Well we don’t really know that an accelerometer is needed for input shaping for a nozzle that is only accelerating across a single plane. The mk4 nozzle only moves on one horizontal axis when printing not two like the XL and the Bambu. Not that I don’t trust your take, but Prusa usually has their ducks in a row and I expect this to be no different.

I don’t care about any features of the Bambu line and would continue with Prusa line. They are nice sure but they aren’t that much cheaper with that much better features. You didnt really mention these jaw dropping world changing features so feel free to fill me. I hope it’s more spaghetti detection.

cassac··on Nearly 20% Adults May Have Misophonia – Significant Negative Responses to Sounds
In Minnesota some people had their trailers stolen and dropped into a homeless encampment and the police refused to do anything to avoid a confrontation. Also in Minnesota one cities police refused to recover a stolen vehicle and the citizen had to get help from another jurisdiction. You can make all the noise you want but when the staffing is down 30-60% you might find you aren’t the priority. It’s what the people claim to want so it’s what they are getting.
cassac··on Nearly 20% Adults May Have Misophonia – Significant Negative Responses to Sounds
I don’t think the police will do anything about it anymore. It’s a non violent offense and in the name of de escalation, unless they are robbing a bank at the time, they will just ignore it. Sometimes they won’t even do anything if someone steals your car. I have three sets of plates on my car right now because of stripped screws and it seems nobody is willing to pull me over for it. 4 years ago I would have been pulled over I’m sure of it.

But… maybe you are right? Maybe they give everyone in the state a bike and then just make a 1 billion dollar bike path?
cassac··on Scaled-Down California Bullet Train Project $10B over Budget
It’s a ride share service, so you rent it one way, with the expectation it goes each way per day.

So that’s 700k * 2 trips * 365 days = 511 million rides annually. Even more if people bring passengers.

cassac··on Scaled-Down California Bullet Train Project $10B over Budget
No, but the roads are already budgeted to be maintained. Also the expected ridership is I assume to be composed of, at least partially, people who are already using the roads.

I just found it funny as a number because 35 bil is such a ridiculous amount for a 171 mile train.

cassac··on Scaled-Down California Bullet Train Project $10B over Budget
At 35 billion, you could buy 700k teslas, and then just let everyone drive themselves.

It’s probably because the bribes are compounding at each level.

cassac··on Rivian announces 1B gross loss and 600M revenue [pdf]
I guess I could agree to disagree? For the market as a whole maybe it is dented. But that quarter panel that got dented is straight wrecked.

Nobody likes car dealerships anyway so nobody misses that. The new trend amongst the kids these days is buying cars without even test driving them.

My point is that Rivian could easily find a crack that would allow them to be profitable and it wouldn’t even need to be as big as Teslas.

cassac··on Rivian announces 1B gross loss and 600M revenue [pdf]
I don’t think those are fully like to like comparisons though. You have to run those numbers just for electric. Nobody I know would cross shop a Tesla and a Rav 4. They can have their margins on their ICE catalog but they don’t have it on their electric yet even with the dealer network numbers added in.
cassac··on Rivian announces 1B gross loss and 600M revenue [pdf]
I agree it was risky, and close to failing, but that’s what usually happens with great things. I don’t think any other car company that makes electric cars would say they aren’t playing catch up with Tesla. They seem to perpetually be a few years behind.

I was just making my comment based on the parent comment saying it couldn’t be done. It’s done all the time in every segment.

Never underestimate the bean counters from ruining the incumbents.

cassac··on Rivian announces 1B gross loss and 600M revenue [pdf]
But their owners love them and the kids love them. If you adjust the market to be just for what they do, electric cars and not all cars, they are indeed wrecking them.

It was a segment the ICE car manufacturers mostly ignored and now they have profitable competition where it didn’t exist before. Maybe not wrecked but definitely lold.

cassac··on Rivian announces 1B gross loss and 600M revenue [pdf]
They may be over valued but everybody is absolutely playing catch-up and are quite a bit away from their profit margins.

What’s even worse for the legacy companies is Tesla is the Kleenex/Coke of electric cars to a lot of young minds.

cassac··on Rivian announces 1B gross loss and 600M revenue [pdf]
I thought that until Tesla wrecked everyone.
cassac··on Social media is a cause, not a correlate, of mental illness in teen girls
Having absolute rules doesn’t mean having rebellious kids. I have an absolute rule to look both ways before crossing the street and nobody had ever rebelled against that.

