cbradford··on Greenwald: The Leading Activists for Online Censorship Are Corporate Journalists
This is one of the few people willing to speak truth to power
cbradford··on Biden Flashes Warning to Big Tech as Antitrust Team Takes Shape
The Big Tech monopolies were enormous donors to Biden. They will get what they bought, compliance from Biden and the Democratic party. This is just stage craft to make people feel like there is a struggle, when this is just about the state and those in power fully coopting and merging with Big Tech to create a web of entrenched interests and power. Big tech will control information and use censorship to define the narrative to keep the powerful in power, and in exchange Biden and his people will ensure the monopolies of the tech companies that serve their interests.

Anyone remember "too big to fail" from 2008? Guess what our government under Obama did... Make the banks even bigger and give them implicit government guarantees. Biden learned from this and will do the same for big tech.

cbradford··on [dead]
Never in history have the people that ban books, words and thoughts been the "good guys". Why are those in power so frightened of having their power questioned?
cbradford··on 1 in 3 Americans know someone who died from Covid-19
That;s it! So 100% of the country in lockdown because only 30% even know of a person who has died? And how many of those 30% are the "friend of my cousin's friend's niece..." type knowing.
cbradford··on Ask HN: What does your BI stack look like?
Streamlit for Python and PowerBI. Great tools
cbradford··on It’s time to free ourselves from ‘Big Tech’ monopoly
This is logical and nothing new. As a country we faced the same issue in the start of the 1900s when the railroads abused their monopoly access power and created the concept of the "common carrier" to level the playing field. Let's stop pretending tech monopolies are something new or unique. We have dealt with them before (AT&T) and should use the same tools. These companies are now utilities, should be subject to FTC and other rules on common carriers and have their returns subject to regulatory oversight. Just like 90% of the rest of the economy. Time to level the playing field, and be fair to all. Tech companies wanting special exemption from rules is not right.
cbradford··on When did “privacy issues” start to mean “too much privacy”?
100% correct. Journalists are just looking for the adulation and affirmation of their fellow progressives, and do so by attacking the weak and defending the powerful.
cbradford··on Factcheckers, media worry about Clubhouse
It is time to bury the term "fact checker" for good. Just call them what they are: partisan shills

Yes I would
cbradford··on UC Berkeley Library acquires FBI records of surveillance of Black leaders
As instructed and directed by Mayor Wilson Goode. The black democrat mayor of Philadelphia.
cbradford··on MasterCard to open up network to cryptocurrencies
I thought the whole idea of Bitcoin was to get out of the financial system that Mastercard is a central piece of.
cbradford··on Facebook Downgrades WikiLeaks Article Page
You are correct, which is why facebook should be declared and utility and treated as such. Just like your power company cannot do whatever it wants for it's bottom line, neither should facebook
cbradford··on I Still Use RSS
+1 Big fan of feedly. I pray they never get bought by Google or someone that will shut them down.
cbradford··on Yellen Summons Regulators to Discuss Financial Market Volatility
What are we investigating here? If we are investigating the market structure of equities and how that effected the shut down of trading to a specific class of investors, individuals, and not others, institutions, then absolutely Citadel is a major part of that. The are the primary PFOF market maker, and the #1 counterparty to Robinhood. Not saying that did happen, not saying it didn't, but Citadel is central to any conversation around equity market structure.

When is it so vital that Yellen, who is an economist and former Fed official and not an expert at all in equity market structure, so vital to be involved in this investigation? What expertise does she have to no one on the SEC staff has?

cbradford··on Yellen Summons Regulators to Discuss Financial Market Volatility
Whether or not she should have accepted the fees is not relevant, the point is she should recuse herself from any investigation into companies that she has a personal business relationship with. That is basic ethics. What is the reason she should not recuse herself?
cbradford··on This is the Future. and It Sucks
Our elites mislead all the time without repercussions. We are almost at the anniversary of " 2 weeks to flatten the curve". They lied and children have suffered. No school, no human contact. And it was all proven to be a failure.
cbradford··on Element (Matrix chat app) suspended from the Google Play Store
I agree. There was a case that I cannot remember about a company town that banned people from handing out religious material in the town square, but the Supreme Court (I believe) decided that since the company was effectively taking the place of the government it had to abide by the same rules.

If we continue to go down this path then soon enough we will be taking away the phone and mail service of whatever group of people are out of power.

In the United States there is not such thing as "hate speech". That is settled law.
cbradford··on YouTube removes two videos from a U.S. Senate committee
"debunked conspiracy theories". Debunked by whom? Sadly the use of the term "conspiracy theory" is now just code for "facts I don't like". Given the scientific facts on the ground and the last year of data, we now know that all recommendations from the experts from masks to distancing have been failures, because the COVID infection rate is higher than ever since their introduction. So they are now "debunked conspiracy theories"
cbradford··on Element (Matrix chat app) suspended from the Google Play Store
Very happy for you guys. But do take this as a shot across the bow, if and when it serves Google's agenda to shut you down they will. You have a great service, don't let Google control you and be beholden to them.
cbradford··on Element (Matrix chat app) suspended from the Google Play Store
In theory the recent Office of Comptroller of the Currency rule banning financial discrimination should stop that. But I am sure the current administration will be quick to reverse it. They like to use all tools to go after their political enemies
cbradford··on Element (Matrix chat app) suspended from the Google Play Store
Once you throw in "hate speech" you are just saying that censorship of things you don't like is ok.

cbradford··on Delta Chat – decentralized chat via email
Looks like a very cool project. Slightly off topic question, is there a reason the email providers like FastMail or Protonmail don't just include XMPP as part of their bundle?
cbradford··on Free Speech in 2021
That is exactly how I mean "virtue signaling". If they had a few people looking to use their services, which they hold themselves out to the public to offer, and they didn't want to, then they could just say no. To post a public message about it is just a way to say "look at me world! I am a good person, doing the things that will make people like me". Some people wear burkas to show their allegiance to a way of thinking, some people post things like this. It is all a way to showing fealty.
cbradford··on Free Speech in 2021
I would respect these kind of virtual signaling messages if they provided any kind of balance. Maybe a throw away line like "whether you are in DC, or violently attempting to burn down the federal courthouse in Portland".
cbradford··on Trump’s gone quiet, Parler nuked, Twitter protest never happened
Yes. This is no different from the civil rights movement when we as a society asked, "is it right that a restaurant can refuse service to people they do not like?". In the end we decided no you cannot discriminate. Same thing needed here.
cbradford··on Amazon Echo Flex: Microphone mute button appears to be real and functional
