cbtacy··on Musk feuds with Apple over Twitter advertising
Corrected Headline: Musk Raises Stink About Apple Advertising to Distract From Coming Deplatforming Due to Hate Speech, Child Pornography, etc.
cbtacy··on Being OK with not being extraordinary (2021)
1 - if you think you're extraordinary or want to be extraordinary you're almost certainly ordinary (and there is nothing wrong with that).

2 - the saddest thing about this very sad piece is the idea that "extraordinariness" is about accomplishments and success.

3 - I think it is fair to say that many actually "extraordinary" people would say that it is at best a mixed bag and not automatically something to feel jealous about. We live in a society where being "not ordinary" aka abnormal is not accommodated and often not accepted or tolerated - and where being right in the center of the bell curve of human experiences and realities means that the world is optimized for you.

cbtacy··on Tax filing websites have been sending users’ financial information to Facebook
If they have no other job prospects, are on an H1B visa, and are thus trapped at Meta I'd say "I'm so sorry." Otherwise I'd say, "You DO know you're directly contributing to the decline of humanity and destruction of millions of lives, yes?"
cbtacy··on Tax filing websites have been sending users’ financial information to Facebook
they suck. no question. all you can do is blackhole all facebook domains in your /etc/hosts file.
cbtacy··on Popular tax prep software sent financial information to Meta, report finds
And people will, again, shout and scream (performatively) before quietly going back to mainlining Facebook's divisive outrage and misinformation. SMH.
cbtacy··on Binance will not invest in crypto lender Genesis: WSJ
Tick... tick... tick...
cbtacy··on Elon Musk says Twitter is done with layoffs and ready to hire again
In all seriousness, how desperate would you have to be to entertain a job offer from Twitter right now?
cbtacy··on Mozilla revenue 2021 increases 20%
The Mozilla that sows fear and asks for money is Mozilla Foundation. The Mozilla that takes hundreds of millions for Google is Mozilla Corporation. Mozilla Foundation owns Mozilla Corporation, but with one exception they don't share employees and have very different cultures and have independent marketing.
cbtacy··on Thread: Twitter Engineers Fired for Correcting Musk

cbtacy··on Musk’s first email to Twitter staff ends remote work
Enron....
cbtacy··on FTX tapped into customer accounts to fund risky bets, setting up its downfall
They had no real board. They had no real governance. What's amazing is that large venture funds would put this much money into this kind of company without any board seats.
cbtacy··on Bitcoin falls under $16,000
So... money laundering and drug deals (again) are the only valid use cases?
cbtacy··on We will not pursue the potential acquisition of FTX
Among other things, he perjured himself in front of Congress.
cbtacy··on FTX’s financial black hole leaves Binance balking at rescue plan
ding ding ding! we have a winner!!!
cbtacy··on FTX’s financial black hole leaves Binance balking at rescue plan
This would like result in a 5 year "nuclear winter" for crypto VC FYI.
cbtacy··on NightWare helps disrupt nightmares for those with PTSD
That sounds very frustrating and difficult. I'm really sorry. Do you have good professional care? Are you in a safe place?
cbtacy··on Twitter Now Asks Some Fired Workers to Please Come Back

cbtacy··on Twitter Now Asks Some Fired Workers to Please Come Back
Can we now, at long last, kill the myth that Elon Musk is a business genius?
cbtacy··on NYT reporters had a top-down directive that tech coverage should be critical
Former NYT writer here.... NYT, as far as I know, has always had a "top-down" directive that coverage be critical. That's, you know, the job of journalism and all. Non-critical pieces are opinion, not reporting.
cbtacy··on From Google to Twitter
THANK YOU!!!!!!
cbtacy··on Twitter to start layoffs -internal email
Ummm... no. Fully burdened costs is total cash comp plus between 25% and 35% as a general rule in the US.
cbtacy··on Twitter to start layoffs -internal email
That is not universally true. Sometimes it works like that, sometimes it doesn't. Depends on the buyer and given that this particular buyer doesn't seem interested in respecting legal contracts, I wouldn't be confident that it will work with Twitter as you describe here.
cbtacy··on Twitter to start layoffs -internal email
Nothing that is going on at Twitter is "normal"
