cevn··on Jazz Comping (2021)
If you can play it slow, you can play it fast.

Start by listening to music you like, then pick an instrument. Copy what they did, note by note, but 100x slower. It may not be fun at first, but you will pick up speed slowly, and soon, you're making music, and maybe you'll learn something along the way.

cevn··on Llama 2
Hm... might have to check that out as well, I love sci fi too.. Hopefully he likes the books more than the show, hah.
cevn··on Llama 2
Sounds about right now that you mention it. Time for a re read I guess.. :)
cevn··on Llama 2
This sounds pretty good according to my memory. I did think it was first mentioned earlier than Path of Daggers. I don't remember it being used in The Last Battle but that was a pretty long chapter ...
cevn··on PhotoPrism: AI-powered photos app for the decentralized web
Fair enough, maybe image processing is just something I have not dealt with much and it is no coincidence that the two image hosting services are the ones with Docker oriented processes.
cevn··on PhotoPrism: AI-powered photos app for the decentralized web
90% of my services work fine without Docker. Mastodon, Lemmy, Peertube, Caddy, Forgejo, Jellyfin, and Plex. Immich also has a way of installing w/o docker from source but it isn't documented, I don't mean to single them out because the app is great otherwise.

A developer must have had a working config at some point to create the Dockerfile. Providing literally only the Dockerfile is usually just a sign of throwing hands up and saying "It's too hard!".. you should be able to package for at least one platform that isn't Docker. That's just app development, or at least it was until recently.

cevn··on PhotoPrism: AI-powered photos app for the decentralized web
Full agreement, Immich has a similar problem. I don't know at what point basic systemd services stopped being enough but docker is usually a non starter for me.
cevn··on Microsoft denies data breach, theft of 30M customer accounts
That works for the initial logon attempt, but after that the computer was locked in “S mode” where it doesnt allow you to install anything. In order to get chrome running we had to do the above.
cevn··on Microsoft denies data breach, theft of 30M customer accounts
In order to get out of using the M$ft account for my dad on win11 I had to disable secure boot, use regedit, etc and it was all very dark and time consuming. Microsoft is The Worst.
cevn··on More than 75% of Steam games tested are playable or verified on the Steam Deck
Best gaming device ever. I find it funny that some are complaining about the heat. When I am cold I fire up Dune Spice Wars and now I have a portable heater for 2 hours.
cevn··on A Dialog in Real Time (Strategy)
Strange choice to release an article about RTS without mentioning Starcraft. I still play frequently as do plenty others, despite naysayers claiming the genre as dead for 5+ years. Stormgate coming out soon will hopefully scratch the itch for a sequel.
cevn··on Tesla on track to smash targets after producing almost a million EVs in 6 months
Anecdata, my recent Tesla is better and worse in some ways - well put together, slight panel gaps, but some edges are sharp enough to cut myself on. Wonder what service will say.

If you are looking for build quality I would still look elsewhere. Tesla is literally cutting corners.

cevn··on The 'fuck you' pattern (2021)
I had something similar today with Microsoft. Just to use their OS, MS tried to force me to log into an account. After signing out and back in, I was able to bypass the prompt.
cevn··on Has Xbox lost the console wars?
Mostly exclusives. XBox used to be synonymous with Halo. Microsoft shit the bed with that franchise so Sony took over.
cevn··on Has Xbox lost the console wars?
I think GT7 would beat it out in pure racing, it also supports VR which increases the fun 10x.
cevn··on Archive your Reddit data before it's too late
It happened to me too, but I would say more an issue with the extension's logic than the site. I think it tried to reverse small-looking elements with logic that they won't be too bright.
cevn··on Electric cars prove we need to rethink brake lights
Yea the Tesla brakes work exactly how you would want. As soon as you start decelerating, even w/ regen, the lights kick in. Not sure how Hyundai messed it up after having an example..
cevn··on The Best Pens for 2023: Gel, Ballpoint, Rollerball, and Fountain Pens
I use em Left Handed. A proper notebook with fast drying pages and ink will reduce smudging but I always have some ink on my hand lol.
cevn··on Problems that attract smart people
Exactly, 'smartness' is meaningless. You can accomplish x task with y practice, applies to any task.
cevn··on Apple’s 2½ year old iPhone 12 is 6% faster than the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Same. No case either, dropped 100s of times. It has some aesthetic cracking on the back :)
cevn··on Google testing ChatGPT-like chatbot 'Apprentice Bard' with employees
That's exactly what it proves..
cevn··on 512GB 14” M2 Pro MacBook Pro has slower SSD than previous model
Hmm, I may give that a try, thanks for the tip..
cevn··on 512GB 14” M2 Pro MacBook Pro has slower SSD than previous model
That makes sense sadly. I imagine most people use LR on their desktops though. I can't fit half of my library on one of these SSDs.
cevn··on A custom-designed IDE SSD for old PCs
I have old raspis, the SD card failed.
cevn··on The James Webb Space Telescope is finding too many early galaxies
Fascinating... so we see the CMB, got it. I wonder if someone could take what seems like the random pattern of the CMB and reverse it into some vision of the BB..
cevn··on The James Webb Space Telescope is finding too many early galaxies
Can someone explain to me what would be behind the galaxies if we could see it, to the point of 0 seconds after the big bang? Black, white, is it even possible?
cevn··on System76 AMD-Only Laptop Returns
Fractional scaling is a 99% solved problem at least on KDE, even with Wayland it seems to work fine for me. Just a few apps are blurry which I don't use.
cevn··on How a razor blade can be damaged as it cuts human hair (2020)
Double Edge shaving solved a similar problem for me. I used to get irritation every time I shaved ATG but that was because I was hitting the wrong side of my face with 5 blades.. Now I can shave easily ATG just by using light pressure and doing WTG first.
cevn··on A step-by-step guide to our solar system’s demise
I was just wondering about this problem, that's an incredible solution..
cevn··on GeForce RTX 40 Series
I lost the ability to use my PC with the case closed. My Cat loves it though.
