something China has a lot of

The transition to EVs is key to the national security of many countries that currently do not have energy security like China and even most if not all member countries in the EU.

chaostheory··on Grok Bot
It's a great idea, but the problem is with the latest versions of Grok. It's like xAI copied Google's Gemini. Grok now minimizes its effort. Like Gemini "Pro", it's become a flash model that provides shallow answers quickly.