But I 100% agree you do have to explain and you do have to eat your own dog food and try not to be too much of a hypocrite. They need to see you believe it yourself. And try not to lie with tall tales. I think every time a non life threatening absolute statement is proven false by experience they will lose trust.

I read or heard once that if you always told your child to put a coat on before they have actually experienced the cold they naturally don’t understand why they need it and will resist wearing one. But if you let them experience the cold and involve them in the thought process they will want to put a coat on. “Let’s see how it feels outside? Oooo it’s cold! What should we do?” Etc etc. I’ve tried to do that with most things (within reason and when applicable) and I think it gives them more confidence and understanding. Like the whole tell/show/include thing. The more experiences like this where you proved to be right the more they trust you even when the disagree.

cassac··on Social media is a cause, not a correlate, of mental illness in teen girls
Part of it is never letting them start early in the first place. Stay strong and don’t give in. The old saying “If they were your real friends they wouldn’t care…” is more true than it is cliche. Try to make them understand that.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
Can you provide some? None of those studies ever say “go to bed earlier and wake up earlier” they always say “shoulder shrug make things later”.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
Maybe groggy wasn’t right. I think what I meant is most people like to have a morning routine. Read the paper, read HN, have a bagel, things like that. If you plan to get up early and skip your morning routine you will be distracted. So when you get up early, get up early enough to include your morning routine. You can skip it but mentally you will feel it.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
But this study is asserting that the earliest 8am class, of a system that runs 8am to 4pm, has the worst performance.

It can’t say that a 9am class in a system of 9am to 5pm would have better performance at 9am, and it certainly can’t say that the system as a whole would have better performance. Maybe 5pm is too late and affects child care or dinner or night jobs and now students are distracted all over again.

cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
I think having to make an early morning class is part of the learning process. I don’t think they should cater to them at all and believe it would actually be a disservice to do so.

I’m also not trying to blame the students, but instead the enablers. The students aren’t being told to get up earlier, they are being told the classes are too early, which reinforces their bad attitude about it and is probably why they still show up late.

cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
You are right I can only try to infer information from them that’s not provided. I would infer there is a distribution of when people get up and the 8am classes have the largest set of people getting up nearest to the class start time. Some of the people get up very early and the other end is people up so late they miss the class. The later the class the more people are awake so the better the performance. I’m saying the data they do provide does not refute my take on it.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
Since most live on campus, at least in the US, I bet they can do that. I would love to see this sliced by commuter students because I bet they’d have it together.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
I am aware but I think that 8am is not early enough for that to be a major driver. I think it is as simple as insufficient planning and personal discipline.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
The problem is you don’t remove 8am classes, you reschedule them. And since prof time is a finite resource, they would now be at a new late time that could not actually be represented in the study. So is a new class later than the latest class better? I doubt it. I bet once you make 9am the earliest class now they will get up at 8:55 and be tired again.

It’s only hard to tell the new adult-children to go to bed earlier because they have lived their lives without ever being told to go to bed earlier.

I find HN, while progressive, is full of people who can’t function without their latte at 8am but enjoy living off the benefits of all the people that do have to get up early. Everyone at a coffee shop, people working 2nd and 3rd shifts, snow plow drivers, nurses, bus drivers, etc etc. A rule for me and a rule for thee I guess.

cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
You didn’t, but the study did talk about people skipping class, probably do to over sleeping.
cassac··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
This is only because people like to wake up at the last second and are still groggy during class. If you have an 8am class don’t get up at 7:55am, get up at 6:30am. You may like it less but you’ll be awake for class and you’ll do better. I don’t know at what point we decided these kids have to have everything done exactly optimal for them with no deviance to make their life harder but it explains a lot about how incapable they are when they do encounter hardships. You may now remove yourself from my lawn.

cassac··on The Twitter Files, Part Six
I think what people are concerned about is the selectiveness of the reports.

What if the FBI only happened to report violations by Asians. Or only violations by women?

I guess it would not be censorship, and I guess it would not be not illegal either, but it would make people wonder if there is an agenda.

It’s as much about the violations reported as the violations left unreported.
