chambo622··on Ask HN: How has volunteering helped you grow?
+1 for FIRST. I'm hooked for life.
chambo622··on Uber's VP of global vehicle programs is out
> Uber told Auto News that it was not related to the lawsuit with Waymo.

Okay

chambo622··on Twitter allegedly deleting negative tweets about United Airlines incident
Twitter had a moment filled with negative tweets about United at the top of its curated Moments tab for the entire day yesterday. Even now I see a trending hashtag and moments about the incident. If their goal was to suppress this story, they couldn't have done a worse job. These accusations sound like paranoia to me.
chambo622··on U.S. has withdrawn its request to identify a Trump critic
In what way is that description inaccurate?
chambo622··on Slack vs. Microsoft Teams vs. Google Hangouts
Feels old, clunky, and not fun to use compared to Slack. The hosted solution has also had major reliability problems over the past 6-12 months (may not apply if you use the on-prem offering). The mobile apps are very outdated and tend to botch notifications and message delivery/syncing.

On the bright side, the desktop client uses very little RAM compared to Slack.

chambo622··on Square Buys OrderAhead
I wonder if this means Square doesn't have much headcount to fill at the moment - usually you'd expect to see them find roles for the employees in a deal like this.
chambo622··on Ask HN: How would you turn Twitter around?
> [Periscope is] a great platform but I think it also needs a desktop client (with OBS support, the way Twitch does) to allow the caliber of content creation to go up.

You can broadcast from OBS with Periscope Producer - https://help.periscope.tv/customer/en/portal/articles/260029...

chambo622··on Ask HN: How would you turn Twitter around?
This already exists - promoted tweets
chambo622··on Airbnb finalizes deal to buy social payments startups Tilt
Thanks, I misread your comment. Agreed.
chambo622··on Inside Uber’s Aggressive, Unrestrained Workplace Culture
Mike Isaac produces top notch reporting. Worth supporting NYT for articles like this and many others.
chambo622··on Airbnb finalizes deal to buy social payments startups Tilt
What "big market" did Tilt "nail"? Haven't heard much about them in a long time.
chambo622··on Amicus brief on behalf of 97 tech companies
If nothing more, this brief is very informative for those wanting to understand the issues at play here - a good jumping off point to case law, historical context, and current news.
chambo622··on Apple, Google, and 95 other tech firms join forces to fight Trump travel ban
Seems that this should point directly to the brief itself:

chambo622··on Why Our Super Bowl Ad Failed
The tweets mentioning the commercial could be real - apparently it doesn't cost much to run a super bowl ad in a very small area.

chambo622··on Should Twitter and Facebook Be Regulated as Utilities?
Poor guy thinks a follower saying they don't see his tweets is an indicator of a vast conspiracy against him by a large corporation.
chambo622··on Testing Ads in Facebook Messenger
Maybe this will be the tipping point that gets everyone to switch to Allo
chambo622··on Oracle laying off hundreds in Santa Clara
Does anyone track the frequency and size of layoffs from tech companies? It certainly feels that there has been a notable uptick in layoff news over the past 6-12 months.
chambo622··on Welcoming Fabric to Google
What about them?
chambo622··on Best Practices for Time Travelers (2003)
Or is it?
chambo622··on Google Play starts rolling out to Chrome OS stable
What do you mean by the performance boost of Android media players? Do they perform better on Chrome OS than watching video in the browser? I'd imagine that in a lot of cases, the max bitrate served to mobile clients may be lower than the web, although I'm not sure this is true for all the services you named.
chambo622··on How Writing To-Do Lists Helps Your Brain
My company uses Quip and I'm very happy with it as well. Thinking of moving some of my personal notes and lists from Keep over to Quip. Although I'd give Keep the leg up for simple, quick notes on mobile (and their predictive entry for grocery lists is fantastic)
chambo622··on Taking the final wrapper off of Android 7.0 Nougat
This makes me want to buy one to replace my ADT-1...which is not easy to do these days.

I sure hope there is a future for standalone Android TV boxes that aren't as expensive and large as the Shield.

chambo622··on Snapchat Passes Twitter in Daily Usage
At some level _every_ service is competing with every other for users' time. But at some point, such comparisons become meaningless.
chambo622··on Mary Meeker's 2016 Internet Trends Report [pdf]
This is fascinating, and also sounds like an extremely high-risk situation from a malware perspective. Isn't Facebook Lite [1] supposed to address this? I'm surprised they haven't solved distribution in these markets.

chambo622··on Show HN: Phone verification at no cost
Similar to Twitter's Digits, which has been around for a while and seems quite popular. https://get.digits.com
chambo622··on Tesla will not be able to scale its manufacturing capacity
It's been years and there is no credible competitor to the Model S. Maybe it will be different with the Model 3, but until an equivalent car is on the road I'm not sure I agree with your statement. The Bolt - a nice car, and I've test driven it - is just so clearly sub-par compared to what Tesla is aiming for with the Model 3 that I would not consider it a true alternative.
chambo622··on Putting the Tesla HEPA Filter and Bioweapon Defense Mode to the Test
It amazes me that comments like this, more commonly seen in the comment sections on second-tier news sites, exist even on HN.
chambo622··on Why Uber Won
Curious what you mean by the quality of service dropping? I use both Lyft and Uber pretty regularly (multiple times a week) and have had only positive experiences in SF.
chambo622··on Apple's amusingly round reuse figures
In the US, significant figures are included in standard high school science courses. That doesn't mean they aren't forgotten though.
chambo622··on Hey Android, why no love for UTC?
Do the Locale-related changes in Android N improve this?
