this is actually a really good explanation because it shows in simple pictures and words the concepts so there is no confusion. Well done.

chaosbutters··on Burger King is introducing a vegetarian patty from the start-up Impossible Foods
now can they slowly cut regular beef patties with veggie patties until consumers notice? Maybe like 5-10%?

Most food companies have slowly started doing this to reduce, sugar, calories and fat

That is my plan, invest like I will be forced to retire by 50. I mean, I'll probably pick up some 'fun' min wage job in my 50s to get social interaction. But I save heavily assuming the worst
chaosbutters··on School is all about signaling, not skill-building
yes and no. I would go to a doctor that learned medicine from medical school but when faced with an unforeseen would turn to youtube if there was a way to help a patient. And this has been shown to happen on rare occasions when patients do something incredibly stupid and rare and the doctor has no idea what to do. But if they learned all their medicine from youtube, then no. Youtube should only cover 0.00001% learning materials

HTC Vive is so much better than Oculus but anything that drives VR adoption I appreciate. Vive is set up so much quicker, has a wireless capability now and has a bigger platform in industry.

A competition between Vive, OR, and hololens in the AR/VR market would be much appreciated.

what about people that'd don't want children? Where is our (full/part) paid time off? This is the same problem restaurants have with smoke breaks. You have to give equal breaks to non-smokers.

It seems the simplest solution would just be to offer X% paid time off per Y yrs of service regardless of children/no children with the rule the employee gives the company Z months notice. That way male/female parents can figure out who stays home with kid and childless workers get the same benefit. It is basically like a sabbatical university professors get to go refine their skills. Employees get a certain amount of time/pay to go do 'life' things based on service.

doesn't matter who is president in 2020, if the senate isn't blue. And right now, it doesn't look like the senate will even hit 50/50.
chaosbutters··on How does the Hololens 2 matter?
My biggest question on it, isn't FOV, resolution, etc etc, but it is how long does it take to make content for it? A fraction of my job involves AR/VR content creation and I don't have days to program in clever features. Everything needs to be drag and drop, 1-click solutions with a few hours of programming to tidy things up. Since not only am I making content for VR/AR, but then I have to go sell its business use
chaosbutters··on Modern Weather Forecasts Are Stunningly Accurate
December-April, I check a few times a day and different sources for snow/ice since I do not feel comfortable driving and getting caught in it. The number of times increases especially if I'm traveling. So when you time-average this over the year, it makes more sense.

I feel like this is a waste of bokeh's potential and matplotlib would have sufficed. I love bokeh for the interactive capability and controlling what you plot, zooming, and just overall more immersive feeling than a static 2d plot.

Still very interesting and insightful and lovely plots generated.

chaosbutters··on The Student Loan Debt Crisis Is About to Get Worse
I agree with you more than OP. In-state for me was significantly cheaper than out of state so I applied to both in/out to see offers. I got my dream school with no support (would've been like $50k/yr) but also a good school offered me a huge scholarship that reduced it to lower than my in-state or their in-state so I went there.

I basically said I got into these 5 good schools and there isn't likely a big difference to employers, so, who is giving me the most money?

chaosbutters··on Am I Happy At Work? Analyzing my entire career

"Rick, the only connection between your unquestionable intelligence and the sickness destroying your family is that everyone in your family, you included, use intelligence to justify sickness. You seem to alternate between viewing your own mind as an unstoppable force and as an inescapable curse. And I think it's because the only truly unapproachable concept for you is that it's your mind within your control. You chose to come here, you chose to talk -to belittle my vocation- just as you chose to become a pickle. You are the master of your universe, and yet you are dripping with rat blood and feces. Your enormous mind literally vegetating by your own hand. I have no doubt that you would be bored senseless by therapy, the same way I'm bored when I brush my teeth and wipe my ass. Because the thing about repairing, maintaining, and cleaning is it's not an adventure. There's no way to do it so wrong you might die. It's just work. And the bottom line is, some people are okay going to work, and some people well, some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose."

Can we actually visit your office/research labs in NYC? One of my bosses loves this stuff and is always looking down the road. We would likely use it for advertising at our company or understanding how consumers interact with our products.
