I’m currently in a situation where my large tech company has clear criteria to be promoted and I am already measurably doing all of the things the next level does
Despite this, my manager says I won’t be promoted unless the other two people at the level above me “like” me
So despite meeting our company’s exact requirements for promotion that they do to make the process “fair”, I am being held at my level indefinitely until two people decide they like me as a person
Just ranting I guess. Not sure if anyone can relate / has advice here
I’ve been applying to a few roles and getting a good amount of callbacks without submitting a cover letter or anything.
My friend is a FAANG recruiter and basically says he doesn’t have time to read them so they don’t matter to him personally.
Are they still a good use of time to write?
This is exactly what they were doing in Texas right up until the moment the Blizzard hit last year.
Suddenly electricity became unavailable (because you know, giant blizzard), and consequently it was something like $6000 a kw/hr[1] for some users
Your market force solution for electricity pricing almost bankrupted me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Teams is bundled with Office 365 to steal marketshare from other companies like Discord who charge a bit more and are a stand alone service. It’s why Salesforce bought Slack.
CFOs at Fortune 500 companies want to be efficient with their spending so they won’t buy an extra license if their existing bundle is “good enough”
Teams is “good enough” so Microsoft doesn’t invest in it as much as other more profitable areas
Ex: the 10 meters mentioned above
Kindles can only (easily) do what Amazon wants it to do —full stop.
It’s like the iPhone before the App Store.
I bet Amazon would make a massive amount of money if they opened up their ecosystem to let others develop on top of it
Windows 10, Z170-A motherboard with driver for built in audio
Tried different cables, inputs (optical vs aux etc) installing different drivers, old drivers, new drivers, nothing fixes it
Super annoying when I want to listen to spotify or YouTube or anything
People there despite already being in startups were super excited and interested in other peoples businesses
I had a founder try to poach me at one point, so it’s real enough
If there’s any kind of hub for startups in your city, start there.
If not, check meetup.com or start your own. You’re certainly not alone and there’s definitely (literal) value in being the guy who brings founders together
My domains are currently split between the two
Might as well move my stuff over if it means avoiding things like this
What possible advantages are there to buying the resource that literally keeps the lights on from a country that you have conflicts with?
Seems like they’re basically printing double the existing stock to cover it
Also, some of the best security researchers I know never went to college. So people with non-traditional academic backgrounds are excluded from this which is a bummer
Suddenly then you have “the segments”
The netsec person in me says we probably shouldn’t be downloading PDFs/epubs from the servers of literal North Korean Government sites…
I’m in the job interview process right now
Looking at a pre-IPO company with RSUs
Does this mean that I pay taxes on those RSUs when I get them, _even_ if I don’t sell them?
like patent trolls for a cause
Google is just one example of this. Any company now has a pathway to do so.
I think this is terrible incentives, and destroys the goal of having an Encyclopedia free from interference where only truth can come through
You could make a lot of money selling these...
