You can buy an android which can easily be rooted if you want They might start restricting what you can do in your PC. Let's keep both free to modify in any way we want without comparison.

Older brands have a motive to care for their reputation, because if people know *oldbrand* is bad. they will avoid *oldbrand* and it dies.

On the contrary, *insertanynonenglishnamebrand* (*newbrand*) doesn't need to have any care in the world. If the product is trash, they would replace the name next year, bonus points if they declare bankrupcy and don't pay their obligations.

Block installs outside of playstore ON/OFF (ON by default) isn't any less secure. "Sideloading" is scaremongering.

Using durable clothes for as long as they... endure. Definitely not flash fashion.

Since I live in a poor country, I am allowed to use cotton shirts until too much skin shows (hyperbole, I only allow one small hole) Then, it becomes a rag or a mop 100% of the time.

Having few stains in an worn bought-new shirt is a good indicator of not being rich and still having class.

Eco friendly means unfashionable most of the time. Smaller cars, or even public transport, god forbid.

That's why it is good to have MORE investigative media outlets, not less. Wikileaks and the Panama papers are outliers which must be facilitated.

Dictatorships abolish all free press, they don't like it. There was a quote where I live "Free press dies along democracy" and it did.

catlikesshrimp··on Hang on to Your Firefox
Not talking about you. But a white supremacist would be ok with only white people formally employed because whoever is not white wouldn't get a job without gaming the system. Pick the lesser evil.
catlikesshrimp··on Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users
There are whatsapp cracked apks which actually work as whatsapp... and they have "extras", and I would never install it, although I have seen it installed
catlikesshrimp··on Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users
AOSP is still open. The problem is nobody wants to bear the (monumental) cost of polishing and convincing brands to allow installing it in THEIR devices. Google was motivated back then for creating an alternative and openness was a good bait.
catlikesshrimp··on Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users
I am in the same boat. Keep in mind that you are trusting both google and meta. At least you can update whatsapp once every three months (for now)
catlikesshrimp··on EFF to Governor Newsom: Veto California's AB 1709
if you only "think of the children" you will forget about the rest of the population. Children will be adults most of their life, it is better to prepare them for adulthood than putting everyone in an ever shrinking and taller pen
catlikesshrimp··on EFF to Governor Newsom: Veto California's AB 1709
You aren't "anon" to the whole world. But the less information you are required to handle, the better. Never trust "but think of the children"
catlikesshrimp··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
Sounds more like they did their job well, not that they are generous.
catlikesshrimp··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
Graphene should qualify. That would be a good incentive for kids to learn to root a mobile device and run graphene on it.
catlikesshrimp··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
Can someone the exemption for browser extensions and other contained software? My best guess is that the OS > Browser are reporting the age already, and the browser extensions will also use that "signal". Is this close enough?

" third carve-out excludes storefronts distributing extensions or add-ons that run exclusively inside a host application, which takes browser extension stores out of scope."

catlikesshrimp··on Two German airport workers die of malaria after 'mosquito arrives on plane'
I live in a mosquito ladden region and some mosquitoe individuals ingest blood until they can no longer fly (they die) Many mosquitoe individuals feed until full, not necessarily from only one human.

Now, some people are more resistant to some diseases than others. Sickle cell anemia heterozygote humans can live with plasmodium alright.

What surprises me is that someone around an airport in Germany (urban area) actually died of malaria. Malaria causes intervals of very high fever which lead to hospitalization and treatment.

catlikesshrimp··on India has paved the way for charging merchants a fee on UPI transactions
It goes both ways: What if the ONLY payment method was the one approved by your "elected" government. A balance where they can all exist is the best, and most difficult decision.
